Electric City Football Club Men's Team Concludes Season with 0-0 Draw
/The Electric City FC Men’s side wrapped up their inaugural season with a 0-0 draw against St. Catharines Roma Wolves at Fleming College on Saturday.

The team finished 10th in the league with an 8-7-6 record but failed to qualify for the playoffs. After registering a 3rd consecutive home draw. ECFC had rung off five consecutive home wins but went 0-1-4 in their last five home games.
ECFC controlled play and had the lion's share of chances but could not convert against St. Catharine’s goalkeeper Carson Provenzano.
ECFC defender Ben Vyfschaft said despite not making playoffs, there are many positives throughout the season.
“Obviously there was a lot of games where we did not get the result we wanted to,” he said. “I think we all know on the team that we play really well together. We just kind of had this roadblock of just finishing out games and closing out those three points, which really was the big reason why we did not get to be a part of that playoff push.”
Fellow Defender Zach Ellis-Hayden said the team could have gone farther with the team they had.
“It is a tough one to look back on,” he explained. “On the pitch I think we struggled at times to figure out how to click and so some results did not go our way. We had good moments but overall I think we have a great team of great players who hoped for and deserved a bit more.”
ECFC Head Coach Randy Ribeiro remarked on the opportunity to work with a group of great individuals each day throughout the season.
“I could not be more thankful to have had the opportunity to work with not only top players, but top people,” he said. “Guys that are aspiring to play at highest level they possibly can, showing up every day with good training habits. It made my job so difficult picking teams week to week but that is the best environment to be in as a coach.”
Things were not easy during their inaugural season but Ribeiro believes next year will be easier now that a platform has been made.
“The nice thing is that there is a foundation, we have got legs to stand on. There is something to build on here which I am really excited for and building something from the ground up is never easy and so I am so thankful to have that opportunity to be a part of Electric City in its inaugural year.”
Vyfschaft said that if the group stays together, they could be dangerous next season.
“It is our first season, I think we can build off of it and if we kind of work out those kinks and come back as the same group, I am positive that we can overcome that and have a strong season next year,” he said.

Peterborough Lakers Take 2-1 Series Lead With Back-To-Back Playoff Road Wins
/Back-to-back road wins gives Peterborough Century 21 Lakers a 2-1 Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) series lead as they beat the Six Nations Chiefs, 11-7 Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Sunday.

Both teams were evenly contested after the first period ended 4-4. The Lakers managed to squeeze a one-goal lead after the second. The team clamped down on both ends scoring four goals in the third while holding Six Nations to one goal to earn the road win.
Shawn Evans and Mark Matthews each had a pair of goals and assists to lead the Lakers. Lakers goaltender Doug Buchan made 34 saves for the win. Cody Jamieson led Six Nations with a pair of goals and one assist while Doug Jamieson made 33 saves.
Game four is on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Peterborough Lakers Fall in Game Two of MSL Final to Six Nations Chiefs in Overtime, 13-12
/The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers failed to hold a lead and fell to the Six Nations Chiefs in overtime 13-12 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday night.

With that loss, the Lakers and Chiefs are tied 1-1 in the series of the Major Series Lacrosse final.
The game was tied 5-5 after the first period. The Lakers rung off four straight goals in the second and carried a three-goal lead into the third, 10-7.
The Chiefs stuck with Lakers, scoring five goals to Peterborough’s two to send the game into overtime.
Six Nations’ Randy Staats scored both the tying goal, with 36 seconds left and the game-winning goal in overtime.
The Chiefs’ Cody Jamieson led all scorers with six goals and five assists. Warren Hill made 22 saves for Six Nations before giving Doug Jamieson the reigns, making 33 saves.
Thomas Hoggarth led the Lakers with a five-goal performance.
Game three is Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Ohsweken.

The War in Ennismore: Amateur Boxing Returns to The Kawarthas
/Corcoran’s Boxing Club is hosting its first-ever show as a fundraiser for the club’s youth program and competitive team on Saturday.

The War in Ennismore: Revival is held at the Robert E. Young Recreation Complex in Ennismore. The Ontario Boxing sanctioned event will feature 12 amateur fights from boxers across the province.
At least one women’s match will take place, as well as fights featuring boxers as young as eight years old. Corcoran’s Boxing Club features a youth program that is run in conjunction with the Ennismore Optimist Club.
Ennismore was chosen as the location to host the event due to multiple club members’ ties to the area. This includes Jay Corcoran, the club’s founder, who was born and raised there.
This is the first amateur boxing event in the Kawarthas since the start of the pandemic.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first fight at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 at the door.
Peterborough Lakers Streaming MSL Final Home Games On Youtube
/The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers will stream their remaining Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) Final home games via YouTube announced on Wednesday.

The streams are in partnership with MSL, YourTV and MNC Podcast Productions.
Games will be made available for no cost to viewers via the MSL’s YouTube page.
Peterborough’s own Stephen Stamp serve as the stream’s play-by-play announcer. Stamp is a veteran broadcaster and a two-time winner of the NLL’s Tom Borelli Award, given for outstanding achievement in lacrosse media.
Game two of the MSL finals between the Lakers and Six Nations Chiefs is Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. The Lakers lead the series 1-0 after a 10-6 win on Tuesday.

Peterborough Lakers Take 1-0 Series Lead in MSL Final Opener

Six Nations jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first period. The Lakers countered with their own run in the second, scoring five goals to Six Nations’ one. Peterborough kept their foot on the gas scoring another five while the home team only mustered two for a 10-6 final.
Cory Vitarelli, Joe Resetarits and Mitch Ogilvie each scored a pair of goals for the Lakers, while goaltender Doug Buchan made 46 saves for the win.
Game two is Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Inaugural Gary Dalliday Memorial Golf Tournament Raises Over $10,000 For Community Care Peterborough
/There were 99 golfers that participated in the inaugural Gary Dalliday Memorial charity golf tournament, raising over $10,000 in support of Community Care Peterborough at the Quarry Golf Club in Ennismore on Monday.
Tournament proceeds went towards Community Care’s support offices in Ennismore and Buckhorn.
“We only about 50 per cent of our funding from the Ontario Government so events like this and fundraising that we do are very important,” said Alicia Vandine, Community Care donor relations. “Our growth and our need for services as people are aging are getting bigger and bigger.”
Proceeds also went towards their Meals on Wheels program, a volunteer position Dalliday was often involved in. The program provided food to seniors living alone, adults with disabilities unable to cook or get groceries or recently discharged patients from hospitals. Dalliday often delivered meals on the organization’s behalf for the program.
A silent auction was held after the tournament and dinner’s conclusion with funds going towards the same cause. Items such as a Michael Bunting Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, a golf club, golf bag and Peterborough Petes Suite tickets were available for auction.
The tournament’s idea spawned from his grandson Nick who previously did a placement with Community Care. Eventually, Gary’s children Pete, Tim and Krista got onboard in making the event happen.
“It speaks to a cause he believed in and the fact that it is a local-based charity, this was one that was near and dear to his heart,” said Tim Dalliday. “It's a very worthy cause and I think he would be very proud of what we're doing today and raising some funds for Community Care.”
