Vinnie's Receives Cheque From Anonymous Donor After Weekend Catalytic Converter Thefts; Peterborough Police Still Investigating

After having $4,000 of catalytic converters stolen, Vinnie’s has received an anonymous donation to cover for the losses as Peterborough Police continue investigating.

Police were called to Vinnies on Monday and discovered the catalytic converters had been removed from two cube vans. Police believe the thefts occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Vinnie’s Facebook page released a statement regarding the donation:

“Thank you so much for your kind words and compassion - we are so grateful for this community. We wanted to let you know that we have received a generous anonymous donation that will help us cover the repairs/rentals. Thank you to all who offered to help us, we are very grateful!”

This was not the only catalytic converter theft that occurred over the weekend. About 15 were reported stolen during that time, valued at $15,000.

Police are continuing the investigation but no arrests have been reported.

Peterborough Police Investigating Weekend Catalytic Converter Thefts

Peterborough Police are investigating 15 catalytic converter thefts worth $15,000 that were reported over the weekend.

The catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles at several businesses in the Rye Street area, Kingsway and Erskine Avenue area. In two instances, a white SUV with two people in it was spotted entering the parking lots of the businesses. 

The thefts likely happened sometime in the early morning hours on Sunday according to the Police.

$200,000 of Equipment Stolen From Peterborough Construction Site

Peterborough Police are investigating a report roughly $200,000 in tools were stolen from a construction site Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, officers were made aware of a theft that had happened sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. The equipment had been taken from a locked container and several manholes at a construction site in the Lily Lake Road and Fairbairn Avenue area.

40-Year-Old Man Taken To Hospital After Falling Over Second-Floor Railing at Peterborough Square

A 40-year-old man was taken to a Toronto hospital after falling over a second-floor railing at Peterborough Square on Monday afternoon.

Just before 5:00 p.m, Peterborough Police were called to the mall in the George Street and Simcoe Street area after the man fell.

Polic determined that the incident is not considered criminal in nature.

40-Year-Old Man Taken Into Custody From Jackson's Park On Assault and Mischief Warrants

A 40-year-old man was taken into custody from Jackson’s Park after Peterborough Police Service received reports of a man in distress on Tuesday.

Police arrived at the park around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and discovered the man had a knife and a small blow torch. He was wanted on warrants for assault and mischief in connection with domestic-related incidents.

Two hours later, the Mobile Crisis Intervention Team was able to safely take the man into custody under the Mental Health Act and he was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

Peterborough Woman Facing Assault Charges; 15 Puppies Seized After Man Suffers Leg Stabbing At Nicholls Oval

Peterborough Police Service arrested a 46-year-old Peterborough woman with an assault with a weapon charge after an incident at Nicholls Oval on Thursday evening.

At roughly 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, officers received reports of a man at Nicholls Oval Park had been stabbed in the leg. Officers found the man and took two people into custody.

The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre and was released after being treated for minor injuries. Police also discovered 15 puppies in six crates at the site.  The animals were seized and in Animal Control’s care.

Officers located and seized a knife during a search, arrested and charged the 46-year-old Peterborough woman with ‘Assault with a Weapon.’

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 29. 

The second person taken into custody was released unconditionally.

Peterborough Police Recover Stolen Property From Vehicle

Two people have been arrested and charged with possession of stolen property on Monday.

The victim saw crystals for sale online. The incident occurred over the weekend when the victim’s vehicle was parked on an Arndon Avenue driveway.

Several messages between both parties to purchase the items. Arrangements were made in a parking lot in the area of Monaghan and Lansdowne Street.

Stolen items from the vehicle were a wallet with various ID and roughly $20. The suspects also possessed a suitcase that contained stolen various crystals and bracelets valued at $2,000.

On Monday just before 10 a.m., police located a male in a vehicle matching the description provided to the victim. Police approached the vehicle and observed a basket that contained various crystals and bracelets on the passenger seat.

The driver was arrested for possessing stolen property. Further police investigation determined the remaining stolen property was at a Chamberlain Street residence.

Later that day, police attended this residence and arrested a second person for possession of stolen property. The residence was secured pending a search warrant.

At 4:45 p.m., police searched the residence and seized crystals and bracelets were located.

Peterborough Police Seeking Information On Local Woman Who Suffered Fatal Injuries In Parking Lot Collision

Peterborough Police Service are seeking information regarding a 59-year-old Peterborough woman that died from injuries sustained in a McDonald’s parking lot collision (Chemong Road location) on Oct. 23.

The 59-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at a Toronto hospital over the weekend. She was taken to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre prior to being flown to Toronto in critical condition.

The collision took place around 8 a.m.

Peterborough Police is seeking information about locating 21-year-old Sabrina Blue Wilson who was reported missing on Wednesday.

She was last seen by family on Friday and has been known to visit Toronto or Ottawa. 

She is described as:

  • Green hair

  • Black hoodie

  • White shoes

  • Manual wheelchair

  • Brindle coloured dog

OPP Seeking Information on Missing 42-Year-Old Woman

Updated at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 25, 2022: Ontario Provincial Police - Central Region has confirmed Weaver’s whereabouts and is safe.

Ontario Provincial Police is looking for 42-year-old missing woman Lisa Weaver announced on Tuesday.

Lisa is described as:

  • 165 cm (5’5’)

  • Long brown hair, heavy build

  • Brown eyes

Weaver was last seen Monday on County Road 46 in the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen. She was wearing a blue t-shirt, orange safety jacket, black sweatpants and white running shoes according to the OPP.
