Two-Car Collision Results In Front Window Convenience Store Crash; 52-Year-Old Driver Charged with Failing to Stop at a Red Light

A two-car collision that resulted in a crash into a Circle K on a McDonnel Street and Aylmer Street intersection that occurred around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday as reported by Peterborough Police Service.

The collision resulted in one of the vehicles crashing into the Circle K’s storefront, damaging several windows. No serious injuries were reported during the accident however one person was taken to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre as a precaution.

A 52-year-old driver was charged with failing to stop for a red light as a result of the incident. 

Circle K at 235 McDonnell St. is temporarily closed as a result of the accident as Kawartha Glass cleans up the shards.

Police Arrest Two People In One of Largest Busts in Peterborough; Seize Over $1 Million Of Illicit Drugs

The Peterborough Police Drug Unit arrested a man and a woman after seizing over $1 million worth of illicit drugs, considered one of the city’s biggest busts in history announced at a press conference on Monday.

The Drug Unit, Emergency Response Team and Durham Regional Police Service executed search warrants at several locations in Peterborough and at a Durham Region residence on Wednesday.

“This seizure of illicit drugs is one of the largest in Peterborough Police Service history,” said Chief Stuart Betts of Peterborough Police Service. “This is an example of the proliferation of illicit and harmful substances that have infiltrated our community. While we are not unique in this regard, it is very concerning for me and I commend the work of our Drug Unit for their ongoing commitment to keeping our communities safe.”

Officers located and seized the following:

  • Seven kg (15.4 lbs) – Crystal Meth

  • Five kg (11 lbs) – Cocaine

  • ½ kg (1.1 lbs) – Crack Cocaine

  • 600 g (1.3 lbs) – Fentanyl

  • Three kg (6.6 lbs) – Xanax pills

  • 52 – Percocet pills

  • 34 – Hydro morph pills

  • $3,000 cash combined Canadian and US currency

  • Three vehicles

A man and a woman were arrested during the search. 

Both 54-year-old Jack Goneau and 37-year-old Regan Morrison of Peterborough was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Crystal Meth

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Fentanyl

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Hydromorphone

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Percocet

  • Possession of a Schedule IV Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Xanax

  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Both suspects were held in custody and appeared in court on Wednesday.

Peterborough Police Thank Two Pedestrians Discovering Drugs In Snow

Peterborough Police Service has thanked two residents informing them of discovering cocaine at a Maria Street footpath.

The pair made the report on Tuesday and officers arrived at the area to investigate.  One officer located a small quantity of cocaine in the snow but its amount was not released.

Peterborough Police Service RIDE Checked 495 Vehicles; Administered 11 ASDs

The Peterborough Police Service conducted a Festive RIDE check, there were 495 vehicles that were seen with 11 Approved Screen Devices (ASD) administered on New Year’s Eve (Saturday).

Police remind motorists to plan ahead. Anyone who has consumed alcohol or cannabis is urged not to drive.

Alternate solutions are to call or arrange a ride, stay overnight or contact a designated driver suggested by the police.

If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired, police ask that you call 9-1-1.

Peterborough Police Recover Stolen Vehicle Taken From Stewart Street

Peterborough Police Service has recovered a stolen truck from a Stewart Street driveway that was stolen sometime overnight on Boxing Day (Monday).

On Tuesday just before 8:30 p.m. police were dispatched to a business on Lansdowne Street East regarding a suspicious customer that left behind a bag full of various pieces of identification. Police were told two people were seen loading up a cart and left after noticing they were being watched.

One of them was currently in the store attempting to get her property back. Police approached the customer and asked for identification and received a fake name from the customer. They were arrested for obstructing officers and taken to a police vehicle in the parking lot.

Police received information that the customer had arrived in a truck that was currently parked alongside the building. It was the officers who learned it was taken from Stewart Street.

The customer was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. A police check revealed the accused had two outstanding warrants for her arrest for breach of probation and failure to attend court.

The accused was transported to the Peterborough Police station. During the booking process, several pieces of stolen identification were located. As a result, the accused is facing four additional possession of stolen property charges. The accused was held for bail hearing on Wednesday.

Peterborough Police Investigating Incident Resulting In Two Children With Serious Injuries Following Armour Road Collision

Two children have been transported to a Toronto hospital following a two-vehicle collision near Armour Road and Dufferin Street that occurred on Thursday evening as Peterborough Police continue to investigate.

The collision occurred at roughly 6 p.m. The Peterborough Police Service Traffic Reconstruction Unit was on scene Thursday night and the investigation is still pending. No charges have been laid at this point.

Good Samaritan Rewarded By Money After Turning In Large Sum of Lost Money To Peterborough Police

Peterborough Police have located the owner and returned a large sum of money left at a north-end business announced on Thursday.

The money was reported lost on Dec. 4.

“The rightful owner was confirmed and identified this week,” says Inspector Jamie Hartnett. “We were happy to return the money to him as it was a significant amount in the thousands.” 

As a reward to the Good Samaritan returning the money, the owner left them a monetary gift as a thank you.

Peterborough Police Service Seeking Whereabouts of Missing 15-Year-Old Girl

UPDATED: 1:04 p.m. 23/12/22 The missing 15-year-old has been found.

Peterborough Police Service is seeking information in locating a missing 15-year-old female Rahmya Cottrelle who has been reported missing as of Wednesday.

Cottrelle was last seen around the Aylmer and Murray Street area Wednesday. The police have stated that there is a concern for her well-being.

She is described as:

  • Female, Black

  • 5’3

  • Approximately 140 lbs.

  • Black shoulder-length hair in multiple small braids

  • Maroon hoodie with grey track pants

Peterborough Police Seeking Owner of Large Sum of Money Left At North End Business

Peterborough Police had a large sum of money turned in to them and are seeking the owner announced on Friday.

The money was found in a north-end business by a customer and turned in to the police on Sunday.
