37 Year-Old Lakefield Man Facing Impaired Charges From Monday Afternoon

A 37-year-old Lakefield man is facing several impaired charges after an incident Monday afternoon.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Police received reports of a possible suspended driver in Lakefield. An officer conducted a traffic stop in the Queen Street and Regent Street area. During the stop, the officer noticed signs of impairment and confirmed that the driver was suspended.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Fail to surrender insurance card (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

• Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was also issued a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 5.

Peterborough Police Not Seeking Other Suspects From Lakefield Murder; No More Additional Information to be Released

Peterborough Police Service are no longer seeking suspects in connection with the 60-year-old Lakefield man that was died last Friday.

At roughly 1:30 p.m. on Friday, officers were called to a residence in the Queen Street and Burnham Street area.

Police located the man with serious injuries, was transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre by EMS. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after and was pronounced deceased.

A 26-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with first degree murder.

“The Peterborough Police Service recognizes that the tragic events in Lakefield on Friday, November 10, 2023, may have shaken feelings of safety for residents,” as stated in a press release.

Since the case is before the courts, the Police is releasing no further details.

14-Year-Old Teen Facing Multiple Charges Including Assault, Possession of Weapon and Uttering Threats

A 14-year-old Peterborough teen is facing a number of charges after an incident Thursday morning.

At roughly 10:50 a.m., officers were called to a residence in the Milroy Drive and Rowberry Boulevard area. A verbal dispute had escalated, resulting in a woman allegedly being choked, verbally threatened and a knife brandished at her by the teen. A second woman was also allegedly verbally threatened.

Officers and K9 Gryphon made several attempts to take the teen into custody but he continued to be agitated and came at officers with a knife. As a result, an officer deployed their Conducted Energy Weapon and the male was taken into custody without further incident.

The 14-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:

• Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another Person

• Assault with A Weapon

• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

• Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm X2

The accused is held in custody and will appear in court on Friday.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Code, the name of a young person cannot be released.

Teen accused of calling in last week’s bomb threat at Peterborough Regional Health Centre

Police have arrested a teenage girl in connection with a bomb threat called into Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) last week.

At around 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 31, police report that PRHC received several threatening phone calls. According to police, one of those calls was a bomb threat.

Through investigation, police report officers determined the threat was not credible and was made by someone in another community.

Police state officers and hospital security also conducted a safety search of the building and cleared it several hours later.

On Nov. 4, London police arrested a London resident on behalf of Peterborough Police.

A 16-year-old female is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 27. 

Under the Youth Justice Code, her name cannot be released.

Handgun, fentanyl and cocaine seized from Peterborough home

Two people have been charged after police seized a loaded handgun, fentanyl and cocaine in a raid at a Park Street residence.

According to Peterborough Police, the Street Crime Unit was conducting an investigation into street-level drug trafficking from a Park Street address.

On Nov. 8, police state a search warrant was executed at a Peterborough home with help from the Emergency Response Team and canine unit.

Police report officers seized a loaded handgun, fentanyl, cocaine, prescription medication and Canadian currency.

As a result, two people were arrested.

A 41-year-old Peterborough man is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, carry concealed weapon, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

The man was held in custody and scheduled to appear in court Nov. 9.

A 35-year-old Peterborough man is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, and fail to comply with probation.

Three-Month Investigation Leads to Assault Charge for Etobicoke Man

A three-month investigation in Peterborough from July led to an assault charge against a 25-year-old Etobicoke man reported on Tuesday.

At roughly 11:50 p.m. on Nov. 26, officers with Investigative Services spotted a man wanted in connection with an assault reported to police on July 23. The victim was allegedly struck with an object and pepper sprayed. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident.  At the time of the incident, the victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old Etobicoke man was arrested and charged with:

• Aggravated Assault

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Nov. 7.

Peterborough Police Engaging in 'Prime Prevention Week' for 2023 From Nov. 5 - 11

The Peterborough Police Service is participating in Crime Prevention Week 2023, from Nov. 5 to 11 with ‘Awareness. Engagement. Prevention’ as this year’s theme.

“Crime prevention is an important part of community safety and a way everyone can participate in keeping their communities safe. It’s important that residents report crime or suspicious activity to police,” said Chief Stuart Bettes. “Through reports, whether it’s 9-1-1, the non-emergency line or online reporting portal, we can learn about the crime trends in our community and work toward proactive measures.  This way we can ensure that we have the right information to have the right people in the right place to do the right thing.”

The Peterborough Police Service Auxiliary Unit conducts several crime prevention audits for homes and businesses.

77-Year-Old Peterborough Woman Lost $6,000 From Grandparent Scam

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a report of a grandparent scam of $6,000.

A 77-year-old Peterborough woman who was scammed, contacted the police after the scammers asked for more money.  

The police are reminding residents that if they are approached by someone they don’t know making claims about money being required because their grandchild is in jail or needs help with court proceedings, please do not believe them at face value. Take the time to verify the story by calling your family members or speaking to a trusted friend.  There is no urgency to respond in the moment.

Peterborough Man Arrested With Possession of Child Pornography

A 30-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography following an investigation.

The Peterborough Police Service Criminal Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at a west-end residence where various electronics were located and seized from Sept. 20.

Peterborough Man Facing Several Charges Including Assault After Trying to Enter Residence Without Consent

A 28-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including assault, possession of a weapon and more after an incident early Sunday morning.

At roughly 2:10 a.m., officers were called to a Park Street and Lansdowne Street area residence and learned that a man was allegedly trying to gain access without consent. When he wasn’t allowed in, he slashed at the male victim and struck his shoulder.  The suspect then slashed the tires on the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the area.  The 65-year-old victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment. 

Officers determined the suspect may be returning to their residence in the area Highway 7 and Drummond Line. They spotted the suspect walking on the road and instructed him to stop however the suspect fled.  Police Service Dog Isaac was deployed and the man was apprehended. 

A 28-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault causing bodily harm

• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

• Mischief under $5000

• Fail to comply with probation

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. 

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday.
