Two Youth Facing Car Theft Charges Near Highway 7A and 115

Two youth are facing several charges including car theft after an incident Wednesday morning.

At aroughly 10:30 a.m., officers were called to a wooded area near Highway 7a and Highway 115 about an abandoned vehicle that had been reported stolen the day before. Officers learned that the suspects had fled on foot.  K9 Gryphon was deployed and conducted a track for just over a kilometre while officers conducted a ground search. The two boys were located on a nearby farm property and were taken into custody without incident.

A 12-year-old Oshawa male was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

  • Possession of Property obtained by crime – over $5000

  • Fail to Comply with Release Order X2

The accused is currently bound by a release order with the following conditions to remain in his residence at all times and not to operate or have care and control of a motor vehicle.

The accused appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody.  He appears in court on Thursday.

A 16-year-old Pickering male was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 - in Canada

  • Fail to Comply with Sentence

The accused is currently bound by a youth probation order with the following condition to not possess any weapons.

The accused was released on an undertaking and will appear in court Dec. 18.

Keswick Woman Charged With Aiding Suicide of a 73-Year-Old Woman

After a six-month long investigation, a 76-year-old Keswick woman has been charged with aiding suicide to the death of a 73-year-old woman in May of last year.

On Tuesday, officers with the Criminal Investigations Unit arrested Margaret Murphy in connection with the death. Police say the two women were known to each other. It was also learned that during the initial death investigation, the suspect provided false information to police.

Margaret Murphy of Keswick has been charged with:

  • Aiding Suicide

  • Obstruct Police

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 16.

Peterborough Man Charged With Striking Another Man With Knife During Altercation

A 19-year-old Peterborough man is facing an assault charge after an incident on Monday evening.

At roughly 5:45 p.m., officers received a call about an altercation at a residence. A verbal dispute had escalated between two men and the victim was hit with a knife several times. The latter was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre to treat minor injuries. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The man was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault with a weapon - Adult

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 2.

Two Peterborough Officers Suffer Minor Injuries In Three-Vehicle Collision; Peterborough Man Given Multiple Charges

Two officers were injured in a three-vehicle collision while a 30-year-old Peterborough man is facing numerous charges from Sunday evening.

At roughly 6:20 p.m., police received a call about a vehicle being driven erratically — including into oncoming traffic — before it entered a parking lot just north of Water Street and University Heights Boulevard. 

An officer located the vehicle in question in the parking lot and was approaching it when the vehicle collided with the police cruiser and continued driving. A second officer with lights and sirens on was on Water Street attempting to stop the vehicle when it collided with a second police cruiser. The first officer was able to get in front of the vehicle again when the driver stopped and fled on foot.

Both officers received minor injuries but were able to get out of their vehicles. One climbed out the passenger side because of the damage. They chased the suspect a short distance away and took him into custody.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, and officers seized:

  • 5.9 grams of cocaine

  • 5.8 grams of fentanyl

  • 70 oxycodone pills

  • Canadian Currency

  • Drug Paraphernalia

During the arrest, officers also noticed signs of impairment with the driver.   

The suspect was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - drugs

  • Dangerous operation

  • Flight from peace officer 

  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000

  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- oxycodone

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-fentanyl

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

  • Driving while under suspension - while suspended

Police also learned that the driver was a suspended driver and was issued a 45-day vehicle impoundment. 

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Monday.

Two Suspects Being Sought From Street-Level Robbery By Peterborough Police

At roughly 12:20 a.m., officers were called to the Chemong Road and Wolsely Street area.The victim had been walking in the area when he was approached by two men who demanded he hand over any valuables. When the victim refused, the men punched him and stole a necklace he was wearing before fleeing the area.  The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment. A K9 was called in to try a track in the area but the suspects were not located.

The suspects were described to police as:

Suspect #1:

  • White male

  • About 30 years old

  • Wearing a red sweater and a black hat with “RCV” on it

Suspect #2:

  • White male

  • About 50 years old

  • Wearing all black clothing

Suspect Sought For Attempted Robbery of Downtown Business

At roughly 3:15 p.m., officers were called to a business in the Charlotte Street and George Street area. Officers learned that a woman had entered the store and started grabbing items before fleeing. The business owner chased the woman out to the street and attempted to grab the items when the suspect pushed her to the ground and stomped on her glasses before fleeing westbound on Charlotte Street. The business owner did not require medical attention and the stolen property was retrieved.  Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect was described to police as:

  • White female in her 20s

  • Average build

  • Dirty blonde hair

  • Glasses

  • Open coat

  • Sparkly pink gym bag

  • Light coloured toque

41-Year-Old Peterborough Man Charged With Robbery and Damaging a Boiler Room

A 41-year-old Peterborough man is facing a robbery and mischief charge from an incident Tuesday evening.

At roughly 8:45 p.m., officers were called to the Reid Street and Brock Street area about an unwanted male in a secure building. Officers learned the boiler room of the building had been damaged and that the suspect had forced his way into an apartment, pushed the tenant to ground and took off with some items. 

Officers located a man matching the description given to police in the Hunter Street and Downie Street area. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery with Violence

  • Mischief Over $5000

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Wednesday.

Peterborough Police Investigating Several Break-and-Enter Incidents Throughout the Weekend

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating several break-and-enter incidents throughout the City of Peterborough over the weekend.

Two incidents happened at a Bensfort Road and Riverview Heights area residence between 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Police believe that the suspects smashed a door to get inside, ransacked several rooms and a second apartment before fleeing with jewellery. 

Another incident occurred between 6 p.m. on Saturday and 5 a.m. on Sunday, in the Dainton Drive and Chapel Road area. A garage was broken into and a bicycle was stolen. A different bike was left in the driveway. 

On Monday, officers were called to a break and enter to an apartment in the Goodfellow Road and Sherbrooke Street area. Officers learned upon arrival that someone had entered the apartment between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. and left with several items including a television and a computer.

26-Year-Old Peterborough Man Facing Several Assault Charges On a Woman

A 26-year-old Peterborough man is facing several domestic-related charges after several incidents were reported to police.

On Friday, officers were made aware of a numbers of incidents between a couple over the course of several months where the female reported being sexually assaulted, slapped, choked, kicked and that the man was threatening to distribute personal photos of the woman. She also indicated the male had a gun in his vehicle. 

At roughly 7:30 p.m., officers attended a residence in the Brealey Drive and Stenson Boulevard area when the suspect pulled into the parking lot. Since there was a firearm possibility, a high-risk takedown was conducted including K9 Gryphon to prevent escape according to a police report. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and a replica gun and ammunition were located and seized from the vehicle. 

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Sexual Assault

  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm - Choke, suffocate or strangle 

  • Assault - Spousal x4

  • Extortion

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Saturday.

Trent Lakes Man Arrested and Charged With Child Luring

A 27-year-old Trent Lakes man was arrested and charged in an online investigation with child luring.

On Tuesday, the Peterborough Police Service Criminal Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at a Trent Lakes residence and took the suspect into custody.

He was arrested and charged with:

  • Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by means of Telecommunication

  • Make Sexually Explicit Material available to a Person Under 16 years of age

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
