Peterborough Police Arrest Suspect From Monday Night Stabbing Incident

Ethan Moxham, a 33-year-old Peterborough man, faces several charges in connection with a stabbing Monday evening.

The incident has caused an increased police presence at the train tracks between George Street and Aylmer Street. Police believe the incident occurred around 7 p.m.

One person was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A second person has been taken into custody.

Moxham has been arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

He is currently bound by a probation order stemming from a break and enter and fail to comply with probation conviction in August 2023.  The probation order has the following condition: to not possess any weapon(s) as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Tuesday.

A stabbing incident has caused an increased police presence as officers investigate the train tracks between George Street and Aylmer Street which happened at roughly 7 p.m. on Monday.

Peterborough Man Walking Through Neighbourhood With Long Gun Arrested

A 26-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident while carrying a pellet gun late Thursday night.

At roughly 11:50 p.m., Peterborough Police received reports of a suspicious person in the Herbert Street and St. Paul’s Street area. A man with a long gun was seen walking in the neighbourhood and it seemed that there was a dispute between two people.

The Emergency Response Team attended a residence and a man matching the description given to police was taken into custody.  Officers seized two pellet rifles, two swords and a dagger. 

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of imitation weapon for Dangerous Purpose

  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

  • Breach of Recognizance x2

The accused is currently bound by a recognizance with the following condition: to not possess any weapon as defined by the Criminal Code. 

He is being held in custody and will appear in court today on Friday.

Peterborough Man Charged With Assault After Allegedly Striking Their Partner In Several Incidents

A 30-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an intimate partner violence incident reported Wednesday.

Officers learned of several incidents that had happened over the past week involving the victim and the suspect on Monday. 

A 30-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault - Spousal x2

  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm - Choke, suffocate or strangle

  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court x2

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x6

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and not to contact or communicate with the victim.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

The name of the accused is not being released to protect the victim's identity.

Suspects Sought After Police Discover Man Assaulted With a Hammer

Peterborough Police Service’s Investigative Services Unit officers are searching for suspects after an assault last Saturday morning.

Officers were notified about a man taken to the hospital after he had been assaulted with a hammer on Saturday afternoon. The victim was taken to a Toronto-area hospital by helicopter for treatment.

Police believe the incident occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the Reid Street and Simcoe Street area. They also believe it was not an isolated incident.

Three Charged With Manslaughter; One Other Charged With Assault After Altercation Leads to Death of Peterborough Man

Three men are facing manslaughter charges, with another facing aggravated assault, after an incident involving the death of a 41-year-old Peterborough man over the May long weekend.

At roughly 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, Peterborough Police located a man with no vital signs in the Brock Street and George Street North area. They learned that there had been a verbal argument that escalated to a physical altercation between the victim and a larger group.

The victim was taken to the hospital and was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries on Monday.

Four suspects were identified as a result of the Peterborough Police’s investigation. They believe the parties had ongoing interactions throughout the evening but had no relation prior to the incident.

“At this point, there are no suspects outstanding in the investigation and there are no known risks to public safety,” said Detective Sergeant Josh McGrath. “This was a targeted incident that unfortunately escalated into a deadly interaction.”

One suspect was located by detectives around 1 a.m. on Monday and taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, 26-year-old Matthew Janssen-Supernault was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Monday.

Detectives arrested two more suspects on Tuesday.

24-year-old Dylan Moffatt was charged with:

  • Manslaughter

35-year-old Matthew Smith was charged with:

  • Manslaughter

Moffant and Smith are being held in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.

24-year-old Noah Stetski, turned himself in to police on Tuesday. He was arrested and charged with:

  • Manslaughter

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today on Wednesday.

Peterborough Man Arrested For Pointing Phone At a Woman In a Changeroom

A 20-year-old Peterborough man is facing a voyeurism charge after pointing a phone at a woman who was in a changeroom on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to an outer store at Lansdowne Place Mall at roughly 1 p.m. While a woman was in a changeroom, she noticed a phone coming over the top. Security was called, and the man was held until police arrived and took him into custody.

During a search after the arrest, officers seized a cellphone.

As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with voyeurism.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on June 24.

Peterborough Police Warn Public of Surfacing Scam Claiming to Stop Hackers

The Peterborough Police Service is issuing a warning after two reports of fraud involving a request for help to stop hackers.

The incidents happened in the last three weeks in the City of Peterborough. In each case, the victim was approached by someone claiming to be connected to Microsoft or Bell Canada and that they needed the victim’s help in stopping hackers from accessing the victim's computer or bank accounts.

The scammers claim urgency to the matter and the victim needs to get money out of their bank as soon as possible so an ‘agent’ can come to their house to pick up the cash. Between the two incidents, about $25,000 was lost.

The man who picked up the money in both cases was described to police as:

  • Male, Asian

  • Approximately 5’6 -5’7

  • Between 20 and 30 years old

  • Dark Hair

  • Clean cut

  • Well dressed

Peterborough Police Seeking Suspects Involved In Series of Distraction Thefts

Officers with the Peterborough Police Service are investigating after several reports of a distraction theft in the past week.

At roughly 11 a.m. on Saturday, an 86-year-old man was approached by a vehicle in the Clonsilla Avenue and Ford Street area. The victim thought they were asking for directions. However, the driver put a fake gold ring in his hand. When the victim then bent down to speak to the female passenger, she grabbed his face and put a heavy gold chain around his neck while seeming to be praying for his well-being.  Later that night, the victim noticed that his gold necklace was gone.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Monday, an 86-year-old man was approached by a vehicle while walking in the Stewart Street and Rubidge Street area. While speaking to the female passenger, it’s believed his necklace was exchanged for a fake one.

At approximately 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, a 66-year-old woman was approached by a vehicle in a parking lot in the Clonsilla Avenue and Goodfellow Road area. While speaking to the female passenger, the victim said her gold chain was exchanged for a fake gold chain.

In each instance, it was reported that there was a male driver, a female passenger, and one or two children in the back seat. The adults had accents and were in their 40s.

Peterborough Teen Charged With Robbery at Brock Street FreshCo.

An 18-year-old Peterborough male is facing multiple charges including a robbery at a Brock Street FreshCo on Wednesday afternoon.

At roughly 1:15 p.m., a robbery was in progress at the grocery store where a Loss Prevention Officer and the store owner had been injured after a confrontation with a male. Both victims were taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  

Officers searched the area and located a male matching the description given to police a few blocks away. He was taken into custody and had an article search conducted by Emergency Response Team officers and K9 Gryphon. A knife was located and seized along with some other items.

The teen was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery with violence x2

  • Failure to comply with youth sentence order x2

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Thursday.
