Two Peterborough Men Arrested For Choking Their Partners In Separate Incidents

Two Peterborough men are being held in custody on separate Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) incidents involving choking their respective partners on Monday.

At roughly 7 p.m., officers were called about a choking incident. Upon speaking with the victim, they learned that the incident had happened the evening before and that she had been choked and verbally threatened.

A 27-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault Cause Bodily Harm - Choke, suffocate or strangle

• Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm-Spousal

At approximately 7:15 p.m., officers conducted a well-being check and learned that an assault had occurred in which a woman was struck and choked. The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

A 40-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Choke, Suffocate, Strangle

• Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused is currently bound by a release order to stay away from the victim.

Both accused appeared in court on Tuesday.

55-Year-Old Man Facing Drug Possession Charges After Search Warrant Executed At Local Residence

A 55-year-old Peterborough man is facing several drug possession charges after a search warrant was executed at a residence in Peterborough.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, officers with the Drug Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence in the Sherbrooke Street and Medical Drive. 

Officers seized:

• 4 grams of Fentanyl

• 12.7 grams of Crack Cocaine

• 85 Dilaudid pills

• Small amount of Canadian Currency

As a result of the search, a 55-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Traffick in Schedule I Substance - Cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Fentanyl

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Dilaudid

• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Friday.

Peterborough Man Faces Manslaughter Charge In 2024 Drug Overdose Death

On Mar. 10, 2024, the Peterborough Police Service attended a residence in the Talwood Drive and Goodfellow Road area in response to a 53-year-old Peterborough man found without vital signs.

The death was determined to be the result of a drug overdose.

On Jan. 28, 2026, detectives with Investigative Services located, arrested and charged 70-year-old Donald Wayne Golloher of Peterborough with:

• Manslaughter

• Traffick in Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl

• Traffick in Schedule I Substance - Cocaine x3

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Hydromorphone

• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

During a search of the accused after arrest, officers seized:

• Hydromorphone pills

• Canadian Currency

“These are important investigations undertaken by the Peterborough Police Service. Every overdose death that occurs in our community is investigated by our Officers to assess whether there is any evidence of criminality,” said Peterborough Police Chief Stuart Betts. “When sufficient grounds exist to believe an individual is culpable in an overdose death, our Investigators will seek justice for the victim and their families by brining those we believe responsible before the courts.”

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Thursday.

Peterborough Police Lay 19 Charges Against Local Man After Multiple Theft Incidents

A 28-year-old Peterborough man appeared in court for the second time last week after multiple theft incidents over several days at a local business.

At approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, officers from the Community F.I.R.S.T Unit located a man matching the description given to police after reports of several thefts from a local business earlier that day. 

As a result, a 28-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Fail to Comply with Probation Order x6

• Theft under $5,000 x3

Between Jan. 18 and Jan. 22, officers responded to nine calls for service in connection with this individual and have laid 19 charges.

The accused is currently bound by two probation orders to not attend the business and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was remanded into custody and will appear in court Monday.

Peterborough Man Wanted On Existing Warrant Faces New Theft Charges

A 33-year-old Peterborough man wanted on a warrant is facing new charges in connection with a theft Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers on general patrol spotted a man on a bicycle that failed to stop at a stop sign in the Stewart Street and Dalhousie Street area. Officers conducted a traffic stop and further learned the man was wanted on a warrant, and in connection with a theft earlier that afternoon.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and further charged with:

• Theft Under $5,000

• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada

• Disobey stop sign - fail to stop (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Monday.

Peterborough Police Seize Drugs and Loaded Firearm During Traffic Stop

A 28-year-old St. Catharines man is facing 10 Criminal Code charges and 4 Highway Traffic Act charges after drugs and a loaded firearm were seized during a traffic stop in Peterborough Thursday evening.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Jan. 22, officers on general patrol in the O’Carroll Avenue and Aylmer Street area spotted a vehicle that failed to stop properly at two stop signs. Officers conducted a traffic stop and learned that the driver was suspended. The driver was taken into custody.

During a search of the vehicle after arrest officers located and seized:

• Loaded Handgun

• 349.5 grams of Cocaine

• 22.1 grams of Crack Cocaine

• 7.3 grams of Fentanyl

• Drug paraphernalia

• Cell phones

• Canadian currency

• Cannabis paraphernalia

As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old St. Catharines man was arrested and charged with:

• Unauthorized Possession Of A Firearm

• Unauthorized Possession Of A Prohibited Or Restricted Firearm

• Knowledge Of Unauthorized Possession Of Firearm

• Occupant Of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was Firearm

• Possession Of Loaded Prohibited Or Restricted Firearm

• Possession Of A Schedule I Substance For The Purpose Of Trafficking – Cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs (Fentanyl)

• Possession Of A Schedule I Substance For The Purpose Of Trafficking - Crack-Cocaine

• Possession Of Proceeds Of Property Obtained By Crime Under $5000 - In Canada

• Failure To Comply With Undertaking

• Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)

• Disobey stop sign - stop wrong place (Highway Traffic Act)

• Disobey stop sign - fail to stop (Highway Traffic Act)

• Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available (Cannabis Control Act)

The accused is currently bound by an undertaking with the following condition: to not posses any firearm, crossbow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device, firearm part, ammunition, prohibited ammunition or explosive substance.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Friday.

Peterborough Police Service Launches N0H8 Awareness Campaign To Combat Hate Crimes

The Peterborough Police Service has launched the N0H8 public education and awareness campaign; which aims to reignite awareness about hate bias and hate crimes, how people can report such incidents and the role of law enforcement.

This campaign serves as a commitment made by the Peterborough Police Service to address hate through the support of the Proceeds of Crime Grant. Additional commitments included training made available to sworn and civilian members of the Peterborough Police Service and the development of an online visual tool that will help give more understanding to what hate looks like in the community.

Throughout the work funded by the grant, the Peterborough Police Service has connected with a group of community partners to help understand the needs and landscape of hate/bias in the community. 

The goals of the campaign are to:

• Raise awareness about what hate and/or hate incidents may look like in our community

• Promote personal stories of courage and acceptance

• Provide access to educational resources and community supports

• Encourage more residents to report hate incidents through the Peterborough Police Service online reporting portal

“We are happy to be able to bring this N0H8 campaign to life in our community. Over the past five years, on average, 46 hate/bias incidents are reported to our service,” said Peterborough Police Chief Stuart Betts. “In 2024, more than half of those incidents resulted in charges. We are also aware that these types of incidents are underreported and that is why we are reaching out to the community to encourage more people to report. This may result in a spike of hate-motivated incidents/crimes being reported, which is to be expected with a campaign of this nature.”

A website has been created that offers information about resources, provides a definition of what a hate/bias crime or incident is and a direct link to the hate bias crimes/incidents online reporting form.

The Peterborough Police Service is encouraging residents, businesses and schools to participate in spreading the message of N0H8.

47-Year-Old Peterborough Man Facing Impaired Driving Charge After Traffic Stop

A 47-year-old man is facing an impaired driving charge after Peterborough Police conducted a traffic stop Monday night.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. on Jan. 19, an officer on general patrol in the Sherbrooke Street and Clonsilla Avenue area spotted a vehicle speeding despite the snowy conditions. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the Sherbrooke Street and Goodfellow Road area. During the stop, the officer noticed signs of impairment with the driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Entire plate not plainly visible (Highway Traffic Act) (Plate Cover)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment. 

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 24.

51-Year-Old Peterborough Man Facing Impaired Driving Charges After Vehicle Found Stuck In Snowbank

A 51-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired driving charges after his vehicle was found stuck in a snowbank Saturday night.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, a call came in about a vehicle stuck in an snowbank at Parkhill Road West and Aylmer Street. Officers on general patrol also spotted the vehicle and stopped to assist the driver who was trying to shovel out.  During discussions with the driver, the officers noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 24.

27-Year-Old Peterborough Man Arrested After Multiple Residential Break and Enter Incidents

A 27-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges in connection with three residential break and enter incidents.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to a residence in the Monaghan Road and Bolivar Street area after it was reported a man had entered a home while the family was eating dinner. The man reportedly fled when confronted by the homeowner. Officers attended the area and located a man matching the description given to police. 

Through investigation it was further learned that the man had broken into the same home on Saturday.

A third break and enter was also identified as connected to the suspect. This incident happened in the early morning hours of Wednesday, in the Maria Street and Rogers Street area. 

No one was injured in any of these incidents.

As a result, a 27-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence X3

• Mischief – destroys or damages property

• Use of Credit Card

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Fentanyl

• Fail to Comply with Probation Order X3

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Thursday.
