Two Teenage Girls Charged With Assault After Spraying Store Employee With Air Freshener

Two 16-year-old Peterborough girls are facing an assault charge against a store employee in the north end after an incident on Sunday afternoon.

At roughly 3:10 p.m., Community F.I.R.S.T officers were called to a business in the Marina Boulevard and Hilliard Street area after an employee was assaulted. Officers learned that an employee at a store had been allegedly sprayed in the face with an air freshener. Officers started searching the area and spotted two girls matching the description given to the police walking on a nearby trail. When the girls saw the officers, they started running away. The officers caught up with them and took them into custody.

As a result of the investigation:

Two 16-year-old Peterborough girls were arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon

Both accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear in court on May 25.

Peterborough Police Warn Community of Grandparent Scam

The Peterborough Police Service have issued a warning after a report of a Grandparent scam in the community.

On April 7 and April 8 an 83-year-old Peterborough resident received a call from someone impersonating a police officer from another police service stating that a family member was in trouble. The victim was coerced into paying over $5,000.

On both days, the money was picked up from the victim’s residence by a man described as:

  • white male

  • 5’10”

  • late 20's to early 30's

  • medium build

  • short dark hair, clean shaven

  • wearing an overcoat and a purple and grey scarf

Anyone can fall victim to a fraud or scam. The Peterborough Police Service is committed to ensuring residents are aware of the scams and frauds that are happening in our community.  It is important to report incidents to your local police service and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Law enforcement agencies will never ask you for money

  • If you are approached for money or crypto currency through unsolicited phone calls, emails or text messages do not engage

  • Call a trusted family member or a friend to talk about what is going on

  • Resist the urgency for action

Citizens Encouraged to Report Graffiti Throughout the City of Peterborough's Public Spaces

Residents and business owners are encouraged to report graffiti in public spaces throughout the City of Peterborough.

City departments, including Public Works and Recreation, Parks and Culture Services, work together to address graffiti through inspections, environmentally responsible removal and cleanup of affected public spaces and infrastructure. 

Reporting supports a consistent, proactive approach to managing graffiti, emphasizing timely removal, clear reporting processes, and collaboration across City departments. 

Graffiti can be reported using the City’s Service Request form. Select “Graffiti/Vandalism” to submit a report. 

Graffiti can also be reported directly to the following departments:

For graffiti on roads, sidewalks, and other municipal infrastructure:  

Recreation, Parks and Culture Services

For graffiti in parks, on trails, and at recreation or cultural facilities:

Graffiti is considered mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada and is a criminal offence when created without permission. 

All graffiti should also be reported to the Peterborough Police Service. This includes any that may be hate-motivated or involve threats.

If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to public safety, call 911. 

Providing photos and as much detail as possible can help support the investigation.

Peterborough Man Arrested On Multiple Sexual Crimes Involving Minors

A 32-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after an investigation by the Peterborough Police Service Sex Offence Unit.

Officers were made aware of incidents involving minors that occurred between September 2021 and March 2026. Investigators with the Unit conducted a search warrant at a residence on Aylmer Street and seized several electronic devices on Wednesday.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Sexual Assault X2

  • Sexual Interference X2

  • Voyeurism

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Thursday.

Woman Charged With Theft, Uttering Threats and Violated Trespass Order In Multiple Incidents

A 32-year-old woman is facing charges including theft, uttering threats and violating a Trespass Order after several incidents in Peterborough on Tuesday.

At roughly 9 a.m., officers were called to a business in the Simcoe Street and George Street area about an unwanted person. They learned that a woman who was on a Trespass Order to not be in the building had initially refused to move and had verbally threatened a security guard before leaving the area.  

At approximately 3 p.m. on the same day, officers were called to a business in the Charlotte Street and Aylmer Street area about a theft in progress. They learned that the woman had left the store. They searched the area and located a woman matching the description given to police in the King Street and Aylmer Street area.  She was taken into custody.  During a search after the arrest, officers located the items taken from the store and returned them. While in custody in the police cruiser, the woman continually spat in the vehicle and verbally threatened the officer. 

The woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm X2

  • Theft Under $5,000

  • Failure to comply with an Undertaking

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.

Three Teens Arrested For Assault And Uttering Hate-Motivated Remarks; Police Seeking One More Teen

Three Peterborough teenagers are facing charges and a fourth is wanted by Peterborough Police after an incident involving assault and uttering hate-motivated remarks on Wednesday afternoon.

At roughly 12:20 p.m., officers were called to the area of Hilliard Street and Marina Boulevard. They learned that the victim had confronted one of the teens for dropping a parking sign on her vehicle. Three more teenagers, including one wearing a mask, came out of a nearby residence and surrounded the victim and started striking her, verbally threatening her and making hate-motivated remarks. Officers located three of the teens and identified a fourth who had fled the area. The victim attended Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

A 15-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault

  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on May 11.

An 18-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault

The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on June 23.

An 18-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault

The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on June 23.

A 13-year-old Peterborough male is wanted in connection with the incident for assault and disguise with intent. This is the same individual arrested in connection with several incidents on March 24. 

As there is a hate crime element to this case, it will be addressed as the case moves through the court process.

Two People Arrested and Charged After Traffic Stop

Two people were charged after a traffic stop on Tuesday evening.

At roughly 5:30 p.m., general patrol officers spotted a vehicle in the area of Victoria Avenue and Reid Street. Officers noticed the passenger as having several warrants for her arrest on charges of robbery with violence, theft under $5,000, failure to comply with probation (x2) and failure to comply with an undertaking.  They conducted a traffic stop and took her into custody. During a search after arrest, officers seized 0.9 grams of Fentanyl.

A 24-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested on the strength of the warrants and further charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (Fentanyl)

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.

The 52-year-old driver was found to be a suspended driver and charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Cavan-Monaghan Women Faces Stunt Driving Charge After Going 96 km/h In 50 Zone

A 44-year-old Cavan-Monaghan woman is facing a stunt driving charge after going 96km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone on Lily Lake Road on Sunday afternoon.

At roughly 4:15pm, a traffic officer on general patrol recorded the vehicle going 46km/hr over the limit.

The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Stunt Driving

Their driver’s license was suspended for 30 days and vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Two People Face Graffiti Charges After Spray Painting a Building, Streetlights and Electrical Boxes

Two Peterborough residents are facing charges after several reports of graffiti being spray-painted on a building, streetlight poles and electrical boxes on Friday evening.

At roughly 10 p.m., officers were called to the Safe Consumption Site regarding a man and a woman spray-painting on the building. Officers located two people matching the description given to police and took them into custody.  During a search after arrest, officers seized four cans of spray paint and a knife. While investigating this incident, officers were made aware of a reported incident involving people of the same description who were spray-painting street light poles and electrical boxes in the Sherbrooke Street and Bethune Street area.

A 35-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon

  • Mischief Over $5,000

  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

A 32-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief Over $5,000

  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

Both accused were held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday court on Saturday.

At this time, Police state that there is nothing to indicate these incidents are connected to the graffiti written on a fence in the west end of Peterborough on March 20.

Go Bus Driver Charged With Careless Driving After Collision

A GO Bus driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Careless Driving after a collision with a vehicle that occurred on Thursday night.

The collision happened around 9:55 p.m. at the intersection of High Street and Lansdowne Street.

There were about 20 passengers on the bus and a driver in the second vehicle. 

No injuries were reported.
