An Inspiring List Of Individuals Speaking At 2013 Peterborough Speakers Series Event

Shannon McNevan, director of the wildly popular Boots and Hearts Festival, is just one of seven dynamic individuals who will share their stories and reveal how they beat the odds to achieve success during the annual Peterborough Speakers Series event at Market Hall, April 10, 2013.

Presented by the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation, “UNSTOPPABLE” also features Olympic Silver Medalist Ashley Brzozowicz, Peterborough Lakers president Ted Higgins, mystery writer John Moss, comedic actor of television and theater Derek McGrath, Trent University professor and expert in economics Dr. Tom Phillips, and dynamic motivational speaking duo Barbara and Bill Johnston.

"The Peterborough Speakers Series shines a spotlight on some of our community's most dynamic and innovative people," says Health Services Foundation executive director Hannah Routly. "We’re excited to present their remarkable contributions of personal and professional success."

Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and speakers begin at 7:00 p.m. An intimate cocktail reception follows, offering attendees an opportunity to connect and chat with the speakers in a relaxed and casual setting.

Man Stabbed Multiple Times In Assault On Park Street

From a Peterborough Lakefield Police release today...

Aggravated Assault Arrest:

On Saturday (Feb. 9), 2013 just after 7:30 p.m. police were alerted by citizens of a male victim who had collapsed on the roadway in front of 196 Park Street North. Investigation revealed that the man had been stabbed multiple times in the torso area following a disturbance with a second male that originated at 196 Park Street North. The 50 year old victim was transported to PRHC with non life threatening injuries and remains in hospital in stable condition.  On Sunday (Feb. 10), 2013, the person responsible for this stabbing attended the police station and was arrested.  Both the victim and accused are known to each other and neither resides at 196 Park Street.  Charged with aggravated assault is Cory Andrew Manbeck, 30, of Peterborough.  He was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Feb. 11), 2013.

Man Smashed In Head With Glass Bottle By Two Assailants In Washroom Of Downtown Bar

From a Peterborough Lakefield police release today...

Assault with a Weapon Arrest

On February 9, 2013 at approximately 1:30 am, the victim was at a downtown bar and entered the washroom just prior to leaving.  While in the washroom the victim was struck in the head with a glass bottle by an unknown male.  A second male also hit the victim with a bottle.  The victim was able to notify security of the incident.  Security observed two males leave the washroom shortly after the incident and then leave the bar.  Security contacted police and followed the males on George Street.  The two suspects became aware that they were being followed by security and ran in opposite directions.  Police with the assistance of security arrested one of the males. 

As a result of the investigation Darren Beadle, 35 years of Oshawa was charged with assault with a weapon.  Beadle was held in custody for court on February 9, 2013. 

The victim sustained a large laceration to his head and was kept at PRHC for precautionary reasons. 

Anyone with information on the identity of the second suspect or the incident is asked to call the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service at 705-876-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
