Andrew McArthur and his partner Jaime-Lyn Grant
Peterborough's Andy McArthur is fighting for his health.
Andy & Melina-May
The young father of a 5-year-old girl, Melina-May, recently discovered that he has an extremely large brain tumor on his pituitary gland. The news has come very suddenly Andy's friend Carley Stensen says on a fundraising page she's created for him. And it's beyond devastating for him and his family—including his fiancée Jaime-Lyn Grant (the mother of his child).
At the moment, Carley says Andy's sight has almost gone, he is awaiting surgery, and the doctors are unsure if his sight will ever fully return.
Andy does not have any form of medical compensation or benefits as he tries to beat this traumatic and life threatening situation. The fundraising campaign Carley has started goes toward medical expenses, bills, food—and everyday family expenses that arise.
The goal of the fundraising campaign for Andy—which ends November 21st—is $3,000 and they've already raised twice that amount. But let's keep it going. Contribute what you can here.
As well, there will be a "Kick This Tumors ASS" benefit on Friday, November 21st at Market Hall at 7 p.m. to raise more money for Andy.
If you would like to help by donating gifts for the silent auction portion of the benefit, or want more info on it, contact Chris Newmaster at 705.868.3035, or Carley Stenson at 705.930.0376 or via email.
Prayers for Andy and his family.

A bunch of Peterborough students have brought the house down with an excellent short zombie film that they wrote, directed, edited and starred in.
This film is infectious and twisted, and was filmed around the city.

The Trews were in town Saturday (October 26th) performing in concert at The Venue last night.
Earlier in the day, they did an intimate 7-song acoustic set in the Venue's lobby bar.
Watch them below singing "Highway of Heroes". "The song is kinda pertinent right now unfortunately," says lead singer Colin MacDonald. Indeed. —Scott Arnold

Read MoreThe Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) is a wonderful non-profit organization that rescues stray, injured and abused animals in the Lakefield area. Take the case of "Autumn", a severely injured dog that recently came to them. As they posted to their Facebook page, Autumn "was rescued from a backyard where she's been tied up for WHO knows how long! Her owners either didn't notice or didn't care that her eye infection had caused her eye to rupture." The photos below—via their Facebook post—are utterly disturbing to look at but this is the kind of horrific stuff they deal with, and why their role is vital in saving animals.
Autumn
Autumn has had her eye removed and is safe in a foster home until she's ready for her new forever home, LAWS says. She has an amazing personality, even after all she's been through. If you're interested in donating to help with the medical costs, contact LAWS. Every amount counts in large amounts.
UPDATED post: And here is what Autumn looks like now after love and care...

Energy 99.7, Country 105 and OLG Slots At Kawartha teamed up again this year to raise bras and funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the Bras Around the Building Campaign. The totals aren't in yet—OLG Slots at Kawartha donates $1 per gently-used bra collected to the Canadian Cancer Society to support breast cancer research—but it looks like a smash success once again as more than 6,000 bras were collected (surpassing last year's total) and strung around the radio station's building at 59 George Street North. The bras will be cleaned and turned over to various programs supporting women. Awesome.
