Here Are Amazing Photos From Inside The Tunnels & Abandoned Attic At PCVS
/There is an old tunnel between PCVS and the Armoury building dating back to the 1930s that was intended to facilitate cadets from the school "who would be saved outside movement in tough times," local historian Elwood Jones tells PTBOCanada.
Until now, we have never seen photos from inside the tunnel of this iconic building—or of the abandoned auditorium there. But former PCVS student Julie Douglas (2002-2007) did get inside both.

"I'd heard rumours about the tunnels and an abandoned auditorium above the science labs and had always wanted to visit (and even asked the science teachers if I could check it out a couple of times), but was always told no," Douglas tells PTBOCanada.

But all that changed in 2012 with the school's pending closure: "I'm a photographer who shoots a lot of abandoned buildings, so with rumours of the school potentially closing [it closed in June 2012 as a high school], I got in touch with a former teacher and the principal to see if I could document the space before it closed—and was granted permission," Douglas says.

"It was an amazing experience to be able to revisit a building that I had spent so much time in, and finally access the off-limits areas," Douglas tells PTBOCanada.

The Wiggles Are Coming To Showplace October 6th
/The popular Australian children's group The Wiggles are on a world tour, and are making a stop in Peterborough October 6th, where they will be performing at Showplace.
The Wiggles—who are celebrating their 25th birthday, the release of their new CD and DVD Wiggle Town, and their hit TV show—are playing two shows on October 6th, one at 3 p.m. and the other at 6:30 p.m., Showplace Marketing Manager Emily Martin tells PTBOCanada.

Startup Coffee 2.0 Launches At Silver Bean Café For Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Startup Peterborough, a place for budding and seasoned entrepreneurs to gather, learn from each other and get access to invaluable resources, is launching a special Startup Coffee 2.0 event Thursday, June 9th at the Silver Bean Café from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
"We've re-energized Startup Coffee, bringing a pitch element to the table," according to a Startup Peterborough release. "Think of Startup Coffee 2.0 as a bit of an 'Open Mic' for pitches, where startups and entrepreneurs are able to pitch their business ideas, products, services/new offerings to the attendees for feedback."
The idea of adding the pitch concept element for the Startup Coffee event is to really help give entrepreneurs the confidence they need to pitch their ideas to investors, potential business partners, prospective/current clients, friends, family, etc.

Watch This Great Video Of Taste Of Downtown
/Thousands of people enjoyed Taste of Downtown on a beautiful, sunny Saturday (June 4th) as Charlotte St. was closed off to vehicle traffic from George St. to Aylmer St. for this annual event showcasing the vibrant downtown.
The Peterborough Downtown Business Association did a great job again this year with organizing this amazing event.

Watch For Turtles Laying Eggs
/There are numerous spottings now of turtles alongside of roads and elsewhere—many of which are laying eggs.
We spotted this turtle laying eggs at Trent University near the Athletic Centre this morning.
Peterborough Police tweeted out this reminder to the public to watch for the turtles on the shoulders of roads...

Pop-Up Patio Comes To Downtown Peterborough This Summer

The Peterborough downtown, which is constantly innovating in exciting and dynamic new ways to showcase our beautiful downtown core—from upcoming (free) outdoor Wi-Fi (no official launch date yet) to the Summer Music series on Fridays to downtown murals—is now launching a "pop up patio".
The first pop up patio/sidewalk is at Natas Café on George Street...

This pilot project meant to look at ways of "animating George Street" is a joint partnership between the City of Peterborough, the DBIA and Natas Café. Parking along this section of George Street will shift as the police have given up their dedicated spaces to become regular parking, resulting in no parking spaces being lost.

The patio is on the sidewalk, and a pedestrian bump-out has been created to ease traffic around it. Much like the seasonal patios on Hunter Street, the new pop-up patio will be available when the weather gets warm and will be stored off-site in the off season.
“This is going to help animate George Street as people driving and cycling down one of our busiest streets see our downtown patrons outside enjoying themselves,” says Terry Guiel, Executive Director of the DBIA. “We’re excited to launch this pilot project at Natas Café and hopefully we can build on this in the future.”
"The City and the DBIA are working together to activate public spaces in our downtown," says Mayor Bennett.
"The sidewalk bump-out pilot project joins other initiatives such as the downtown murals program and the planned urban park at the Louis Street parking lot as we continue to invest in creative ways to generate activity in the commercial core for the benefit of the entire community," adds Mayor Bennett.

Pavement Marking Refresh Happening On City Streets
/The City of Peterborough Public Works Division has begun pavement marking operations to refresh all existing lines and pavement markings on City streets.
All existing markings—including center, skip, bike, stop bars, school crossings and crosswalks, as well as pavement edgings—will be repainted with work expected to be completed by October.
