New, Convenient Gateway To Kawarthas: 407 Extension Just Opened Off Highway 115
/There is a new convenient gateway to the Kawarthas, with the opening of the final stretch of Highway 407 and Highway 418.
Starting on Monday, December 9th, the final phase of this project will be open to drivers, connecting Highway 407 from the new Highway 418 to Highway 35/115. Highway 418 will provide another north/south connection from Highway 407 to Highway 401.

The extension will add 14.2 kilometres to Highway 407, and the new Highway 418 (10 kilometres). This will add more options for commuters and families to travel across the region faster.
”It is an important connector of people and goods to and from Ontario’s largest economy,” says Sandra Dueck, Policy Analyst, The Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce.

"The completion of the Highway 407 East project will connect communities and greatly improve our transportation network in this region," adds Vijay Thanigasalam, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation.

"Connecting Highway 407 to Highway 35/115 will create a vital link between Peterborough and the Greater Toronto Area," says Dave Smith, MPP for Peterborough-Kawartha. "The extension of this highway will help attract jobs and economic growth to this region."
In total, the extended Highway 407 and new Highway 418 will add over 24 km of new highways, benefiting communities across Durham and Peterborough and the Kawarthas.

Peterborough's Wayne Dulmage Wins Instant Crossword Tripler $100,000 Prize
/Away, Afloat and Elk were only some of the words that Wayne Dulmage of Peterborough revealed on his INSTANT CROSSWORD TRIPLER (Game #2093) ticket to win a $100,000 top prize.
"I checked my ticket three times to be sure that I won," says Wayne, while at the OLG Prize Centre to pick up his cheque. "I couldn't believe it!"
The 71-year old retiree plans to pay some bills, fix his car and buy a new trailer. "This win provides more security," adds Wayne. "I am quite happy!"
The winning ticket was purchased at Foodtown on Main Street in Coe Hill.

A Cross Pendant Containing Ashes Of Deceased One Stolen From Vehicle

The Peterborough Police Service is asking anyone with information to come forward following a vehicle break-in on Brioux Avenue where a cross pendant was stolen containing the ashes of a deceased family member.
Over the course of the evening of December 3rd, an unknown person entered a vehicle parked at a Brioux Avenue home and stole items including a black cross pendant on a thin silver chain containing the ashes of a deceased loved one.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Peterborough Police Service at 705-876-1122 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or Crime Stoppers online.

Fish Pendant Containing Ashes Of Loved One Stolen From Vehicle In Peterborough
/The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a fish pendant containing the ashes of a loved one was stolen during a vehicle break-in.
During the evening hours of November 24th to November 25th, an unknown person entered a vehicle parked at a McClennan Street home and stole various items including loose change and car charges. During the theft, the victim reported that a necklace with a stainless steel fish pendant containing a portion of the ashes from a deceased loved one was also stolen.

Enjoy Free Two-hour Holiday Parking In December
/Thanks for HotSpot’s sponsorship, you can now thoroughly enjoy free two-hour holiday parking at all downtown municipal parking spaces during December. Peterborough Petes General Manager Michael Oke Signs Two-Year Contract Extension
/The Peterborough Petes have signed General Manager Michael Oke to to a two-year contract extension, through the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. His current contract was set to expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
Under Oke, the Petes currently sit in first place in the Ontario Hockey League, and have been listed in the Kia CHL Top 10 rankings for three consecutive weeks. The team has compiled a record of 197-191-10-24, including three playoff series wins, five playoff appearances, and the team’s first division title since 2006 with Oke at the helm.

“The Board of Directors is pleased to extend Mike’s contract in recognition of the steady progress the organization has made under his leadership,” says President Dave Pogue.
“This extension adds stability to our organization in the midst of a season of high expectations, and current players and prospects can have continued confidence in the Hockey Operations department moving forward. Mike has done a great deal to improve the operations of the Peterborough Petes, and the Board felt this was the right time to show our appreciation for his hard work.”

Fleming College Receives STARS Gold Rating For Sustainability Achievements
/Fleming College has earned a STARS Gold rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
The index highlights top-performing sustainable colleges and universities overall and in 17 sustainability impact areas, as measured by STARS.
