/The 2nd Annual “Campfires & Cocktails” event takes place Saturday, April 18th at the Canadian Canoe Museum this year, and the theme is Channel Your Flannel.
There will be live music by the Dixie Hicks (Melissa Payne, Kate Suhr and Kate Brioux), along with a special appearance by Robert Atyeo and Wayne O’Connor. Peterborough’s own Jason Wilkins will be illustrating a paddle live at the event, which will then be available to win in a live auction that takes place. The signature cocktail will be provided by Blacks Distillery and uniquely crafted for the event.

United Way of Peterborough & District Announces One Of Largest Concerts In Peterborough History
/Mic Drop: The United Way of Peterborough & District just announced one of the largest concerts in Peterborough history in order to raise vital funds in the fight against homelessness.
“Peterborough Performs: Musicians Against Homelessness” takes place at Showplace Performance Centre Thursday, March 5th, and includes the Weber Brothers Band, the Austin Carson Band, Melissa Payne and Kate Suhr, Danny Bronson, the Three Martinis, Rick and Gailie’s Peterborough All-Star Band, Hillary Dumoulin, James Higgins, Elyse Saunders, Tami J. Wilde, Jacques Graveline, Phil Stephenson, Nick Ferrio, Jake Dudas, and Victoria Pearce with Mike Graham.
The event is generously sponsored by RBC Royal Bank of Canada, and Megan Murphy and Jordan Mercier will serve as masters of ceremony. A silent auction will feature close to 30 items. General seating will accommodate non-stop performances on the David Goyette Stage and in the Nexicom Studio.
All proceeds from the event will be dedicated to United Way-funded agencies that provide housing and shelter to the marginalized. “I am grateful to Campaign Cabinet Member Paul Rellinger for his leadership in bringing this event to life,” says United Way Campaign Chair David Goyette. “We were all disturbed by the emergence of tent city last summer and it crystallized in us a desire to do better in serving people in need. I know that all our performers and sponsors feel the same way.”

Growing Peterborough Snow Polar Bear Family Has Become Feel Good Winter Story Of 2020
/What started out as a solo Mama Snow Bear has grown with the addition of two cubs, and what’s shaping to be the most adorable, feel good story of the winter in Peterborough.
These “polar bears” near George and Parkhill have become a major attraction for passers-by, with the community basically “adopting” these bears as their own.
With each new cub lovingly created and designed, it’s like the community is having another baby.

Melissa Payne’s New Album Darker Than Your Dark Out March 6th
/Ennismore’s Melissa Payne releases her new album, Darker Than Your Dark, on Friday, March 6th.
Produced by Greg Keelor (Blue Rodeo), James McKenty (The Spades), and Maia Davies (Ladies of the Canyon), the record explores a new realm from the pages of Payne's songbook. Honest and vulnerable, Darker Than You Dark guides the listener through emotive peaks and valleys that can be at once heartbreaking and cathartic.
Melissa Payne co-wrote many of the songs with the album's three producers—all artists who she has also performed with in the past, and who worked on her sophomore album High and Dry (2014).
Aside from being an in-demand player, her background in old time fiddle and traditional celtic music has evolved into a blossoming solo career. The record comes after nearly a year on the road with Matt Mays, where Payne toured as part of his Dark Promises backing band.

We Are Family: Petes Clinch Playoff Spot On Family Day In Front Of Sold-Out Crowd At Memorial Centre
/It was a Family Day day to remember for the Peterborough Petes as they clinched a playoff spot at the Memorial Centre in front of a sold-out crowd of 3,764 fans, defeating the Central Division-leading Sudbury Wolves 5-2.
The Wolves opened the scoring on the power play before the Petes got three consecutive goals from Nick Robertson (45, 46) and Zach Gallant (28), bringing the score to 3-1. Sudbury would come within one goal late in the second period, but Liam Kirk (19) and Gallant (29) sealed Peterborough’s win with third period tallies.

Robertson (with two assists as well) recorded four points in total, extending his point streak to 18 games.
Final shots were even at 30 apiece, with Hunter Jones making 28 saves. Peterborough went 1/3 on the power play and 2/3 on the penalty kill.
The Petes play just one game this week, hosting the Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday (February 20th) at 7:05 p.m.
