Local Third-Generation Lacrosse Player Scores First Career National Lacrosse League Goal

It will be a night that Peterborough’s Mitch Ogilvie will never forget as he scored his first career National Lacrosse League (NLL) goal for the Rochester Knights on Friday night.

The 22-year old defenseman scored the opening goal of the game against the Halifax Thunderbirds at 10:35 as the only score of the first quarter. The goal was also his first point of the season in his fifth career game.

He received a pass from teammate Dan Coates — with a secondary assist from defenseman Matthew Bennett — in transition to score a breakaway goal against the 2019 President’s Cup MVP goaltender Warren Hill.

Ogilvie was the 54th overall pick for the Rochester Knighthawks in the 2020 NLL Entry Draft.

Andy Ogilvie, his uncle, was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2014. He spent nine seasons in the NLL with the Buffalo Bandits, Vancouver Ravens and Calgary Roughnecks.

His cousin Mack O’Brien played for the now-defunct NLL’s Chicago Shamrox. Another uncle, Bruce Ogilvie played for the junior and senior Peterborough Lakers. His grandfather Bill Ogilvie has been president of the Jr. A Lakers.

The Thunderbirds defeated the Knighthawks 11-7.

Dave Ellis: March Photography In Review

Dave Ellis is an Omemee-area wildlife photographer. PTBOCanada often features his work in our daily ‘Good Morning PTBO’ posts. What follows is some of the photographs he took in March.

This local river otter has caught itself a little snack.

This month much of the local wildlife was seen emerging from winter, and scurrying around the last piles of snow.

A local young bald eagle takes its meal to go.

A local coyote surveys his surroundings.

Ellis often captures wildlife in action, on the hunt for their next meal or taking a break and lounging in the snow.

This local red fox is standing guard over her territory.

This local mink in enjoying a fish for lunch.

Ellis’s photography captures wildlife around Peterborough and The Kawarthas beautifully.

PTBOCanada looks forward to what it to come as it warms up outside and local wildlife emerges.

The funds go towards the Red Cross in a campaign called “PeterboroughHelpsUkraine.”

The initial soccer equipment fundraiser — selling soccer apparel, footwear and equipment at half price — was held last Saturday at Hybrid Sports. The $10,000 goal was easily surpassed as the event raised $17,421.50 that has been placed into the fundraiser account.

“It was a great day and the people of Peterborough were extremely supportive,” said Waselenko.

The first-generation Ukranian said he wanted to create a medium for the public to help Ukraine.

“I know that people want to help and contribute but they sometimes do not know where or how to do that,” said Waselenko.
