Peterborough Woman Arrested For Stealing Money From a Vehicle In a Parking Lot

A 33-year-old Peterborough woman faces a theft charge after stealing money from a vehicle Wednesday morning.

At roughly 10:15 a.m., officers were called to a parking lot in the Rink Street and George Street area about a woman going through a vehicle. The vehicle owner attempted to stop the woman but the suspect left the area.

Officers learned that the vehicle had been entered and that some money was gone. During a search of the area, officers located a woman matching the description given to police and took her into custody.

The woman was arrested and charged with:

• Theft Under $5,000

• Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is currently bound by a probation with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 10.

The Peterborough Petes have released details for their annual training camp, with Rookie Camp beginning on Monday at Healthy Planet Arena.

Peterborough Dreams of Beans Becomes Co-Op

Community coffee shop and breakfast restaurant, Dreams of Beans, has expanded its ownership into a co-op model.

Dreams of Beans staff member Logan Benson and baker Melanie Johnson have joined Andrew MacGregor in ownership.

“An expanding ownership team makes room for a larger restaurant offering,” said MacGregor. “It helps smooth the path to bring back Dreams After Dark: a dinner and licensed drink service, including evening community events and live entertainment.”

Since 2023, MacGregor has instituted a living wage and no-tipping policy, moved the café from its former location to a larger spot, and introduced a breakfast menu.

Benson joined Dreams of Beans originally as a placement student three years ago.

“Starting off at Dreams of Beans as a co-op student, I never imagined I would one day become a co-owner,” she said. “It’s something I’m incredibly proud of, and I’m excited to continue growing DoB, bringing new ideas to life, and helping make it a place where everyone feels welcome.”

Johnson joined Dreams of Beans in 2025 as a baker.

“Dreams of Beans is a business I believe in--the how and why we do things set us apart,” she said. “I want to make sure our customers continue to have an amazing experience, especially with my baked treats! I've been through a lot to get here, and I am focused, confident, and excited to watch all of us grow together.”

“To our customers, new and familiar, there should be little apparent change to the experience of visiting our restaurant, as we intend to carry on with our great vibe and good food, still paying a living wage, still no tipping,” said MacGregor.

Community Care Peterborough Renames Chemung Office As Ennismore Office

To create a clearer, more consistent connection between the office and the community it serves, Community Care Peterborough (CCP) has renamed the Chemung Office the Community Care Peterborough – Ennismore Office.

The name change is part of Community Care Peterborough’s ongoing work to bring greater consistency to how its eight local offices are identified across the City and County of Peterborough.

“Our local offices have deep roots in the communities they serve, and that local connection is something we value,” said Danielle Belair, CCP CEO. “At the same time, we want it to be clear that each office is part of one Community Care Peterborough organization. The Ennismore Office name helps us do both.”

Located at 549 Ennis Rd., CCP says moving to the Ennismore name better reflects its physical location and aligns it with its other offices, which are identified by the communities in which they are based.

CCP reminds the public that the change is in name only. Services of helping older adults and adults with disabilities remain independent in their homes and connected to their communitiesremain the same.

Residents will begin seeing the Ennismore Office name appear on Community Care Peterborough’s website, signage, printed materials and other communications as materials are updated.

Peterborough Police Lay Two Stunt Separate Driving Charges On the Same Day

The Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit has charged two drivers under the Highway Traffic Act for stunt driving and speeding on Aug. 5.

A 55-year-old male driver towing a trailer was recorded going 121 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone on Lily Lake Road near Eastwood Road. The driver was charged with stunt driving, speeding and failing to surrender a permit for a trailer under the Highway Traffic Act.

In a second case, a 50-year-old female driver was recorded going 98 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone on Lily Lake Road near Eastwood Road. The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding under the Highway Traffic Act. 

Both drivers had their licenses suspended for 30 days and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days.

Peterborough DBIA Hosting Watch Parties of Peterborough Lakers In MSL Final At Quaker Foods City Square

As the Peterborough Lakers battle the Six Nations Chiefs in the 2026 MSL Finals, the Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA) is hosting watch parties at Quaker Foods City Square on three dates.

The outdoor watch parties will broadcast the road games live on the big screen on:

• Sunday, Aug. 23 — Game 3 at 7:00 p.m.

• Thursday, Aug. 27 — Game 5 at 8:00 p.m. (if necessary)

• Tuesday, Sept. 1 — Game 7 at 8:00 p.m. (if necessary)

“Lakers Nation is one of the loudest and most passionate fanbases in lacrosse!” said Pete Dalliday, Lakers director of community engagement and partnerships. “When the team hits the road, Quaker Foods City Square will be the next best place to be aside from the Memorial Centre. We’re excited to team up with the DBIA and the City of Peterborough to create a big-game atmosphere downtown, where fans can gather, make some noise and cheer on the blue and red together. Talking with our players they can feel the support from all the flags around town and this just adds to the vibe.”

“We know how much the Lakers mean to Peterborough and there’s nothing quite like the energy that comes from a playoff run,” said Nour Mazloum, DBIA executive director. “This will give fans a great reason to come together, cheer for the Lakers, and make a full night of it by dining out and exploring downtown Peterborough before faceoff.”

The DBIA reminds the public that watch parties are outdoor events and may be cancelled in the event of rain.

Peterborough Police Community Open House Set for September

After being postponed earlier this summer because of poor weather, the Peterborough Police Service’s Community Open House now has a new date.

Members of the Peterborough Police Service will welcome residents to the rescheduled Community Open House on September 12th, with visitors invited to meet officers, explore the station and learn more about the service’s various units (photo via facebook @ptbopolice)

The event is set for Saturday, September 12th, giving residents an opportunity to stop by the police station, meet members of the service and get a closer look at some of the teams that help serve Peterborough.

Visitors will be able to connect with officers and members from units including K9, the Emergency Response Team, Community F.I.R.S.T., the Mobile Crisis Intervention Team, Bike Patrol and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System team.

The police service’s recruitment team will also be there for anyone interested in learning more about a career with Peterborough Police.

The open house will also include station tours, along with cotton candy and other sweet treats.

The Community Open House was originally scheduled for June 6th but was postponed due to poor weather.

Survivors Abreast Peterborough Heads to International Festival In Aix-Les-Bains, France

The Survivors Abreast Peterborough dragon boat team is Europe-bound, headed to Aix-les-Bains, France, to represent Peterborough at the International Breast Cancer Paddling Commission (IBCPC) Participatory Dragon Boat Festival from Aug. 24 to 30.

The International Dragon Boat Races for Breast Cancer Survivors occur every four years.  Survivors Abreast hosted the event in Peterborough in 2010 and has since attended Sarasota, Florida (2014), Florence, Italy (2018) and Waikato, New Zealand (2023). Photo courtesy of Survivors Abreast.

The team is made up of breast cancer survivors from Peterborough and the surrounding area.

The France festival will host 4,500 breast cancer survivors paddling on 170 teams, representing 37 countries.

The parade of nations and opening ceremonies are on the 27th, followed by two full days of races (3 x 500m & 3 x 200m). The Sandy Smith Global Finale race, a special flower ceremony and closing ceremonies are on Aug. 29.

Peterborough Transit Service Begins Fall Service Schedule Effective Sept. 6

Starting Sept. 6, Peterborough Transit is implementing its fall service schedule, which includes the return of seasonal late-night service, the reinstatement of school and post-secondary trips and the introduction of the new Route 14 O’Tech Connect.

School and post-secondary service changes begins on Sept. 8, following the Labour Day holiday. 

Route 3 Park 

Weekday trips serving area schools will be reinstated. 

The following southbound trips from Trent University will return: 

• 7:25 a.m. 

• 8:25 a.m. 

The temporary 8 a.m. southbound departure will return to its regular 7:45 a.m. departure time. 

The following northbound trips from Clonsilla Avenue at Summit Plaza will also return to their regular times: 

• 7:05 a.m. 

• 8:01 a.m. 

• 9:03 a.m. 

Route 5 The Parkway 

Seasonal late-night northbound service will be reinstated on weekdays, weekends and holidays for the fall and winter academic period. 

Route 6 Sherbrooke 

Seasonal late-night eastbound and westbound service will be reinstated on weekdays, weekends and holidays for the fall and winter academic period. 

Route 7 Lansdowne 

Weekday morning and afternoon trips serving area schools will be reinstated. 

The following westbound trips will return: 

• 7:20 a.m. from Willowcreek Plaza 

• 7:45 a.m. from Walker Avenue at Bramble Road 

The following eastbound trips will also return: 

• 8:05 a.m. from Willowcreek Plaza 

• 2:40 p.m. from Fleming College 

Route 7A will continue using its seasonal routing through the Lift Lock Tunnel until the end of October. 

Route 9 Parkhill 

Weekday afternoon trips serving area schools will be reinstated. 

The following westbound trips from Trent University will return: 

• 3 p.m. 

• 4 p.m. 

The 2:30 p.m. eastbound trip from Parkhill Road at Medical Drive will also return. 

Route 11 and 11A Water 

Route 11 and Route 11A service will resume on Tuesday, September 8. 

Route 11 provides service between Trent University and the Peterborough Terminal. Route 11A provides service between Trent University and Traill College. 

Routes 11 and 11A operate while Trent University is in regular session. Service may be adjusted or temporarily suspended during Reading Weeks, examinations, winter closures and other academic breaks. 

New Route 14 O’Tech Connect 

Peterborough Transit is introducing Route 14 O’Tech Connect. This route replaces the former Route 10 Technology and Route 12 Otonabee, combining them into one continuous weekday route.  

The combined route provides a more direct connection between the Otonabee and Technology Drive areas, along with hourly service and later evening travel options.

Weekday service will operate from 5:25 a.m., with the final trip departing at 10:35 p.m.  

Route 14 will provide connections between the Peterborough Terminal, the Memorial Centre, River Road, Bensfort Road, Neal Drive, Technology Drive, Willowcreek Plaza, Middlefield Road, Otonabee Drive, Southpark Drive, Collison Avenue and the Lansdowne Street corridor.

Hiltz Hat Trick Leads Canada to Second Straight Win at Pan-Am Championship

Owen Hiltz scored three times as Canada continued its perfect start to the Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Championship with a 17-5 win over Haudenosaunee in Jamaica.

The Peterborough native was one of Canada’s offensive leaders Wednesday, scoring three goals on four shots as Canada improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Hiltz scored twice in a span of just two minutes during the second quarter, finding the net at 17:39 and 19:01 to help Canada take a 9-2 lead into halftime.

He completed the hat trick early in the third quarter, scoring at 11:21 to put Canada up 11-2.

Hiltz wasn’t the only Canadian attacker to have a big night. Finn Thomson led the way with four goals and two assists, while Alex Simmons and Graydon Hogg each scored three and added two assists and one assist, respectively.

Canada outshot Haudenosaunee 44-16 and built a 12-2 advantage through the first half before cruising to the 17-5 victory.

Peterborough’s Wyatt Wiggins was once again part of Canada’s defensive group as the team limited Haudenosaunee to just five goals.

The victory leaves Canada 2-0 in pool play after opening the tournament with a 19-2 win over Mexico, when Hiltz had a goal and an assist.

Canada will continue its tournament Thursday against the U.S. Virgin Islands before wrapping up pool play against Argentina on Friday.

The Pan-American championship is being held in Kingston, Jamaica, and serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Japan.
