Peterborough Natives Help Canada Rally to Pan-Am Gold in Jamaica

Peterborough natives Owen Hiltz and Wyatt Wiggins are Pan-American champions after Canada erased a three-goal fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the United States 9-8 in Sunday’s gold-medal game in Kingston, Jamaica.

Canada trailed 8-5 early in the fourth quarter before scoring four unanswered goals to complete the comeback and claim the Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

Hiltz scored once and added an assist in the final, while Wiggins was part of Canada’s defensive group as the Canadians held the Americans scoreless for the entire fourth quarter.

Alex Simmons tied the game with 1:32 remaining and then provided the game-winning goal with just 20 seconds remaining, completing a four-goal performance for Canada.

Simmons is a familiar name for local lacrosse fans. He played for the Oakville Rock, who were eliminated by the Peterborough Lakers in the Major Series Lacrosse semifinals earlier this month.

Hiltz finished the tournament with nine goals and seven assists for 16 points, which was fourth-most on the Canadian team and seventh-most in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Wiggins helped anchor the Canadian defence throughout the championship, holding their opponents to just eight goals in five games, including a shutout win against Argentina.

The gold medal also capped a successful tournament for Peterborough’s Dan Carey, who put the team together as Canada’s general manager.

Canada’s run to the championship included wins over Mexico, Haudenosaunee, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Argentina before Sunday’s comeback against the United States.

The tournament also secured Canada’s place at the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Japan, giving the Canadian team a championship title and a spot on the world stage in the same tournament.

Pair of Peterborough Boys Help Canada Cruise Their Way Into Pan-Am Final

Peterborough natives Owen Hiltz and Wyatt Wiggins have helped Canada reach the Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Championship final after a pair of dominant wins in Jamaica.

Canada followed up Wednesday’s 17-5 win over Haudenosaunee with a 23-1 win over the U.S. Virgin Islands on Thursday before blanking Argentina 23-0 on Friday.

Canada’s perfect record in Pool B didn’t just secure them a spot in the final, where they’ll be guaranteed at least a silver, it also officially qualified the team for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Japan.

Hiltz continued to make an impact for Canada’s offence in both games.

The Peterborough native scored three goals and added two assists against the U.S. Virgin Islands, then followed that up with a goal and three assists in Friday’s win over Argentina.

That gives Hiltz eight goals and six assists through Canada’s four games at the tournament, good for 14 points, which is tied for third on the Canadian team and tied for eighth overall in the tournament.

Wiggins, a Peterborough native and member of Canada’s defensive group, has also been part of the team’s strong run. Canada has allowed just eight goals through four games, including only one over its last two outings.

Now Wiggins, Hiltz and the rest of team Canada will play for the Pan-American championship and the United States in the gold-medal game at 3pm on Sunday.

Hiltz Hat Trick Leads Canada to Second Straight Win at Pan-Am Championship

Owen Hiltz scored three times as Canada continued its perfect start to the Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Championship with a 17-5 win over Haudenosaunee in Jamaica.

The Peterborough native was one of Canada’s offensive leaders Wednesday, scoring three goals on four shots as Canada improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Hiltz scored twice in a span of just two minutes during the second quarter, finding the net at 17:39 and 19:01 to help Canada take a 9-2 lead into halftime.

He completed the hat trick early in the third quarter, scoring at 11:21 to put Canada up 11-2.

Hiltz wasn’t the only Canadian attacker to have a big night. Finn Thomson led the way with four goals and two assists, while Alex Simmons and Graydon Hogg each scored three and added two assists and one assist, respectively.

Canada outshot Haudenosaunee 44-16 and built a 12-2 advantage through the first half before cruising to the 17-5 victory.

Peterborough’s Wyatt Wiggins was once again part of Canada’s defensive group as the team limited Haudenosaunee to just five goals.

The victory leaves Canada 2-0 in pool play after opening the tournament with a 19-2 win over Mexico, when Hiltz had a goal and an assist.

Canada will continue its tournament Thursday against the U.S. Virgin Islands before wrapping up pool play against Argentina on Friday.

The Pan-American championship is being held in Kingston, Jamaica, and serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Japan.

Hiltz Picks Up Points as Team Canada Opens Pan-Am Championship With Big Win

Peterborough’s Owen Hiltz found the scoresheet as Team Canada opened the Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Championship with a 19-2 win over Mexico in Jamaica on Monday.

Hiltz scored once and added an assist as Canada jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back.

The Peterborough native’s goal came early in the game, with Hiltz finding the net 2:44 into the opening quarter on a setup from Finn Thomson.

Hiltz added an assist later in the second half, setting up Ty English for Canada’s 14th goal of the afternoon.

Meanwhile, fellow Peterborough native Wyatt Wiggins was part of Canada’s defensive group as the team held Mexico to just two goals.

The win gave Canada an impressive start to the tournament, which runs through August 23rd in Kingston, Jamaica, and serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Japan.

Canada’s next test comes Tuesday, August 18th, when they face the Haudenosaunee team at 6pm ET.

Two Peterborough Natives Headed to Jamaica With Team Canada

Peterborough will have two familiar names on the international stage as Wyatt Wiggins and Owen Hiltz suit up for Canada at the 2026 Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Championship in Jamaica.

The two Peterborough natives have been named to Canada’s 25-player roster for the tournament, which runs August 16th to 23rd in Kingston, Jamaica.

Wiggins will line up on defence, while Hiltz will be part of Canada’s attack as the national team takes on some of the top teams from across the Pan-American region.

The tournament is more than just an opportunity to represent Canada. It also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Japan, with five teams from the Pan-American region earning qualification for the top division.

Canada will open pool play against Mexico on Monday, August 17th at 2pm ET before facing Haudenosaunee on Tuesday, August 18th at 6pm.

The team will then meet the U.S. Virgin Islands on Thursday, August 20th at 1pm before wrapping up pool play against Argentina on Friday, August 21st.

For Wiggins and Hiltz, the tournament adds another chapter to careers that have already taken them well beyond their hometown.

Now, the pair will have a chance to pull on the Canadian jersey together as Canada looks to make its mark in Jamaica and secure a place at the 2027 World Championship.

Silver Medals for Four Peterborough Natives at 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship in Tokyo

Four Peterborough natives are returning to Canadian soil with silver medals after helping Team Canada reach the podium at the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship in Tokyo, Japan.

Canada earned the silver medal after falling 16-4 to the United States in Sunday's gold medal game, marking another strong showing for the national program on the world stage. It was Canada’s fourth silver medal in a row and their sixth medal in 12 appearances since the tournament began in 1982, with the event taking place every four years.

Peterborough native Erica Evans capped off an outstanding tournament with a goal and an assist in the championship game. She finished with 10 goals and seven assists in six games and was named to the World Team, an honour recognizing the tournament’s top ten players from across the planet.

Lexi Jenkins was part of Canada's defensive unit throughout the tournament, showing consistent stellar play throughout the entire tournament, while fellow Peterborough natives Allison Daley and Jocelyne Lemay played key roles behind the bench as co-head coach and team manager, respectively.

Canada entered the tournament ranked second in the world, proving itself as one of the top programs in the sport, with local talent continuing to play a huge role in the success.

For Peterborough, the tournament was another reminder of the city's rich lacrosse tradition, with four hometown representatives helping Canada compete for a world championship.
