Independent Record Shop ZAP Records Opening Location At Former Moondance
/Independent record shop ZAP Records, which has been located in Downtown Cobourg since 1991, has announced they are opening another location in Downtown Peterborough in the former Moondance store location (425 George St. N.).
“We’ve known Mike at Moondance forever, shopping his collection like every other record collector, and we were just as surprised when he announced his retirement," says Zap Records owner Tim Gorman. "After watching the response and talking with people in Peterborough, we knew we had to do what we could to make sure the location continued to be an independent record shop."

"Mike and Moondance will be missed, and we can obviously never replace him, but we hope that Peterborough will be just as excited as we are to keep the torch burning for independent record shops in downtown Peterborough," adds Gorman, who will be manning the Peterborough store with additional staff.
ZAP Records plans to open the Peterborough location by the end of June, with a great collection of new and previously owned vinyl, CD’s, collectibles and more. They will continue to special order music for customers in search of rare and precious albums.
Their current location in downtown Cobourg will stay exactly where it is.

Iconic East City Staple Sullivan's Pharmacy Announces Ownership Change
/Jason Hinton is the new sole owner of the iconic East City business Sullivan’s Pharmacy after his former business partner, Doug Shier, has decided to sell his ownership in the business.
“Sullivan’s continues to deliver the same professional, high-quality service that has made it an iconic East City business,” Hinton says. “I’m extremely pleased to carry on the tradition of this family-owned, independent business that was built by the Sullivan family.”

Hinton and Shier purchased the business in 2014, but Shier (who had been a pharamacist there for 32 years) has been absent from Sullivan’s since he decided to take a leave of absence for personal matters in February 2016. When Shier decided he wouldn’t be returning to the business, he offered to sell his share of the business to Hinton.
Prior to joining Sullivan’s Pharmacy as a pharmacist in 2013, Hinton had previously owned and operated Shoppers Drug Mart franchises downtown and at Mapleridge Plaza in Peterborough.
“Doug was a cornerstone of Sullivan’s for many years,” Hinton adds. “He worked closely with the Sullivans and helped guide the transition to the new ownership of the business. I respect his decision to step away from the business to focus on his personal matters. I would like to thank Doug for all his contributions to Sullivan’s and I wish him all the best.”

Nostalgic Peterborough Couple Launching Ice Cream & Popsicle Bicycle Pedal Parlor Co.

Ever since Peterborough couple Niki Allday and Jesse Guerin first begin dating, they agreed that one day they would purchase an ice cream bicycle and bring back those amazing childhood memories of Dickie Dee ice cream.
"The sound of the bell is something I will never forget," Niki tells PTBOCanada of her childhood memories of the colourful modified tricyle with its fiberglass compartment full of frozen tasty treats. The couple purchased a vintage original Dickie Dee bike and are refinishing it, and the name of their business will be the Pedal Parlor Co.

Niki and Jesse believe their locally owned and operated ice cream bicycle will bring a sense of nostalgia along with it—"a feeling of happiness, and memories of sunny summer days where the bells ring, and you run outside to catch the bicycle with your friends."

"We are hoping to have some of the original flavours sold by Dickie Dee, including rockets and fudgsicles," Allday tells PTBOCanada.com, adding "we are also hoping to have a few dairy free, vegan and healthy options."
Weather permitting, Pedal Parlor Co. will launch sometime in May on residential streets in town, but the bike will be "road ready" with its new design by April. Jesse will be doing most of the actual bike riding, while Niki will look after marketing and purchasing. If all goes well, more bikes will be added and they will eventually have a fleet.
The modern twist of being able to utilize social media will enable people to find out the location of the bike on Pedal Parlor's Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages. As well, the bike will be available to service birthday parties, picnics, weddings and other special occasions. Amusé Coffee Co. Opens Pop Up Location In VentureNorth Building In Downtown
/Local café Amusé Coffee Co., which opened its first location at 641 George St. in 2015, has now also opened a "pop up" location for its authentic Paris-inspired charm of fair trade organic whole bean coffee and baked goods in the main lobby of the VentureNorth Building in downtown Peterborough.

Owner Lindsay Brock will be serving Amusé products on Mondays and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the hopes of eventually being there more days.
“I’m so excited to be expanding into VentureNorth, they have so many exciting things happening in this building and I’m really happy to be connected to that,” says Brock. “We are currently here Mondays and Wednesdays for March, and hopefully on a more permanent basis thereafter.”

Amusé Coffee Co., which sprung out of the FastStart Peterborough program for budding entrepreneurs, continues to serve Fair Trade Organic whole bean coffee, premium loose tea, and a range of baked goods and brunch options with a French-feel.

Ritual Apothecary To Open In Downtown Peterborough After Winning Win This Space
/Nadine McCallen is the grand prize winner of Win This Space 2018, which includes a storefront free for a year in beautiful downtown Peterborough. The announcement was made at The Venue on Thursday night (March 1st) in front of a great crowd.
McCallen owns The Willow's Bark and will be opening a new store called Ritual Apothecary in the downtown. Her shop will sell locally produced skincare, herbal remedies and household products from a variety of sustainable companies focusing on wildcrafted, organic and unrefined ingredients.

McCallen is looking to create a social space where people can blend their own teas while sitting and reading a book or participating in a workshop.
“It’s inspiring to see all these creative ideas for new businesses that people want to open here in downtown Peterborough,” says Terry Guiel, Executive Director of the Downtown Business Improvement Area. “I’d like to congratulate Nadine on all her hard work and earning this lifechanging prize.”
