For a hockey town like Peterborough, the Peterborough Petes are woven into the fabric of the community. Now, fans have another convenient place to find their favourite team’s merchandise, with a new display at Canadian Tire on Lansdowne Street West.
The partnership brings the team’s merchandise into one of the city’s familiar retail destinations, giving fans an opportunity to pick up their favourite gear while shopping for everyday essentials. It also means visitors coming to Peterborough for hockey tournaments and other events can find Petes merchandise without having to make a separate trip to the team store.
For Mark Million, Petes Director of Merchandise and Community Growth and the Ontario Hockey League’s Retailer of the Year, the opportunity represents more than another place to sell t-shirts and hats. It is another way to bring the team closer to the community that has supported it for generations.
“We’re a community-based club, so being able to show our wares at Canadian Tire is a real positive for us on the business side, but certainly on the Petes Hockey community side,” said Million. “The more places you can see the Petes Hockey, the better off we all are.”

The idea came together through a connection between Million and Ralph Moulton, the associate dealer and owner of the Canadian Tire on Lansdowne, and longtime Petes season ticket holder. With an introduction from Petes scouting staff member Dan Larmer, the conversation turned into an opportunity to bring the team’s merchandise into the store.
Million said Moulton was generous with the amount of space provided for the merchandise, helping create a display that makes the Petes a visible part of the store’s hockey section.
“We’re super fortunate to have Canadian Tire,” said Million. “I’m not sure that there’s another retailer in the country that is more hockey than Canadian Tire.”

That connection makes the partnership a natural fit for both sides. Canadian Tire has a long-standing presence in the community, while the Petes remain one of Peterborough’s most recognizable sporting institutions.
For Kelly Parsons of Canadian Tire, having the team’s merchandise in the store is another way to support local hockey while making it easier for fans to show their colours.
“We love to be part of the community,” said Parsons. “We do a lot of community work throughout the city and it’s just really great to be part of the Petes community.”

The display offers a range of merchandise for fans of all ages, including toddler, youth and adult t-shirts, hats, mini sticks, bar mats and vacuum-sealed mugs. Million said the selection mirrors the assortment available at the Petes store at the Memorial Centre, with fresh merchandise already brought in to replenish the display.
The prices are also expected to match those at the Petes store, with Canadian Tire following the team’s suggested retail pricing.
One of the biggest advantages is accessibility. While the Petes store operates during the day, Canadian Tire is open seven days a week from 7am to 10pm, giving fans more opportunities to pick up merchandise outside the team store’s regular hours.
“If you’re already here at Canadian Tire and you’re getting your things, I mean, the MM Centre is the destination,” said Million. “But yeah, seven days a week and 7am to 10pm. That’s not something for us. You’re here, you’re already picking up a few other things. Throw a Petes item in the cart for sure.”
There is also something meaningful about seeing the Petes represented in a place that welcomes people from across the region. Whether it is a local family shopping for the week or a visiting team in town for a tournament, the merchandise adds a distinctly Peterborough touch to the experience.
Million hopes that presence will continue to grow through relationships with other local businesses, extending the Petes’ reach beyond the arena and into more corners of the community.
