City of Peterborough Releases OLG Gaming Revenue Spending

The City of Peterborough has released its funding recipients from revenue by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation as the host community for Shorelines Casino Peterborough.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation revenues totaled $2,717,827 for the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

Examples of how the funding was directed to benefit the community in 2025 include:

  • $880,900 toward police equipment needs, including replacing vehicles 

  • $500,000 for planting trees 

  • $500,000 toward the City’s commitment of providing $4 million to the Canadian Canoe Museum’s capital campaign for its new facility 

  • $473,000 for Fairhaven long-term care facility’s capital funding 

  • $155,000 for improvements to parks 

  • $89,100 for public art 

  • $75,000 for sport tourism activities 

“Being a casino host community allows us to reinvest OLG revenue in areas where it will enhance the quality of life for residents and help our city grow. Thank you to the provincial government and OLG for being a strong partner through these significant investments in community infrastructure,” said Mayor Jeff Leal.

Peterborough Man Wins Over $50,000 In ONTARIO 49 Draw

Peterborough’s John Rowe has won the ONTARIO 49 second prize of $50,000 from the Sept. 27 draw, announced on Thursday.

He also won prizes of $1,000, $750 and $100 on his ONTARIO 49 selections, bringing his total winnings to $51,850.

Rowe said he has been playing the lottery with OLG every week for about 50 years.

“I found out I won at the store, and I was pretty calm,” he said. “It feels great to win,” John continued. “I’ll share this prize with my family, pay some bills, and get started on Christmas shopping.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Jackson Park Convenience on Parkhill Road West in Peterborough.

OLG Issues Second-Quarter Gaming Revenue Payment to Peterborough of $716,653

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has made their second quarter payment totaling $716,653 to the City of Peterborough for hosting Shorelines Casino Peterborough.

The quarter was from July 1 to Sept. 30.

During OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026), Peterborough has received $1,428,934. Since the gaming site opened in October 2018, Peterborough has amassed $16,524,145 according to a press release.

These payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site as stated in a press release. 

“Peterborough is able to offer local programs and improve the quality of life of our residents through the economic activity generated through revenue from Shorelines Casino Peterborough,” said Dave Smith, Peterborough-Kawartha MPP. “The people of Ontario benefit from OLG’s gaming revenues as 100 per cent of OLG profits are reinvested in the province to support provincial priorities.”

Peterborough Man Becomes Millionaire With LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball Draw From Sept. 10

Peterborough’s Clifford Rashotte can call himself a millionaire after winning $1 million from LOTTO 6/49’s Gold Ball Draw on Sept.10, announced on Tuesday.

The 73-year-old has been playing LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX for over 20 years. The father of two and grandfather of one says he plays his own numbers, based on family birthdays and anniversaries.

“I was checking my email while in bed, half-asleep, when I saw a message from OLG,” said Rashotte. “I told myself I didn’t win anything and went back to sleep. When I checked again later, I froze.”

He shared the news with his wife and brother, who didn’t believe it at first.

“It was crazy,” explained Rashotte. “I was just so happy and in total disbelief.”

He says he plans to invest his windfall and complete some home renovations.

“You never think it’ll happen to you until it does,” said Rashotte.

Peterborough Man Hits Top Prize of $50,000 With Instant Cash

Peterborough’s Cody Sears is $50,000 richer after winning a top prize with Instant Cash in Multi-Win, announced on Friday.

The 32-year-old discovered his win while checking his ticket at the store.

“I shared the news with my family and friends, and everyone was so excited for me,” he said.

He plans to save his winnings and will take time to consider how to spend his prize.

“I feel pretty good,” he said. “$50,000 will do just fine.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Mister Convenience on Monaghan Road.

OLG Makes First-Quarter Payment of Over $712,000 to The City of Peterborough

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has made its first-quarter payment of $712,281 to the City of Peterborough for hosting Shorelines Casino Peterborough, announced on Wednesday.

The first quarter ran from April 1 to June 30. Peterborough has received $15,807,492 since the Shorelines opened in October 2018.

These payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site as stated in a press release. 

“OLG is a strong partner that provides substantial benefits to Peterborough,” said Dave Smith, Peterborough-Kawartha MPP. “In addition to the jobs at Shorelines Casino Peterborough, important investments in our local community are made possible through OLG’s sharing of casino revenue.”

Peterborough Woman Wins $77,777 In Instant 7X Multiplier

‘Seven’ is Peterborough’s Lorraine Garvey’s lucky number as she won the top prize of $77,777 with Instant 7X Multiplier.

The retiree has been playing the lottery with OLG for over 30 years. Garvey plays INSTANT tickets, LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49. This was her first major lottery win.

“This ticket was new to me and looked interesting, so I decided to pick one up,” explained Garvey. “I played my ticket right away and scanned it using the OLG app. When the prize amount appeared, I was stunned and thought there had been a mistake. I double-checked my ticket, but sure enough, it was correct!”

After having her ticket validated at the store, Garvey shared the incredible news with her husband when she got home.

“I showed it to him and said, ‘Look what I won!’ He was shocked and very happy for me,” she said. “Later, I called my daughters to tell them about my win, and they were overjoyed.”

She plans to purchase a new car, complete some home renovations, and share with her children.

“It takes a while for a win like this to sink in,” said Garvey. “It came as such a surprise!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Steve’s Quik Chek Variety on Armour Road in Peterborough.

These payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site as stated in a press release. 

“Shorelines Casino Peterborough strengthens our community through sharing gaming revenue that supports local priorities and programs,” said Dave Smith, Peterborough-Kawartha MPP. “In addition to job creation and community support, the Municipality Contribution Agreement with OLG delivers substantial benefits to the people of Peterborough.”

During OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025), Peterborough has received $2,130,706. Since the gaming site opened in October 2018, Peterborough has amassed $14,508,090 according to a press release.

These payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site as stated in a press release. 

“OLG’s Municipality Contribution Agreement payments help pave the way for Peterborough to build critical infrastructure and fund important programs that make a real difference for residents,” said Dave Smith, Peterborough-Kawartha MPP. “Shorelines Casino Peterborough supports numerous jobs and generates a great deal of economic activity that, in turn, improves the well-being of our local community.”

Peterborough Woman Wins $500,000 From OLG's MaxMillions With Online Lottery Ticket

Peterborough Lisa Martini-Dunk has 500,000 more reasons to smile winning $500,000 on MaxMillions in the Oct.15 Lotto Max draw, announced on Thursday.

She was notified by e-mail about her win.

“I logged into my OLG.ca account and thought it said I had won $500,” she said. “Then, I noticed the additional zeros. I felt like I was dreaming and got up to get my glasses so I could see better,” she laughed. “Even then, I didn’t believe it! I asked my family to review the email, and my OLG.ca account. Once we were all convinced the win was real, we were so excited!”

Martini-Dunk has been playing the lottery with OLG for the past few years, with Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 as her preferred games.

“This win feels like freedom. It feels like a gift and a blessing. My heart is full of gratitude,” she said. “I’ll put the rest aside as I figure out my next steps. I may travel and complete some home renovations.”
