Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza with the Peterborough Axe Club and Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation has announced they are hosting the Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza fundraiser May 1st at the Peterborough Axe Club.

In partnership with Herod Financial Services and supported by AON Inc, Kawartha Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (KOMFS), Terra FirmConstruction and Camp Kawartha and Kawartha Gymnastics, the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation will host an evening of friendly axe throwing competition to help enrich the lives of children in our community.

“This event is our largest fundraiser of the year and plays a vital role in helping us send children to summer camp,” said Carrie Truman, Executive Director of the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation. “Camp provides children involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society the opportunity to build self-esteem and confidence, form meaningful connections and spend time just being a kid.”

Over the past 42 years, the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation has sent over 5740 kids to summer camp.

Their goal is to help 150 children involved with the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society attend camp this summer. By participating in the Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza presented by Herod Financial Services, attendees can ensure local at-risk children have the opportunity to experience the joy of camp this summer.

Tickets are available now for $50 per person or $500 per lane. Two axe-throwing time slots are offered on May 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 8 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation (KHCF) are letting kids hack away at fun with their Camp AXE-travaganza fundraising event at the Peterborough Axe Club on May 2, announced on Monday.

“We are so excited for this event. It is our major fundraiser that allows us to provide the summer camp experience to children involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society,” said Carrie Truman, KHCF executive director. “The format of the evening is a family-friendly axe throwing competition, along with food, a photo booth and a silent auction.”

KHCF’s goal is to help 150 children involved with their Aid Society attend camp this summer. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a lane. A third timeslot from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. has been added. Traditional evening sessions are available from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. or 8 to 10 p.m.

The event is in partnership with Herod Financial Services and is supported by AON, Kawartha Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (KOMFS) and Kawartha Gymnastics.

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation, in partnership with Herod Financial Services and supported by AON, Chemong Family Dental, KOMFS, Best Western Plus Otonabee Inn and Paris Marine, are bringing back this fundraising event with a goal to help 200 children involved with the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society attend camp this summer.

2023 is the 40th anniversary of the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation. Since 1983, Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation says they have expanded their scope of support, yet summer camps have remained a priority program. Over the past 40 years, the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation reports they have sent over 5,340 kids to summer camp.

“Summer camp can offer disadvantaged children much more than a vacation. Camp is also an opportunity to connect with new friends, to meet and build relationships with caring adults and counsellors and to get outside and just be a kid,” said Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation in a press release. Our goal is to foster feelings of inclusion and belonging in children and build their self-confidence.”

Those participating in the Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza can help ensure local, at-risk children have the opportunity to experience the joy of camp this summer.

There are two time slots of axe throwing, available May 5 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.-10 p.m. Tickets are available starting Monday for $50 per person and can be purchased online.

One of the best shots ever made at Peterborough Axe Club happened at the Thursday league night when Ken and Amy Smith hit this Robin Hood—and the Bull's Eye at the same time—while practising doubles.

Hitting a "Robin Hood" as Amy did—splitting the ax—is like getting a hole in one in golf or making a full court shot in basketball.
