The Peterborough Petes are continuing to expand their presence in the community, making it easier for fans to find their favourite team’s merchandise beyond the store at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

The latest addition is Real Canadian Superstore, where customers can find a selection of Petes gear while shopping for their everyday essentials.

For Mark Million, Petes Director of Merchandise and Community Growth, the partnership is a natural fit for a team that takes pride in its community connections.

“Real Canadian Superstore has been a league partner with the OHL for a long time, 10 years in the making,” said Million. “They’re a really great partner for us, so it was natural. It was a natural fit.”

That relationship, combined with the Superstore’s commitment to supporting local, helped bring the idea to life. Store Manager Matt Scollard said the opportunity to carry Petes merchandise was an easy decision.

“Here at the Superstore, we love local. I kind of live for it,” said Scollard. “When you think of local, you think of the Peterborough Petes. So we love being able to carry it.”

The result is a prominent display that customers see as they make their way through the store, featuring a selection of Petes merchandise for fans looking to add a little team spirit to their collection.

Scollard said the response has been fantastic, with customers returning to see what new merchandise is available.

“I’ve actually had the opportunity to speak to some customers that I’ve seen here lots of times,” he said. “They come in every day. They look for new product. It’s been fantastic.”

For the Petes, having merchandise available in a grocery store offers a different way to connect with people throughout Peterborough. While the team store at the Memorial Centre is a destination for fans specifically looking for Petes gear, the Superstore gives customers the chance to discover it as part of their regular shopping routine.

“You can come in, you can get your milk and butter and grab a Petes t-shirt,” said Million.

The display also reflects the team’s broader approach to community involvement, bringing the Petes into more local businesses and making the merchandise accessible to a wider audience.

“We’re a community-based club,” said Million. “Our idea, our philosophy is let’s get out into the community.”

He added that the team is happy to work with local businesses interested in carrying its merchandise, with options ranging from clothing and hats to novelty items and stickers.

“If you are a local retailer, and I say Peterborough and the surrounding area, and if you’ve got any interest in Petes merchandise, we have a ton,” said Million. “We can build something for you.”

Businesses interested in carrying Petes merchandise can contact Million at MMILLION@GoPetesGo.com to start a conversation.

For Scollard, the partnership is another opportunity to bring together two important parts of Peterborough’s identity: supporting local businesses and supporting the community’s hockey team.

“The community is the biggest part of the store,” he said. “Community comes first for the Superstore, and getting the opportunity to tie in the community along with the Petes, it just means so much to us.”

Petes merchandise is now available at Real Canadian Superstore at Lansdowne Place Mall in Peterborough, giving fans another convenient place to find their team gear while supporting a club that continues to find new ways to connect with its community.
