The Hawk in control
Christina Abbott and Niki Allday found a hawk with a broken wing on the side of the road on Highway 7 North near Peterborough, and put the injured bird in a box in the back of Niki's Pontiac Vibe while figuring out where to bring it to get medical attention.

Christina Abbott tells PTBOCanada they are now enroute to Champlain Animal Hospital to get the hawk checked out.
The police let her go without a ticket though. "The officer told me to put my seat belt on or I'm going to end up like the hawk."
We'll keep you posted on their crazy day, and the hawk's progress in its treatment and rehabilitation.
[***UPDATE: Sad news, Christina tells us the hospital has determined it has to put the bird down due to its injury. His wing is too broken to fly again. Christina and Niki should be commended for their efforts in trying to save this bird. They named the bird Scott Young, here's why.]

The Peterborough Humane Society reports in a media release that three Shih Tzu’s were found abandoned in an alleyway near the corner of Rubridge and Townsend in the city’s southend.
They were found last night around 3:00 a.m.

The Peterborough Humane Society has posted to their Facebook page about five guinea pig sisters—Hershey, Belinda, Pam, Sunny and Storm—who are looking for their forever home. Spread the word on your social media channels should anyone want a guinea pig—or five!
It's not just humans that go to the Riverview Park & Zoo, animals do too. On Thursday (February 5th), the zoo staff captured these photos below and video of a fox at the zoo. (Apparently, it's a regular visitor.)

Well not exactly. But he is playing with with a big ball made of fire hose at the zoo. The hose was generously donated by the Peterborough Fire Department, and the adorable photo was taken by the Zoo's Animal Care Tech, Sarah Law.
