Lakefield Trent Canal Bridge Reduced to One Lane For Repairs This Tuesday
/The Trent Canal Bridge in Lakefield will be closed to one lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday for repairs.

The repairs are for welding to the expansion joint located on the west side of the Trent Canal Bridge in preparation for upcoming surface asphalt repairs to be completed prior to the end of August.
Traffic flagging operations will be in effect during the repairs.

City to Make Improvements at Roughly 34 Transit Stops
/Peterborough is planning to begin work on improving approximately 34 transit stops throughout the City beginning at the end of this month.

The contractor (Avion Construction Group Inc.) is expected to begin work at these locations between the end of July 2024 and June 2025 and plans to finish in the late summer to early fall next year.
The scope of work includes earth excavation, asphalt and concrete removals, restoration of concrete curbs and sidewalks, asphalt repairs, new concrete transit stop pads, landscaping with topsoil and sod, new transit stop signs and installation of transit stop shelters at select locations.
During construction, flagging operations and/or localized single-lane closures may be required while the work is being performed. As a result, local traffic is expected to experience some delays within the construction limits.

The Contractor mobilized to the location earlier this week. The work is scheduled to be completed by September.
The scope of work includes replacing one section of sanitary sewer along Auburn Street, a section of storm sewer at the intersection of Parkhill Road East and Auburn Street and a section of sanitary sewer will be repaired at the intersection of Armour Road and Parkhill Road East.
Once the sewer work is complete, the impacted areas will be restored. To facilitate this work, traffic may be reduced to one in each direction during the project. Local traffic is expected to experience delays within the construction limits.

Armour Road and Hunter Street Intersection Undergoing Reconstruction to Be Completed In Two to Four Weeks
/The Armour Road and Hunter Street intersection is undergoing construction to facilitate infrastructure improvements.

The intersection has been closed to through traffic since Tuesday, and the City anticipates closing it for two to four weeks with completion by late summer.
Armour Road will be closed to through traffic to facilitate this work until the works are completed. Access for local traffic (destination within the road closure) will be maintained during the closure. However, it is expected that local traffic may experience delays within the construction limits.
The scope of work generally includes the removal of existing infrastructure, earth excavation and grading, the installation of new storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains, concrete curbs and gutters, road base and asphalt road structure, streetlights, sidewalks, tree plantings, pavement markings, and regulatory signage as part of a full-scope road reconstruction.
The reconstruction limits are from Clifton Street to Hunter Street along Armour Road including the Hunter Street and Armour Road intersection.
The City previously awarded the project to Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. The Contractor re-mobilized to this location in March.
Sherbrooke Street to Undergo Sewer Replacements and Spot Repairs; Com
/Sherbrooke Street is undergoing sewer replacements and spot repairs beginning on June 24.

The scope of work includes replacing one section of storm sewer and repairing a section of sanitary sewer on Sherbrooke Street between Medical Drive and Alexander Avenue according to the City of Peterborough.
Once the sewer replacement and repair work is finished, the impacted areas will be restored.
During this time, Sherbrooke Street traffic will experience lane shifts and will be reduced to one dedicated lane in each direction at times. Local traffic is expected to experience delays within the construction limits. There are no road closures scheduled at this time to accommodate the work and is expected to be completed in the fall.
The City has awarded the project to Accurex Inc.
Aylmer Street North will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. to facilitate the work. Signage and detour routes will be posted. Local access to those residing within the closure will be maintained.
Milling and paving operations will be performed during evening and overnight hours to minimize disruption to traffic and businesses. Work will be completed in segments; depending on operational sequencing, weather or other unforeseen issues, properties will only experience disruption for a single night for each milling and paving operation.
The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.

Pavement Cracks To Be Sealed Throughout Peterborough Starting Next Month
/The City of Peterborough will begin pavement preservation and crack sealing throughout various areas beginning next month.

The project is expected to achieve completion in the fall but the City has yet to release a list of locations.
The work includes routing and sealing of cracks in the asphalt pavement surface.
There are no scheduled road closures at this time but traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on collector and arterial roadways and reduced to one lane with the use of flagging operations on local streets according to a press release.

Monaghan Road to Undergo Sewer Replacements and Spot Repairs Starting On the Last Week of May

The storm sewer sections on Monaghan Road are between Lundy’s Lane and Wolfe Street.
Sport work restoration of the affected areas on Monaghan Road will occur after completing the required sewer repair.

Downtown Road Surface Repairs to Begin This Month
/Several downtown streets will receive road surface repairs as repaving work begins in May.

The scope of work includes replacing frames, covers, and grates, curb replacement in select locations, milling, surface paving and pavement markings.
Milling and surface paving work on George Street and Water Street will be performed during evening and overnight hours to minimize disruption to traffic and businesses.
Structure adjustments and select curb and gutter replacements will be completed during daytime working hours in smaller segments to reduce disruption for businesses and traffic. Milling and surface paving operations will be completed by entire segments respective to each operation to minimize associated disruptions as less duration is required during these operations. It is anticipated that adjacent properties will only experience direct disruption for about four to six days, depending on operational sequencing, weather, or other unforeseen issues.
The City of Peterborough is coordinating with the contractor to minimize impacts on summer events planned in downtown.
“Repaving downtown roads is a much-needed improvement in the heart of our city,” said Mayor Jeff Leal. “On behalf of the City and Council, I thank the downtown residents and businesses for their patience while this work is completed. I encourage everyone to visit our excellent local restaurants, cafés and businesses downtown this summer.”
Access to all businesses will remain open during the construction period. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
IPAC Paving Limited is doing the work on behalf of the City and it is scheduled to be completed by fall 2025. As information becomes available, further information will be posted regarding the scheduling of the temporary lane reductions and closures.
Sections of the following streets will be periodically reduced to a single lane of traffic during repaving operations:
George Street between Hunter Street and Sherbrooke Street
Water Street between Simcoe Street and Brock Street
Sheridan Street from Hunter Street to the north limit
Brock Street from Water Street to the east limit
Short-term road closures will be in place on the following roads during milling and surface paving operations in 2024, with detour routes posted:
Brock Street from George Street to Water Street
Simcoe Street between George Street and Water Street
King Street between George Street and Water Street
Some on-street parking will affect certain blocks as operations move through downtown segments. Reduction of on-street parking on any block is expected to last four to six days in any given location. For information on parking garages and surface lots available downtown, please visit peterborough.ca/parking.
Peterborough Utilities will also be conducting water main relining concurrently on other streets in the surrounding area in 2024.
Schedules may change due to delays or inclement weather. Residents and businesses in the area are encouraged to subscribe to the project page for updates on the timelines for specific road closures, lane reductions and additional road surface repair locations to be completed next year at peterborough.ca/repaving.

Parks Canada to Complete Annual Maintenance On Several Peterborough Bridges
/Parks Canada will complete annual maintenance on three bridges in the City of Peterborough this spring.

The bridges will be temporarily closed to all traffic while maintenance is underway.
The following one-day closures will be in effect:
Maria Street bridge: Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Parkhill Road East swing bridge: Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
McFarlane Street bridge: Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
