12th Annual Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival June 9th
/Peterborough will be hosting their 12th Annual Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, June 9th. The event is a way of offering awareness and support, and serves as a fundraiser for the Breast Assessment Centre at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Practices have already started for the teams out on Little Lake who all get one 1 hour practice to get ready for the big day!

Great Video Promoting Non-Profit Organization Wounded Warriors Canada
/Here's a video for Wounded Warriors Canada, a not-for-profit that supports war veterans through many different programs and events. Mental illness (like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is difficult to treat when you don't know you are suffering, or are afraid to talk about it. This video hopes to help change the attitude toward mental illness within the military and among Canadians.

PTBOCanada Pics: Peterborough Bikefest

Cooler weather and the chance of rain didn't stop people from heading down to Millennium Park in Peterborough for Bikefest 2012 yesterday. Local shops Wild Rock and B!ke: The Community Cycling Hub were there to help give free tune-ups for bicycles.
Free swag and information about safer cycling were abundant, as well as lots of chat about future plans that the City of Peterborough hopes to implement to make for a more cycling-friendly city.

PTBOPics: Police Week Booth At Lansdowne Place

This week is Police Week and you can learn more by popping into Landsowne Place and chatting with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police at their booth. Each day of the week focuses on a different aspect that police services provide in the community. There are prizes to be won, such as a USB memory stick, a kid's jersey signed by Mark Savard and a bicycle. Also pick up pamphlets such as The Canadian Edition of the Little Black Book of Scams to help learn to identify fraud.
