One listening session of Peterborough's Kate Suhr and her undeniable musical talent and you just know you’re witnessing a star in the making. Whether it be at a local open mic, or on stage at Showplace, the extremely gifted musician always puts on a memorable performance. Kate, a former PCVS Grad, and Humber College vocal student, is one of many local talents working hard around Peterborough polishing their skills with the desire of making a career out of it—even if the road is a long and tough one. A regular cast member in Peterborough Theatre Guild productions, Kate is soon leaving our community to move to Toronto to pursue her dream of singing and acting full time! Before she leaves, though, she is working on one last incredible locally themed project: a duet series with people that have influenced her life in this city she loves—those that she has looked up to, has gigged with, learned from, created art with, taught, etc. Sit back and take a listen to these below... —Aaron Elliott

Where Is My Mom? Watch & Share A Daughter's Emotional Appeal To Find Her Missing Mom Lorraine Roach

MIssing Peteborough woman Lorraine Roach

Peterborough's Lorraine Roach went missing in May 2013, and her family has been desperately trying to find her ever since. It was a call to wish her mom a happy Mother’s Day last year that alerted her daughter Jennifer DeBernardi to the fact that her mother was missing, CBC reports. Lorraine Roach never returned her call.

Lorraine's minivan was found at the side of Lily Lake Rd., west of Peterborough—an area she would commonly use to go back and forth from the city to her home. But Lorraine herself has never been found, seemingly vanishing without a trace.

On October 14, 2014, Peterborough County OPP did a ground search of an area in Selwyn Township, prompted by a tip. They didn't find anything and won't comment on whether foul play is suspected but acknowledge that Roach's disappearance is now a criminal investigation.

There is a "Lorraine Roach Missing" page on Facebook and now CBC's The Fifth Estate has become involved, bringing national attention to this case.

CBC are also sharing an emotional plea video from Jennifer DeBernardi on the CBC News YouTube channel in the hopes someone will come forward with tips. If you have any information on this case, contact Peterborough County OPP at 705.742.0401. Watch and share Jennifer's video below on your social media channels...

Meet The 23 Year Old Peterborough Guy Who Founded Popular Leafs Site MapleLeafsHotStove.com

Leafs player Nazem Kadri is a big fan of Alec's website

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you know that the NHL season is back with a vengeance with local favourites the Toronto Maple Leafs dominating the headlines as per usual. Love them or hate them, everyone knows about the Blue and White. They are all over the television and radio as they always have been, and now more than ever the internet—and social media—is full of Leafs fever, too.

Alec Brownscombe with Johnny Bower

Alec Brownscombe with Johnny Bower

The guy behind one of the internet's leading independent Maple Leafs based websites, MapleLeafsHotStove.com (MLHS), is actually born and raised in Peterborough. His name is Alec Brownscombe, and at only 23 years of age, he has already been running the mega popular site for six years—which he originally started to simply express his joys and frustrations about his favourite franchise.

MLHS focuses on game reviews, player info, and the increasingly sought after analytics—"money puck"—side of the game, and has been cited over the years by the likes of The Globe & Mail, The National Post, The Toronto Star, USA Today, Yahoo! Sports, NBC Sports, TSN, Sportsnet, Grantland and more.

The website has grown and now has seven regular contributors (including frequent writer Anthony Petrielli from Richmond Hill).

A history grad from Trent University, Alec grew up in the rinks around Peterborough with his brothers both playing and watching the great game nonstop. With his love for hockey continuously growing, he took to the internet as a way to chat with fellow fans about the ins and outs of the game. This introduced him to numerous sites where he eventually became a contributor before he decided to venture off on his own in 2008 and founded MLHS at age 17.

Over the years with the expansion of MapleLeafsHotStove.com, Alec has put more and more time into its growth and has learned the ins and outs of both the sport itself and the business side of operations as well. As a reader, he found the media landscape for Leaf coverage to be completely toxic, and thought his blog could provide a perspective that—while both insightful and critical—could offer some hope to its readers that the Leafs could one day get better. And it's working as the website is a hit—attracting more than 6 million page views last year alone.

Over the years as the site has grown in popularity and influence, Alec and his team have had a chance to interact with many members of the Leafs—including both management and players. If you’re a fan of the Maple Leafs, make sure to check out MapleLeafsHotStove.com if you haven't yet. You can also follow them on Twitter and on their Facebook page.
