Peterborough Petes Roll With Four-Game Win Streak After Defeating the Oshawa Generals

The Petes are on their biggest win streak of the season with four after defeating the rival Oshawa Generals 6-2 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Tuesday night.

The home team wasted no time getting on the board as Brennan Faulkner was the recipient of a puck that squeezed out from a board battle and he one-timed it home for a 1-0 lead just 1:46 in. Peterborough kept attacking as Leon Kolarik tried to dump the puck but it went off a General and back on his stick. He fired it from the high slot and scored to make it 2-0 for the Petes at the end of the first period.

Peterborough forced a turnover in their defensive zone and had an outnumbered counterattack. Adam Novotný fed Matthew Soto and he scored to give the Petes a 3-0 lead. Nearly six-and-a-half minutes later, Oshawa found themselves back in the game as Lucas Moore and Onni Kalto scored to bring the Generals to within one after two periods.

The Petes first-overall pick in this year’s priority selection made himself heard as he won the faceoff draw. He stickhandled past several General defenders and scored on an impressive individual effort to give Peterborough a 4-2 lead.

The Petes cleared the puck into the Generals zone and immediately applied pressure. The forecheck worked with hustle from Faulkner who passed it Aiden Young for a goal from the slot to make it 5-2. Faulkner added an empty-netter for his third point of the night and the Petes handily defeat Oshawa 6-2 to continue their hot streak.

The Petes remain at home for their next game against the Sarnia Sting this thursday at the Peterborough Memorial Centre for 7:05 p.m.

Peterborough Petes Trade Forward For Two Draft Picks From Owen Sound

The Peterborough Petes have acquired a third-round pick in 2026 (Ottawa) and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2028 (Kingston) from Owen Sound in exchange for 2007-born forward Caden Taylor, announced on Tuesday.

“On behalf of the Petes, I’d like to thank Caden for his time here in Peterborough,” said Michael Oke, Petes general manager and vice president of operations. “We wish him the best of luck as he continues his OHL career in Owen Sound.”

The Shanty Bay forward was originally selected by the Sudbury Wolves in the first round, ninth overall, in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. He has appeared in 134 games across parts of three seasons with the Wolves and Petes, scoring 28 goals and adding 29 assists for 57 points.

This past summer, he participated in the Pittsburgh Penguins Development Camp.

The Petes host the rival Oshawa Generals for their Remembrance Day Game in support of Wounded Warriors Canada on Tuesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Trent Excalibur Men’s Lacrosse Stunned In Baggataway Cup After Major Comeback From Brock Badgers

The Trent Excalibur men’s lacrosse team faced major heartbreak as the Brock Badgers mounted a comeback from a seven-goal deficit for a 13-12 game in the Baggataway Cup at the Terry Fox Stadium on Friday night.

The quarterfinal matchup saw a closely contested first period as Nick Fornier opened the scoring for Trent. After allowing two goals from the Badgers, Mason Tardiff regained Trent’s lead with a pair of scores for a 3-2 game after the first.

In the second frame, the Excalibur allowed two more goals from the Badgers but Fornier and Tardiff kept scoring as well. Both earned hat tricks this stanza as Fornier scored three goals, totalling four, while Tardiff scored once, his third of the game, to make it 7-4.

After allowing a Badger goal to open the third period, Trent went on a five-goal run to extend their lead to 12-5. Jordan Dool, Reed Chamberlin, Will White and Connor Curtis (twice) scored in the run.

Unfortunately for Peterborough, they received unsportsmanlike penalties which gave momentum to the Badgers. They rang off three straight power-play goals to start closing the gap. Brock scored one more goal to end the period 12-9 in favour of Trent.

Brock continued the pressure in the final stanza as they shut down Peterborough’s offense and scored two goals, the first on the power play. With 5:20 left in regulation, Colton Armitage scored the game-tying goal for the Badgers to make it 12 apiece going into overtime.

In extra time, both teams had opportunities to score. In the end, Noah Simonelli launched a shot from a wide angle, beating Trent goaltender Callan Baker to cap off the miraculous comeback from the Badgers to win 13-12.

The Badgers moved on to the semifinals as Trent was sent home with a quarterfinal finish.

Peterborough Petes Fight Off Comeback Bid and Escape With Road Win Over Sudbury

The Peterborough Petes almost saw the Sudbury Wolves make a huge comeback but they were able to hold on for the 5-4 victory at the Sudbury Community Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Peterborough wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Yanis Lutz took a drop pass from Leon Kolarik and roofed one home to make it 1-0 just 67 seconds in. With 87 seconds left in the period, Colin Fitzgerald chipped a puck to himself from the defensive zone. He opted for the solo mission going end-to-end and scored short side for a 2-0 lead going into the second period.

The Petes kept their feet on the gas pedal and struck again early in the second period. Aiden Young entered the offensive zone with numbers and scored from the high slot for a 3-0 lead. Just under four minutes later, Matthew Perreault thought he scored from a point shot but it went off the post. However, Adam Novotný picked up the loose puck and scored on the wraparound for a 4-0 Petes lead.

Sudbury got on the board six minutes later and made it 4-1 thanks to Rowan Henderson on the power play. Peterborough’s forecheck caused a turnover in Sudbury’s defensive zone and immediately capitalized as Young fired it from the point and scored for a 5-1 game going into the final frame.

The home team was not going to go away quietly as Nathan Villneuve scored just past the halfway mark of the period. Sudbury struck again 31 seconds later after an Artem Gonchar goal and the lead was down to two. Henderson scored his second of the game for the Wolves to pull to within one goal in the final 2:31 of regulation.

The Wolves had peppered Petes goaltender Easton Rye with 12 shots in the period, totalling 38 but could not find the back of the net one more time and Peterborough escapes Sudbury with a 5-4 win.

Fleming College Hosting Its 41 Annual Loggersports Competition On Nov. 29

The Fleming College Phoenix lumberjacking skills are being put to the test as they are hosting their 41st annual Loggersports competition on Nov. 29 at the Lindsay Frost Campus.

Admission is free and open to anyone with a ‘cookie cut’ opening ceremony starting at 8 a.m. The competition begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 4:30 p.m. Events include log throwing, wood chopping, pole climbing and axe throwing.

Both the Phoenix men’s and women’s loggersports A teams placed first overall at a recent competition at the University of New Brunswick.

Trent Excalibur Men’s Lacrosse Punch Ticket to Baggataway Cup After Win Over Carleton

The Trent Excalibur men’s lacrosse team is heading back to the Baggataway Cup after defeating the 12–7 victory over the Carleton Ravens at Justin Chiu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win capped off Excalibur’s season with an 8–2 record, finishing second place in the East Division with 16 points.

The Excalibur wasted no time asserting themselves on the field, jumping out to an early lead. Mason Tardif opened the scoring early in the first quarter.

Trent continued to build momentum in the second quarter with goals from Dallyn Rai, Reed Chamberlain and another from Tardif, giving the Excalibur a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

Carleton fought back in the third, scoring three quick goals to narrow the gap and make it a one-goal game. Trent’s offense continued to roll again with four straight tallies, two from Adam Hawrelak, one from Tardif and another from Rai.

In the final frame, Trent kept their foot on the gas pedal as Tardif notched his fourth goal of the game off a feed from Rai, followed by goals from Jordan Dool, Nick Fournier and Keegan Detweiler to clinch their playoff spot. 

Following the game, Curtis Conley was presented with the Peterborough Glass and Windows Player of the Game Award, recognizing his six-year career with the team. 

Trent hits the 2025 Baggataway Cup at Terry Fox Stadium in Brampton this Friday in a three-day event.

Peterborough Petes Partner with MADD Canada For Thursday's Game Against Brantford

Drunk driving awareness is being spread for Thursday night as the Peterborough Petes have partnered with MADD Canada for their game against the Brantford Bulldogs.

A fundraiser is being set up to support the victims and survivors of impaired driving.

Activations for the game will include in-game reads, a MADD Canada concourse booth, a ceremonial puck drop, videoboard commercials and a pass-the-bucket with proceeds in support of MADD Canada.

Puck drop against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC.

2026 OHL Top Prospects Game Ticket Details Released

Ticket details for the 2026 OHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 14 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre have been released.

They go on sale Nov. 12 at 10 a.m., with presale for relevant parties beginning on Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. A link to purchase tickets will become active at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12. 

The game will feature some of the top prospects for the 2026 NHL Draft taking the ice at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Rosters for the game will be selected by NHL Member Teams and NHL Central Scouting to be announced in mid-December.

The inaugural showcase brought close to 200 NHL scouts out to see the Ontario Hockey League’s rising stars on display in an East vs. West format, one decided in favour of the Eastern Conference on an overtime goal by Peterborough’s own Porter Martone of the Brampton Steelheads.

The Petes remain at home for their next game on Thursday. They will host the Brantford Bulldogs with puck drop for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC.

U11 Kawartha Lacrosse Girls Bring Home Silver At Sixes Provincial Tournament

The performance marked the first time Kawartha Lacrosse has fielded a team in the Sixes format.

Kawartha Lacrosse’s small roster included three underage players from the U9 division. The U11 team demonstrated exceptional skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the tournament said coach Tara King.

“It has been rewarding to watch these young athletes grow as teammates and competitors throughout our inaugural sixes season,” she said. “The girls consistently demonstrated outstanding work ethic and a positive attitude — both of which were key to our success. Also, coaching alongside my former Kawartha Lacrosse teammates with our daughters on the field made this season especially meaningful.”

Peterborough Petes Squeeze Out Victory After Trailing Over Kingston Frontenacs

The Peterborough Petes squeezed out a win over Kingston Frontenacs after a multi-goal deficit to earn a 4-3 victory at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (PMC) on Saturday night.

The first period belonged to Kingston, as Jacob Battaglia and Kieren Dervin scored to give the Frontenacs a 2-0 lead. Peterborough led in shots 11-8, but it was the visitors who had the lead.

Peterborough had a chance early in the second period as they drew an interference penalty 27 into the frame. Adam Novotný took a one-timed shot but sailed high over the net. Braydon McCallum recovered the loose puck, fed Novotný for a second one-timer chance and buried it home to put the Petes on the board from the man advantage, 2-1.

Peterborough went on the attack again as a point shot went wide and Kingston goaltender Matthew Minchac tried to dive on a loose puck that bounced off the half-wall. He failed to cover it as it wound up on Adam Levac’s stick to a wide-open net and he scored to tie the game. Kingston regained the lead 1:34 later as Robin Kuzma one-timed it in the slot for a 3-2 game. Peterborough would not go away, as at 2:02, Aiden Young, on a wide-angle, did a spin-o-rama centring pass on the backhand and his prayer was answered with a Levac tip-in goal to tie the game at three.

Levac had a chance to get the hat trick as was awarded a penalty shot late in the period. He tried to go forehand at point-blank range but was stopped by Minchac to keep it a 3-3 game going into the final period.

Less than four minutes into the period, Braydon McCallum won a faceoff for Peterborough. Gens Ula did not waste any time as he immediately fired the puck when it drew back to him for a go-ahead goal. It was 4-3, the Petes’s first lead of the night. The home team clamped down defensively, only allowing seven shots in the third period with none finding the back of the net. That was enough to secure the 4-3 win over the visiting Kingston Frontenacs.

The Petes remain at home for their next game on Thursday. They will host the Brantford Bulldogs with puck drop for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC.
