Help The Casey Family Near Keene Recover After A Devastating Barn Fire

A huge fire tore through a large barn just west of Keene Sunday afternoon (October 18th), destroying the barn and all contents inside it. The barn is owned by the Casey family and was the home to three beautiful horses—Dallas, Texas and Nikki, who all survived thankfully.

Family friend Kayla Spittal tells PTBOCanada that Danielle Casey is the owner of these horses, and that her father James owns the farm on County Rd 2.

"With this tragedy comes very sad emotions," Kayla tells PTBOCanada. "Not only is it a family farm but Danielle and her deceased mother Cindy used to care for the animals. It was their mother-daughter time—cherished time together. When her mother passed, Danielle and her father James became the primary care givers for Dallas, Texas and Nikki."

Kayla is asking the community to pull together to help this family out.

"We are looking for donations or even just a loan of the items needed to help care for these animals," she tells PTBOCanada. "A few things that are needed to help are all types of brushes, lead chains, halters, saddles, outside blankets for under the saddles, salt blocks, hay, straw, grains, apples, mints, carrots, crunch—even down to some basic medications such as sprays for wounds to help with infections."

"Everything that these horses ever needed was inside that barn, as well as items that can never be replaced as they hold so much sentimental value," Kayla adds.

The family resides at 3043 County Rd 2 Keene—donations may be dropped off there. For more info on how to help, contact Kayla here.

Peterborough Utilities Reporting Scam Alert

During the past week, Peterbororough Police have received a number of complaints from concerned citizens about a Peterborough Utilities (PUC) representative calling saying they had an overdue account that needed to be settled.

Here's how the scam works...

1. People were asked on the phone to obtain a money order and send it to a provided address.
2. A phone number is provided and when called, it is answered by a "Hydro Billing Dept".

This is not a legitimate phone number or PUC representative, police say. This scam has also been reported in Toronto, Whitby and Thunder Bay.

PUC has also tweeted out about the scam, warning the public...

Please share on your social media channels.

Here Are Headlines About Peterborough From The 1920s and 1930s

Trent Valley Archives gave the Peterborough Chamber a really interesting gift recently—a Word document called the "Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Scrap Book". The scrapbook is a list of some of the events, speeches, elections and advocacy issues between the years 1928 and 1937 in Peterborough.

The community of the late '20s, early '30s was concerned with bringing people and business to the area, along with brainstorming ways to showcase Peterborough to the world—in other words, very similar to today.

Peterborough's Music Class Of 2015 Photo

A Peteborough Class of 2015 Facebook page has been set up inviting anyone involved in the Peterborough music industry/community together for a group photo to celebrate this city's amazing music scene.

Other communities have done similar group photos to celebrate their success and showcase their talent to the world.

A date has not been set yet but organizers are looking at doing this possibly later this month, to get everyone in one spot at one time. The event is 100 percent inclusive and anyone who was worked in any capacity in the music community here from bands to sound engineers to graphic designers to PR folk are invited.

Learn more on the Facebook page, and spread the word!

Great idea!!

The power went out at the Memorial Centre during the singing of O Canada by Missy Knott and her little brother Josh at Sunday night's Peterborough Lakers game, and the crowd stepped in. Amazing.

Watch some videos captured on Twitter below, as well as other tweets describing the fan reaction...

Oh, and the power did kick back on before the anthem ended—and the Lakers went on to power their way to a 7-5 victory over Oakville to take a 1-0 lead in the Best of 7 playoff series.
