Man Arrested After Holding Knife To A Person's Throat Downtown

Man with Knife Arrested:
 
During the early morning hours of the 2nd of September 2011 Peterborough Lakefield Police responded to the corner of Charlotte and George Street regarding a male with a knife.  The accused began an argument with a group of pedestrians on the corner of Charlotte and George.  The argument escalated when the accused pulled a 4 inch bladed knife from his pocket and held it to the victims throat.  The accused was distracted by another pedestrian allowing the victim to alert police.  Upon arrest police located the knife and stolen identification on the accused.  As a result of the charges the accused was breaching two probation orders by not keeping the peace and being of good behaviour.  Arrested is  21 year old Jake Coppoway of Curve Lake.  Coppoway has been held for court on the 2nd of September on the charges of Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, and two charges of Breaching Probation.

If Charged With Public Intoxication, It's Not A Good Idea To Plug The Toilet And Cause A Flood At Police Station

Drunk in public leads to mischief charge:
 
On the 31st of August 2011 Peterborough Lakefield Police responded to an intoxicated female at the corner of Charlotte and St. Joseph St.  The female was subsequently arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and was held at the police station to sober up.  During her stay the female plugged the toilet in the cell and continually flushed it causing the water to overflow and flood her cell and the surrounding area.  Charged with Mischief under $5000.00 is 46 year old Diane Borowski of Peterborough.  Borowski was held for a bail hearing on the 1st of September 2011 to begin the process to determine her guilt or innocence.

A Man Has Died After Being Stabbed On Stewart Street Last Night

[UPDATED 5:29 p.m. Charges have now been laid in the stabbing death. See below]

The victim in this matter has been identified as 21-year-old Matt COURNEYA from Omemee.

Charged in this matter are:
 
1)  Tara SANDERSON, 19 years of Wallace Dr., Peterborough
     Charged:  2nd Degree Murder and Breach of Y.O. Probation
 
2)  Aaron KIMBALL (Male), 19 years from Larmer Line, Millbrook
     Charged:  Accessory After Fact to Murder
 
3)  Lori-Ann LAURIER, 18 years from Lansdowne St., Peterborough
     Charged:  Accessory After Fact to Murder, Utter Threats
 
4)  Tori-Lace NOLAN, 18 years from Cameron St., Peterborough
     Charged:  Accessory After Fact Murder, Obstruct Justice

All of the above mentioned individuals will be appearing in court in the morning of 01 September.

From Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service...

On 30 August 2011 at approximately 11:57 PM, the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service were called to attend a residence on Stewart Street regarding a stabbing.  It was determined that a 21-year-old male had been stabbed with a yet to be determined sharp instrument.  Paramedics rushed the male to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, where he succumbed to his injury.  The name of the male is not being released at this time as all of his family members have not been notified.  There have been no arrests at this time as Police continue to investigate this Homicide.

If there is anyone that has information pertaining to this investigation, they are asked to contact Detective Constable Sean Nusink or Crime Stoppers.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Man Breaks Into Ex-Girlfriend's House, Assaults Her & Takes Their 2 Year Old Child (Child Has Been Found Safe)

On 30Aug11 at 3:00am, , a 19 year old Peterborough male broke into his ex girlfriend's residence on Park Place, assaulted her and took their 2 year old child.  The male was located and arrested a short time later. The 2 year old child was located unharmed and returned to his mother.  A 19 year old Peterborough male has been charged with assault, break and enter and 3 counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody.

On 24Aug2011 at approx 0100 am Police responded to an alarm call at Costco. Officers discovered that suspects had broken open a large jewelry case and removed a large assortment of various jewelry worth in excess of $63 000.00.

Items that were taken are as follows:
14 KT White Gold Pendant, 14KT Diamond Earrings,14 KT Diamond Ring,  14 KT Diamond Necklace,  14 KT Diamond 5 Stone Band, Diamond Ring , Platinum Diamond Wedding Set, 14 KT Diamond Solitaire, 14 KT Diamond Ring, 18 KT Round Wedding Set, 14 KT White Gold Diamond Necklace, 14 KT Necklace, Platinum Set, 14 KT Bracelet 7”, Diamond Ring Round, Diamond Trinity, 0.98 ct Stud Earring, 18 KT Diamond Earring, 18 KT Pink Sapphire Diamond Bracelet, 18 KT Diamond Round Ring, 18 KT White Gold Diamond Stud, 14 KT Diamond Hoop Earrings , 14 KT Diamond Solitaire Ring.

Police Remind You To Keep Your Residences Secure After A Series Of Break And Enters

Sometime between 11:30 pm on August 26th, 2011 and 7:00 am on the 27th unknown person(s) entered an insecure residence on Ravenwood Drive, Peterborough.  The resident reported  the break-in during the morning when her purse was discovered in the laneway, with approximately $30.00 stolen.
 
Also over night on August 26th-27th between  11:00 pm and 3:00 am a Cottonwood Drive residence was entered via a sliding kitchen window.  Once inside, the culprit(s) stole the homeowners wallet and an iPod.  The approximate value of theft was $250.00.
 
During the course of investigating the Cottonwood Drive incident, police came upon two Maple Crescent residences that had entry attempted through side windows.  At both of these locations the window screens were forced but the windows were secure, preventing entry.
 
The police are asking any one with information to contact 705-876-1122 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
 
Police would also like to remind everyone to be mindful of keeping their residences secure.  Break-ins and Thefts similar to these occurrences can happen very quickly, and at all hours of the day.  Further, if you observe any suspicious person, or activity in your neighbourhood please contact police immediately.

Two More Cowards Charged After Assaulting Their Girlfriends

(EDITOR'S NOTE: virtually everyday, these types of domestics turn up in police reports)

1. Man charged with assaulting girlfriend.
 
On the 25th of August at approximately 645 pm police responded to a domestic at a McDonnel Street address.  The female victim was observed to be bleeding from the nose when police arrived.  Investigation revealed that her 49 yr old boyfriend had punched her, hit her over the head with a folding chair and threatened to kill her.  The male was arrested at the scene and has been held in custody for court on the 26th of August 2011. He is charged with assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. The victim did not require medical attention.
 
2. Man charged with assaulting girlfriend arrested in Oshawa.
 
On the 24th of August 2011 a female attended Durham Regional Police to report an assault that occurred in Peterborough at her residence on Stewart Street.  The incident had occurred on the 23rd of August.  The information was passed onto Peterborough Lakefield Police to continue the investigation.  The victim and her 39 year old boyfriend had been involved in an argument that resulted in the boyfriend pushing the victim, grabbing her by the throat and kicking her.  She did not require medical attention.  On the 25th of August, the boyfriend was arrested in the Oshawa area and he has been returned to Peterborough for court on the 26th of August 2011. He is charged with assault and breach of probation.

A Routine Traffic Stop In Peterborough Leads To 10 Charges

Traffic stop leads to arrest:

On the 22nd of August 2011 Peterborough Lakefield Police conducted a routine traffic stop in the area of Reid St. and Sherbrooke St.  The driver of the vehicle attempted to elude detection by giving a false name to the officers.  Investigation quickly revealed the true identity of the driver.  As a result 25 year old Shawn Cromwell of Peterborough has been charged with the following offences:  Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.00, Possession of Marihuana Under 30 grams, Obstruct Police, Breach of Probation, Drive While Under Suspension, Drive Without a Licence, Use Plates Not Authorized For Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, Use Validation Not Furnished For Vehicle and Possess Illegal Licence.  Cromwell was held in custody for a bail hearing on the 23rd of August 2011 to begin the process to determine his guilt or innocence.
