Stabbing Incident Results In Man Taken Into Custody; Victim Suffered Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

One man is in custody after an alleged stabbing incident at a residence on Thursday morning.

At roughly 8:07 a.m., officers were called to the Sherbrooke Street and Park Place area. They learned upon arrival that one man suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound. He was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, was treated and released. 

A member of the K9 unit was called in and successfully tracked a man in the area of Park Street and Parnell Street and took him into custody.

The investigation is ongoing and the police have no further details at this time according to a press release.

Peterborough Police Make Arrest For First-Degree Murder From Late-Night Homicide Last Tuesday

Peterborough Police have arrested 32-year-old William Weir and charged him with first-degree murder after the homicide of Jacob Jansen late on last Tuesday night.

At roughly 10:45 a.m. on Monday, Investigative Services Division arrested the Peterborough man.

Weir is being held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

“The Peterborough Police Service would like to recognize the hard work and many hours our detectives have put into identifying the individual, gathering and validating the evidence that culminated in the arrest,” says Chief Stuart Betts. “This arrest was greatly helped by the presence of the CCTV cameras in our downtown core.”

On Tuesday, officers received a call for service from the George Street and Charlotte Street area around 11:30 p.m.

They arrived to find a male suffering from a stab wound.  The male was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre where he succumbed to his injury. 

The family of the victim has been made aware of the arrest.

Two Suspects Being Sought From Alleged Thursday Night Home Invasion

The Peterborough Police Service is looking for two people after two home invasions within minutes of each other early Thursday evening.

At roughly 5:30 p.m., officers were called to a Bethune Street and King Street area residence. When they arrived, officers learned that two separate units had been entered. In one case, the homeowners reported that two men had entered the apartments armed with handguns and demanding money. One victim was allegedly struck with the handgun before the suspects fled.

A second unit was also allegedly entered and appeared to be ransacked. The homeowners were not home at the time. 

The suspects were described as:

Suspect #1:

  • Male, black

  • Approximately 6’3” in height, stocky build, approximately 200 lbs.

  • Grey hooded sweatshirt (hood up) with dangling drawstrings, black sweatpants with a white logo on left upper thigh, black face mask, black and white running shoes.

Suspect #2:

  • Male, black

  • Approximately 5’7” - 5’9” in height, thin build, approximately 150 lbs.

  • Black hooded zip-up hoodie (hood up), black track pants, black shoes, black face mask, grey satchel slung to left side.

Peterborough Police Service Identifies 27-Year-Old Homicide Victim From Late Tuesday Night

The Police Service has identified Tuesday night’s homicide victim as 27-year-old Jacob Jansen of Peterborough announced on Friday morning.

Police received permission from his family prior to releasing his identity according to a press release.

On Tuesday, Chief Stuart Betts provided updates regarding the investigation.

It is still ongoing and police continue to appeal to the public to come forward with any information.

Peterborough Man Charged With Assault For Spitting On a Peace Officer

A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing an assault charge for spitting on a Peace officer from a Wednesday evening incident.

At roughly 7 p.m., officers were called to a residence in the Armour Road and Parkhill Road East area about a domestic incident. When they arrived, officers got a second call about the same man and located him outside of the residence. They attempted to calm him down but he kept showing aggressive behaviour according to a press release.

When officers tried to take him into custody, the accused spat at an officer during the arrest.

The 21-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault a peace officer

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 12.

Peterborough Police Continue to Investigate George Street Homicide; Suspect Remains at Large

Peterborough Police Service are continuing their investigation of a homicide of a man from a stabbing incident late on Tuesday while the suspect remains at large, announced at a press conference in Downtown Peterborough on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim was in his late 20s and suffered a stab wound in the George Street and Charlotte Street area at roughly 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He was taken to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre and succumbed to his injuries according to Stuart Betts, Peterborough Police chief.

The police were searching for the suspect after discovering the victim. The suspect remains at large and no weapon has been found at that time.

“Our officers also searched Fleming Park and Brock Street area, in the area of Alymer Street as part of our investigation,” said Betts.

When asked if the text encampment was associated with the incident, Betts said that police are currently investigating but have yet to make a connection, if any.

“That's part of what we're exploring right now is to identify what if any connection there is,” explained Betts. “That's the reason our investigators are in that area.”

It has yet to be established if there is any connection between the victim and the alleged suspect according to the Police.

Betts continued to support the CCTV that was installed in Downtown Peterborough on July 31. He said the incident was picked up on their cameras and will determine if the footage will be publicly released to aid in their investigation.

“Sadly, this incident is entirely what this CCTY program is intended to do,” explained Betts. “I’m just disappointed that we're having to employ it so soon after launching this particular program but for anybody who doubted the value of adding CCTV cameras to our downtown, this will help to hopefully dissuade those fears and concerns.”

Peterborough Police Investigating Midnight Homicide; Officer Presence In Fleming Park

Peterborough Police presense is currently at Fleming Park near Brock Street and Aylmer Street as a homicide investigation is being conducted from a midnight incident on Wednesday morning.

Police received the call from the George Street and Charlotte Street area and is undergoing an investigation regarding the incident. Roads in the area are not affected at this time.

Peterborough Police Make Two Weapon Arrests On Saturday

The Peterborough Police Service have made two arrests from two seperate weapon incidents that occured on Saturday.

A 31-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges from an early Saturday morning incident.

At roughly 12:30 a.m., officers were called to the George and King Street area at a business where a patron had allegedly attempted to enter with what was thought to be a handgun. The man had initially been denied entry but had later returned without the weapon. Officers were directed to the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident.  During a search of the suspect after arrest officers located:

  • Three grams of cocaine

  • Drug paraphernalia

Through further investigation officers located and seized a black BB gun in a nearby parking garage. 

As a result, a 31-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 22.

An 18-year-old City of Kawartha Lakes woman is facing several charges from a Saturday evening incident

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, officers were called to Crescent Street in Peterborough about reports of an altercation between two groups of girls. When officers arrived, they learned that several people were struck with bear spray and then the woman drew what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at the other girls before fleeing into a crowd of people. 

Officers eventually spotted a woman matching the description given to them. A search of her bag revealed a replica handgun, a can of bear spray as well as 3.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine, other drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Pointing a Firearm

  • Carrying concealed weapon X2

  • Possession of imitation weapon for Dangerous Purpose X2

  • Traffick in Schedule I substance - Methamphetamines (Crystal Meth)

  • Traffick in Schedule III substance- Other Drugs (LSD)

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday.

19-Year-Old Man Arrested On Three Breaking and Entering Charges

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with three separate break-and-enters to Peterborough businesses over the past several weeks, reported by the Peterborough Police Service on Friday afternoon.

On July 20, July 29 and July 30, officers responded to break-and-enter incidents at three businesses in the Chemong Road and Wolsely Street area. All cases resulted in a broken window to gain entry. Officers conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and located a number of items reported missing on Friday.

The 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with:

  • Break, Enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence x3

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Peterborough Police Investigating Incident Involving a Person Using Bear Mace and Striking a Young Girl

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating a Wednesday night incident involving a pedestrian using bear mace at a vehicle and striking a young girl on Wednesday night.

At roughly 9:30 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of George Street and Perry Street. When they arrived, they learned that a woman and her two children were waiting at the intersection in their vehicle and witnessed a teenage girl almost get hit by another vehicle. 

The woman cried out in surprise and sparked an argument with the pedestrian who then sprayed bear mace at the woman’s vehicle striking a young girl in the car according to the Police. The girl was treated at the scene by Peterborough Paramedics. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the teenager.
