PTBOCanada Featured Post: The Canadian Lease Abstractor

For Mili Mezei, real estate and all of its facets are a passion. The career professional has worked in so many different areas of it that one would forgive her if she forgot a few of them!

Born and raised in Toronto, Mili grew up in a typical European home with newly emigrated parents to Canada. She attended York University where she graduated with a major in French Linguistics. A few years down the road, she became a paralegal and started working on the legal side of things at a Law Firm specializing in residential real estate.

As a paralegal, Mili had also become a Commissioner of Oaths, which was very beneficial to her down the road. A mother of two, Mili has worked with tenants, landlords, lenders, land development, franchising, facility management and property management. During this time, Mili began working on her real license. She obtained her real estate license, specializing in commercial properties (while also working with residential properties).

In 2012 she moved to Peterborough, and all of her experiences came to a head in 2013, where with the help of Peterborough Economic Development's Business Advisory Centre Mili started her lease abstracting business The Canadian Lease Abstractor as an added service to her already successful commercial sales and leasing career. With her legal and real estate background combined with big city experience, she was excited to bring this unique service to Peterborough and the Kawartha Lakes.

What Mili provides with The Canadian Lease Abstractor business is really quite unique and in a lot of ways a great resource to make life easier for people bound by commercial leases. By abstracting leases, she is essentially summarizing the document to assist the reader in locating frequently referenced items without needing to continually read through the entire document and decipher the meanings.

With so much difficult to understand technical language in these documents, Mili works toward creating a simpler layman’s terms report for quick accessibility. Additionally, all of the financial terms, critical dates and obligations of the lease are documented in the abstract, which makes it useful particularly for property investors or lenders. Providing a lease abstract rather than a full lease text also saves time and money for those who are performing due diligence on the property for a potential sale or acquisition and takes all of the guess work out.

Mili loves her new community and as a realtor with Flat Rate Realty, she knows that the area is attracting new businesses. Her skills in lease abstracting and experience in commercial real estate have shown her the importance of what her service brings, and she wants people to know that there is help out there for them.

The people who Mili has helped out with her abstracting are a wide ranging group. They include:
-       Investors/Buyers
-       Porperty Managers
-       Maintenance Workers
-       Lease Administrators
-       Leasing Agents
-       Realtors/Brokers
-       Tenants
-       Landlords
-       Lenders
-       Facility Management Companies
-       Trustees in Bankruptcy

If one of Mili’s clients wants a lease abstracted and from the information provided decides not to pursue the property, she can locate other properties and work with them on that.

If you’re involved in any way with Commercial real estate and have ever wondered what you have gotten yourself into, The Canadian Lease Abstractor could be of great assistance! Don’t second guess yourself!

Canadian Blood Services In Urgent Need Of Donors

PTBOCanada File Photo

Canadian Blood Services has put out a media release urging the public to consider donating. Please spread the word and share this release on your social media channels...

With the holiday falling mid-week this year, we’re seeing fewer appointments booked and a higher number of cancellations around Canada Day. This is particularly challenging because many regular donors are planning to take an extra-long weekend.

·       Canadian Blood Services forecasts that they will need almost 30,000 appointments each week during the summer to meet demand. Right now, there are more than 7,500 appointments available across the country between now and July 5—including 122 in Ptbo ON.

·       Canadian Blood Services is urging eligible community members to do something patriotic in honour of Canada Day, help save a fellow Canadian by giving blood. To book an appointment download the GiveBlood app, visit blood.ca or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236 6283) now. All blood donors are needed, in particular those with type O and A blood.

·       If you already have an appointment to give blood this summer, thank you. A Canadian patient and their family are now counting on you, so please honour your appointment. Their life depends on you.

·       It can take up to 50 donors to help save the life of someone in a car crash.

Statistics:

·       Canadian Blood Services needs to fill 30,000 appointments every week to meet the demand of blood and blood products.

·       In recent months, about 20 per cent of donors have missed their appointments,

·       Platelets, part of blood that helps with clotting, are of particular concern around long weekends because they have a shelf-life of just five days before they expire.

Homecoming: The Bierk Brothers Art Exhibit "After" Opens June 28th At Art Gallery Of Peterborough

For brothers Alex, Jeff, Nick, and Charlie, this summer is a homecoming years in the making. Sons of the late great artist David Bierk, they are bringing their own brand of art to display at Art Gallery of Peterborough in an exhibit titled "AFTER" from June 28th to August 31st—along with some of their father's work as well.

Having grown up in Peterborough under the watchful tutelage of David—one of the greatest artists our country has ever known—the brothers have evolved into incredible artists in their own right. After years of study and practice, and many life experiences, they have carved out a niche for themselves unmatched amongst their peers.

Growing up with well-known siblings Sebastian (musician)—known as Sebastian Bach—Zac (former pro goalie), and sister Dylan (model/actress), these four now have the spotlight on themselves and rightly so.

Alex, Nick and Charlie have all taken up the brush like their father, creating works that need to be seen first-hand to be believed. Jeff, in his own right, has become a photographer whose images capture incredible and often times unreal scenes and subjects.

While they have all moved to Toronto to continue the careers, they have worked so hard—and fulfilled a dream—to return to their hometown to display their work.

People who may have known them as youngsters will be amazed at the growth and development they have achieved through years of putting in time and effort to perfect their crafts.

Fall In Love With A Blue Jay Fledgling Named Hank Rescued From A Cat's Mouth

[UPDATE July 16th] Chris Williams informs us Hank is doing well and getting somewhat independent now: "He now understands how to eat on his own if food is left in his cage and will strike out at flies and mosquitos when he is outside," says Chris. "I have tried to transition him slowly into the wild with him spending hours sitting on the gate listening to the sounds of other birds and mimicking their calls. Unfortunately due to the cat attack or a birth defect, it looks like his one wing has not developed properly which limits his ability to fly more than a few feet, so for now he is overly dependent. He may be able to compensate his wing issues but it is going to take some time. For now, Hank spends his days sitting on top of one of his two cages practicing his short flight patterns." Here's new pictures of Hank...

ORIGINAL POST

Chris Williams—head coach of the Peterborough Huskies—told us this beauty story. His son Conal found a blue jay hanging out of a cat's mouth on Weller St. this week. "Hank", as they call the blue jay (they've rescued 12 birds over the years and call them all Hank—so technically this is "Hank the 12th"), is a young fledgling about 2 weeks old and is unable to fly right now, eating a diet of kitten chow soaked in water to a mushy consistency. "Hank squawks every 20 minutes to be fed," says Chris, who has a number of years working with an avian rescue agency. "I expect to hand feed him for at least another two weeks and then try to release him in my backyard to live a happy life."

Here are more pictures of Hank the 12th...
