Follow @ECAlertON121 for Twitter-based weather alerts specifically for Peterborough. This automated service is issued by Environment Canada's meteorologists whenever dangerous weather conditions threaten.

In January, the Government of Canada announced a $134 million investment to improve the quality of weather forecasts and weather warnings to Canadians. Over 830 communities are now listed at Canada.ca/weather.

"Our Government is committed to ensuring Canadians have a weather forecasting system they can rely on to give them timely and accurate information. As more Canadians are using social media to stay informed, this new service will play an essential role in ensuring public safety by providing Canadians with expanded access to severe weather information."

Toronto Blue Jays Care Foundation Kicks In 100k For Trent Sport Field Project

The new Trent Sport Field project was made official on Tuesday (July 14th) thanks to the announcement of a $100,000 funding infusion from a Field of Dreams Grant from Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Trent Sport Field project is a cooperative project of the City and Trent University, with support from the Peterborough Baseball Association (PBA) and Peterborough Recreational Baseball Association (PRBA).

At a total estimated cost of $1,975,552, the project—which will be located at the corner of Nassau Mills Road and Pioneer Road on the East bank of Trent University—includes the following:

•    A major-sized baseball field including grass infield, 325’ left and right outfields and 400’ centre field, irrigation system, players’ dugouts, pitchers’ bullpen, sports field lighting and outfield fencing;
•    A natural turf rectangular sport field to accommodate rugby, field lacrosse and soccer, meeting the IRB (rugby), FIFA (soccer) and IFL (lacrosse) requirements for field dimensions and including an irrigation system, sports field lighting and safety fencing;
•    Parking and pedestrian walkways.

Funding and financial contributions for the project breakdown are as follows:
City of Peterborough -> $1,438,052
Trent University -> $250,000 and provision of land
Peterborough Baseball Association -> $150,000
Jays Care Foundation -> $100,000
Peterborough Recreational Baseball Association -> $37,500

“We are excited to have partnered with the Peterborough Baseball Association and pleased to provide a $100,000 investment towards the Trent Sport Field project,” says Robert Witchel, executive director of Jays Care Foundation in a media release. “As Canada’s team, we are proud to join Trent University, the City of Peterborough, and multiple baseball associations, and are moved at the prospect of providing 750 youth the opportunity to play the game and benefit from the invaluable life skills that are learned on the baseball diamond.”

**The contractor commenced work this week and the sport fields are expected to be complete by June 2016. Use of the two sport fields should be ready for 2016 sport season.

A Hot Tub + Banana Bread = One Of The Funniest Police Releases Ever

Our friends at Kawartha Lakes Police Service were called to one of the strangest calls ever. Here it is from their police brief on Monday (July 13th)...

"On July 10, 2015 police responded to a call from a woman who claims she awoke to what she thought was a man and a woman exiting her hot tub naked. Upon arrival at the scene, a taxi van full of young adults was about to leave and police were able to speak with a woman who admitted to having been the one in her neighbor’s hot tub. The woman apologized and advised she would make it up to her neighbor by baking her some banana bread. Parties were cautioned and no further action was taken by police."

The cheeky display copy in the police brief probably says it best: "Nothing Banana Bread Can't Fix".

So yes, remember this: There Is Nothing Banana Bread Can't Fix.

One more time: There Is Nothing Banana Bread Can't Fix

Watch A Young Raccoon Vandal In Bridgenorth

Barry Mortin shot hilarious video (scroll down below) from his bedroom balcony in Bridgenorth of a regular visitor—the Raccoon Vandal—they get...

"She was after bird food," Mortin tells PTBOCanada. "She had been coming at night but I started bringing the feeder in after dark. She then started coming in the afternoon and gorging herself. Sometimes she would bring a friend—likely a brother or sister."

Also note in the video how the suet feeder has been opened and emptied. That is also the work of this raccoon, Mortin tells us.

She's cute enough to let her get away with the vandalism, Mortin notes. See for yourself...
