A Peterborough Bride & Groom Had Epic Stanley Cup Wedding Cake Made By Cake Artist

Peterborough couple Jeff and Natalie just tied the knot last weekend, and the bride and groom had an epic Stanley Cup cake created for their nuptials.

We're not kidding, look at this Cup cake...

The Stanley Cup cake

"They are two huge hockey fans, with hockey being the main link that brought them together to this special day," Peterborough cake artist Margaret Camp tells PTBOCanada of creating this winner. "It just seemed fitting then, that they should have the ultimate prize for their favourite sport as their wedding cake."

"We are both huge hockey fans and players," says Natalie, who is currently honeymooning in Hawaii. "We have played internationally many times together with a doctors hockey team. Jeff cheers for San Jose—and was very happy they won on our wedding night—and I cheer for Montreal."

The couple just graduated as doctors from medical school and are both originally from Peterborough. They are going to be doing their residency training in family medicine in Brantford for a couple years, and hope to return to the Peterborough area after the rest of their training.

The hockey themed wedding also included a half San Jose/half Montreal garder, and Jeff being officially introduced to Natalie's family with a custom Montreal jersey from her brothers.

"It was such a thrill to put this cake together from scratch, and it's the tallest cake I've made to date!" Margaret tells PTBOCanada.

Gordie Howe's Act Of Kindness To A Teenage Waiter At Mother's Pizza In Peterborough Had Lasting Impact

Hockey icon Gordie Howe has passed away at the age of 88, and many are sharing their recollections of how this man touched so many lives well beyond hockey.

93.3 MY-FM radio personality Joel Scott shared an amazing anecdote on his Facebook page about the impact Gordie Howe had on him during one moment as a teenager when Scott was a waiter at Mother's Pizza in Peterborough. Read it below..

Joel Scott's Facebook post:

"I served Gordie Howe once as a teenager waitering at Mother's Pizza in Peterborough. He was with his wife. I was terrified. As I went to the table, my mouth went dry, my hands were shaking, my voice cracked as I asked them what they wanted...he clearly knew I was nervous...they ordered...he asked where a great place would be to take his wife for a drive... I was sweating through my shirt a bit i was so nervous around him.....This is the guy who owned hockey for 40 years! The Gordie Howe Hat Trick !! Mr. Elbows! When I brought the bill over, I thanked them and wished them well..I remember his credit card said Howe Enterprises on it..and when they got up to leave, Mr. Howe came over to the bar and put his hand on my shoulder..and told me I did a great job, and wished me a great weekend. A classy move from a class act."

Howe's gesture had a lasting impact on Joel: "He knew I was terrified and and in awe...and it was his quiet way of letting me know it's all good kid," he tells PTBOCanada. "It was a reminder that no matter how big you get you always treat people with respect and kindness...he embodied that his whole life."

Here Are Amazing Photos From Inside The Tunnels & Abandoned Attic At PCVS

There is an old tunnel between PCVS and the Armoury building dating back to the 1930s that was intended to facilitate cadets from the school "who would be saved outside movement in tough times," local historian Elwood Jones tells PTBOCanada.

Until now, we have never seen photos from inside the tunnel of this iconic building—or of the abandoned auditorium there. But former PCVS student Julie Douglas (2002-2007) did get inside both.

"I'd heard rumours about the tunnels and an abandoned auditorium above the science labs and had always wanted to visit (and even asked the science teachers if I could check it out a couple of times), but was always told no," Douglas tells PTBOCanada.

But all that changed in 2012 with the school's pending closure: "I'm a photographer who shoots a lot of abandoned buildings, so with rumours of the school potentially closing [it closed in June 2012 as a high school], I got in touch with a former teacher and the principal to see if I could document the space before it closed—and was granted permission," Douglas says.

"It was an amazing experience to be able to revisit a building that I had spent so much time in, and finally access the off-limits areas," Douglas tells PTBOCanada.

These stunning photos below supplied to PTBOCanada by Julie Douglas were taken in May 2012...
