Watch The Latest Trailer For The Peterborough Music Documentary "The Radius Project"

The long awaited documentary The Radius Project on how Peterborough's music scene has created so many international stars is getting closer to completion, its producers Michael Hurcomb and Ryan Lalonde tell PTBOCanada.

"We don't have a release date in mind yet, but we're planning on finishing shooting this summer," Lalonde tells PTBOCanada.

Lonely Parade

The Radius Project was born out of a simple question: “So which famous people would I know from your hometown?” The hometown in question was Peterborough and the answer was endless.

The Radius Project looks at the wealth of musicians that came from the radius around Peterborough and went on to national and international acclaim. A short list of people that grew up or relocated to the area are Serena Ryder, Royal Wood, Three Days Grace, Thousand Foot Krutch, The Silver Hearts, Ronnie Hawkins, The Leahys, producers Greg and Rob Wells, The Burning Hell and many more.

Three Days Grace

The documentary features an interview with Strombo, and a snippet of that is included in the trailer below...

Every famous musician started somewhere. This is a story about somewhere. The Radius Project was born out of a simple question: "So which famous people would I know from your hometown?" The hometown in question was Peterborough, Ontario and the answer was endless.

Peterborough Symphony Concluding 50th Season With Out-of-this-World Journey

On Saturday, May 27th at a spectacular season finale concert sponsored by Scotiabank, the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra will take audience members on a vivid musical adventure.

Through the music of Grieg, Liadov and Stravinsky, the classical elements of earth, water and fire will be explored before leaving Terra firma for outer space. Holst’s large-scale orchestral suite The Planets will be the guide for a melodic tour of the galaxy featuring the Women’s Chorus of the Peterborough Singers.

This concert marks the first time in over a decade that the PSO and members of the Peterborough Singers have performed together. Both organizations are looking forward to collaborating again.

General admission tickets for The Planets are available from the Showplace Performance Centre box office at a cost of $38.50 for adults, $10 for students. Visit the box office in-person (290 George St. N, Peterborough), online or call 705.742.7469 to purchase tickets.

Note that this concert will not take place at Showplace, but at Emmanuel United Church East—formerly known as George Street United Church (534 George St. N, Peterborough).

Concert ticket holders are invited to attend Meet the Maestro, a pre-concert chat with PSO Music Director & Conductor, Michael Newnham, in the church at 6:40 p.m. before the concert at 7:30 p.m.

Sunrise Record Store Coming To Lansdowne Place Mall

Sunrise: Canada's Record Store has updated their list of locations they're expanding to, and it now includes Lansdowne Place Mall in Peterborough.

Sunrise—which features independent music on CD and vinyl, DVD movies and pop culture toys, games and apparel—made the announcement of updated locations, including LP, on Wednesday (March 22nd).

No word yet when exactly it is opening at LP, but new stores start rolling out in April. This is great news for the mall, which recently lost HMV when it went bankrupt and closed its stores across Canada. Part of Sunrise's success will be capitalizing on the resurgence of vinyl.
