Peterborough Couple Hit This Robin Hood At Peterborough Axe Club

One of the best shots ever made at Peterborough Axe Club happened at the Thursday league night when Ken and Amy Smith hit this Robin Hood—and the Bull's Eye at the same time—while practising doubles.

Hitting a "Robin Hood" as Amy did—splitting the ax—is like getting a hole in one in golf or making a full court shot in basketball.

For Ken and Amy, this perfect shot will definitely be a moment they will never forget. You know what they say... the couple that throws together, grows together!

Peterborough Petes Petes Hire Mental Performance Coach To Enhance Players With Their Mental Game

Recognizing the mental aspect of the game is just as important as the physical, the Peterborough Petes have added a Mental Performance Coach to this year's team, bringing on Brenley Shapiro to their staff.

A Toronto-based Sport Psychology and Performance Consultant, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Certified Sports Vision Trainer, Shapiro’s program combines theories of cognition and behaviours into mental skills training, along with scientific strategies using state-of-the-art technologies to strengthen neurocognitive processing.

Brenley Shapiro

“The mind leads the body,” says Shapiro. “My goal is to teach the players how their mind impacts their performance by providing them with tips and strategies that will build a mindset for success.”

Shapiro has extensive experience and a specialized focus in work with hockey teams and players at every level from minor hockey through to the OHL, KHL, AHL and NHL. She has also been involved with the OHL Combine, U15 Program of Excellence, and sits on the expert panel for the Coaches Association of Ontario. She is a published author, keynote speaker, and the Mental Performance Spokesperson for Gatorade Canada.

Kudos to the Petes for this great hire.

A Bunch Of PCVS Basketball Alumni Reunited At Raider Dome For An Unforgettable Day Of Hoops

On Saturday (February 18th) on Family Day weekend, 38 former PCVS Raiders basketball players from classes gone by got together for an incredible afternoon of hoops at the school's "Raider Dome" in a reunion that had been long overdue.

Organized by 2002 grad Mike Hanley, the day featured a tournament format of teams broken down into age brackets.

Grads from as far back as the early 1980s up to 2010 suited up for a day that was less about winning a trophy and more about having fun in this iconic school which closed its doors as a high school five years ago in downtown Peteborough.

Coaches and teachers from the past even manned the benches, making the experience even more surreal for the alumni who gathered for this special day.

Spectators and family in attendance at Raider Dome

Size, speed, age and skill varied—with some NCAA and CIS standouts running the courts—but it didn't matter: This was about bringing back former comrades from close and afar to show that once you’re a Raider, you’re always a Raider.

After its success taking place on Family Day weekend, the plan is to make this an annual event to keep Raider basketball and pride going strong!

8 Great Reasons To Fill The Seats For Petes Game Against London Knights Thursday Night

There is a buzz around the Peterborough Petes about town right now—they have won 5 straight games—and need your support this Thursday night (December 15th) against a strong London Knights team. Below are 8 great reasons to go...

1. Ugly Christmas Sweaters. The Petes are wearing really neat one-of-a-kind sweaters, with all proceeds of the jersey supporting Operation Christmas Child. Bid on a jersey here.

2. The Petes are putting a winning product on this ice this year, and have a legitimate shot at winning the East (they are in 3rd place, just 6 points back of 1st place Oshawa). They are gunning for their 6th straight victory on Thursday night.

3. The game will be broadcast coast-to-coast on Sportsnet360, and a nice, raucous building will look great on our city and fanbase.

4. There is a Free Ski-Doo MXZ Sport giveaway by Gateway Powersport & Marine ($9,000 value). This isn’t a 1 year lease or a “shoot-to-win” where someone probably won’t win—this is a free chuck-a-puck where one of the first 2,500 fans in the building will be the new owner of a snowmobile.

5. Tim Horton’s is giving away over $750 in Tim Cards.

6. There will be a tribute to radio broadcasting legend John Badham during the first TV timeout.

7. This is the only home game against the powerhouse London Knights during the regular season (we can't wait to see them in the playoffs).

8. This is the Petes' last home game ahead of the holiday break, so it's your last chance to catch them for a while. Let's rock the PMC, go with family, friends and work colleagues.

Tickets are available online, at the Collins Barrow Box Office at PMC, or by calling (705) 743-3561. Make sure you download the Petes Mobile App for iPhone or Android to stay up to date with the Petes all season long.
