Local Embroidery's Custom Jacket Showcased By Toronto Blue Jays's Pitcher's Girlfriend

Local embroidery brand Petals & Thread has gotten some World Series attention, as one of its custom jackets was highlighted during Game One of the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

Taylor Frick, the girlfriend of Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage was spotted wearing the custom jacket during Game One of the World Series. It was featured in Sports Illustrated in an article published on Friday.

Petals & Thread founder Shannon Bryant says moments like this make her work extra meaningful.

“Seeing one of our jackets at the World Series was surreal,” said Bryant. “Our brand was built from a love of storytelling through embroidery and to see that story reach this level is something I’ll never forget.”

Bryant posted an Instagram reel unveiling the finished jacket, tagging Frick.

The latter commented the following on the reel:

“The best of the best!!! You deserve all the recognition 🤍🤍 couldn’t be happier!”

After receiving the jacket, Bryant posted a photo of herself with it on her Instagram story.

The World Series is tied at one piece in the best-of-seven series. Game three is in Los Angeles starting at 8 p.m. at Dodger Stadium.

First-Ever Couture For Kids Fashion Show to Benefit Five Counties Kids On Oct. 3

Fashion meets philanthropy at the first-ever Couture for Kids event in support of Five Counties Kids set for Oct. 3 at Celebrations (35 Lindsay St. N.) in Lindsay.

Five Counties kids Payton (front) and sister Paisley (back) are excited about the first-ever Couture for Kids fashion show fundraiser taking place on Oct. 3 in Lindsay. In 2023/24, the Centre served more than 1,300 kids and youth in Kawartha Lakes.

Couture for Kids is a fashion show featuring clothing from local retailers like Brittany’s N Bros, Bonita Clothing & Co, Cathy Allan Ladieswear, John G’s, Homethreads Boutique, The Lingerie Loft, Lizzy’s by Cathy Allan and Nisbett’s Clothiers.

“We are excited to mix fashion and fun at our first-ever Couture for Kids event in Lindsay,” said says Lyn Giles, Five Counties director of fund development. “This fundraising event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and support the life-changing work that goes on every day at Five Counties.”

The doors open at 6 p.m. with the fashion show starting at 7 p.m.. Tickets are $25 each and include light snacks provided by Milk and Honey Eatery and Brouwer Bake Shop. Tickets can be purchased at participating retailers or by going online.

A raffle, consisting of flower arrangements by Hill’s Florist, skin care basket, hair care basket, gift cards for local businesses and much more are being featured. Pass the Purse will also be on the agenda, with any attendee who puts a donation in the purse being entered in a draw to win it.

All proceeds from Couture for Kids will support Five Counties kids in City of Kawartha Lakes, helping them access needed life-changing treatment services close to home according to a press release.

Sustainable Fashion Comes to Lansdowne Place With Second-Hand Clothing Store

The Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region sells a lot of second-hand items and can add clothing to that list by opening a ReStyle store in Lansdowne Place mall last Friday.

In addition to second-hand clothing, they also sell purses, shoes, hats, scarves and accessories with some items that have never been used.

"We are so excited to bring a sustainable fashion option into Lansdowne Place,” said Cristina Skuce, Habitat director of Philanthropy and Communications. “This provides a great thrifting option for men's, women's and kids' clothing for members of our community and another affordable shopping option for every member of your household."

The ReStyle store is the first second-hand clothing store in Lansdowne Place according to Skuce.

The idea of the store came back in April last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic after the city ask Habitat to start accepting clothing donations since other places that accepted them were closed.

“If you think back to that time, people are at home, more times on their hands, people were doing a lot of organizing and decluttering and they had nowhere to drop stuff off because everything was closed,” explained Skuce. “So that's when we started opening our ReStores to accept those donations.”

Over 60,000 pounds of clothing was donated after the first three months of the Habitat accepting them.

The store was able to hire new staff and accept new volunteers to aid in the ReStyle’s opening.

Habitat is always looking for new volunteers to help in their ReStyle or ReStore facilities especially for high school students wanting to fill their mandatory 40-hour community service. High school co-op programs are also available through the non-profit organization.

“People have really embraced the second-hand shopping option and sustainable fashion and thrifting,” exclaimed Skuce. “It’s really exciting to see customers coming in and say, ‘I can't believe this is available second hand!’”

Proceeds from the ReStyle store support the Habitat’s home-building efforts in the Peterborough and Kawartha region.

StudioPTBO Releases YPQ T-Shirts In Collaboration With Ricart Promotions & Recognition

As a way to celebrate the growth of Peterborough Airport and the community—in this, Canada’s fast growing city—Peterborough-based marketing studio StudioPTBO has released a YPQ tee (Peterborough’s airport code) in partnership with Ricart Promotions & Recognition.

The tees are out for a limited time during this trial run in Men's/Unisex, Women's and Youth, and are available by ordering online here through Ricart.

”I’m stoked that our studio has released these in partnership with Ricart,” says Neil Morton, Co-Founder of StudioPTBO and PTBOCanada. “This is meant to be worn as a celebration of this community and the airport—Team Peterborough spirit—and I’m excited and grateful to see many people ordering them already.”

“The YPQ tees were designed by my partner Nora Mickee at StudioPTBO, and I’ve been working closely with the community-minded Matt D'Agostini from Ricart to make this a reality,” adds Morton. “I would love to see these tees fly off the shelves so to speak.”

The Peterborough Petes Are Returning To Maroon And White Jerseys With Modern Design

The Peterborough Petes announced at an exclusive fan appreciation event at the Junction Nightclub on Wednesday evening (January 23rd) that the team will return to wearing maroon and white jerseys beginning next season.

The white jerseys will feature maroon panels and piping, while the maroon jerseys will feature white panels and piping. Both jerseys will feature a single-colour logo and a Peterborough Lift Lock patch on each shoulder. The current black jersey, with cream and maroon accents, will remain as the team’s third jersey.

“While our current jersey design was well received when it was unveiled ahead of the 2014-15 season, fans, players and staff have continued to express their fondness for our traditional colours,” says Petes President Dave Pogue. “We’re excited to continue to pay homage to our storied history, but with a modern design.”

The Petes say they decided to make the jersey announcement now for their fans before they encounter jersey designs in manufacturer sales materials for the upcoming season.

The Petes also have longstanding and successful partnerships in place with the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council and Peterborough Hockey Association that they wanted to be aware of the jersey change.

The Petes don’t require all minor hockey teams to change to the new jersey design, but those that wish to change need to know with enough lead time to order new jerseys.

Omemee Shirt Purchased For Neil Young From PTBO Northern Originals In Peterborough

Mike Watt, owner of PTBO Northern Originals, a heritage-based clothing brand focused on local pride in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, was ecstatic when a member of Neil Young's crew dropped in to purchase his Omemee shirt on Friday (December 1st).

"An assistant came in and grabbed them for Neil and Daryl [Hannah, his partner] on Friday," Watt tells PTBOCanada of his T-shirt line, which is available online and at his store Flavour Fashion in downtown Peterborough.

"We actually hid an 'N Y' in the design—his initials—as a tribute to him," Watt tells PTBOCanada.

Young may not have worn the Tee for his special concert Friday night in his home town of Omemee, but it was a cool moment the entrepreneur Watt won't soon forget.

"I have to be honest—when we developed the design for the shirt we always hoped to get one to Neil," he says. "We're huge fans and want to pay tribute in some small way. This was special."
