Peterborough Man Arrested For Impaired Driving Going 26 Km/H Over The Limit With An Open Container of Alcohol

A 60-year-old Peterborough man is facing speeding and impaired charges after going 26 km/h over the limit with an open container of alcohol on Thursday night.

The Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit received complaints about speeding vehicles in the area of Airport Road and Beardsmore Road. 

At roughly 10:05 p.m., an officer on a traffic detail, responding to those complaints, recorded a vehicle going 76 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and, while speaking to the driver, noticed signs of impairment and an open container of alcohol.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Speeding (Highway Traffic Act)

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor (Liquor License Control Act)

The accused was also issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3.
