The 23rd Loonies on the Street Fundraiser in support of Kawartha Food Shareis hitting Downtown Peterborough on the corner of George St, and Simcoe St.on Dec. 15 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Their bucket brigade is collecting loose change on George Street while members of the Peterborough Lions Club are collecting on the Hunter Street Bridge. Online donations are also being accepted.

Kawartha Food Share is a central collection and distribution warehouse that partners with 37-member agency food banks, food cupboards and other food action programs in the City and County of Peterborough.

'Loonies on the Street' Fundraiser Raises Over $160,000 For Kawartha Food Share

The 23rd annual Loonies on the Street fundraiser was back to collecting donations in downtown Peterborough raising over $160,000 for Kawartha Food Share on Friday morning.

The fundraiser has raised over two million dollars to date, allowing them to purchase food items for over 8,500 community members each month.

While the loyal ‘bucket brigade’ were out collecting loose change up and down George St. outside of Peterborough Square, the Lions Club was collecting on the Hunter Street Bridge.

Loonies On The Street Aims To Raise $100,000 For Kawartha Food Share

The 21st year of the Loonies on the Street Fundraiser in support of Kawartha Food Share will take place on Dec. 10 from 7-10 a.m.

In an effort to keep everyone safe and to properly enforce Covid-19 protocols, the ‘Loonies’ have moved off the street and into the warmth again this year, broadcasting the festivities live on FREQ 90.5 and OLDIES 96.7.

The bucket brigade will be collecting loose change up and down George Street, and the Lions Club will be collecting on the Hunter Street Bridge.

All buckets will be on 6-foot poles to remain socially distant. Online donations can also be made at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/3-loonies-on-the-street.

This year the Loonies on the Street event is aiming to raise $100,000 for Kawartha Food Share (KFS).

Helping to feed more than 7,700 people a month – 35% of whom are children – KFS also provides nutritious snacks for area school breakfast programs helping over 17,000 children get a healthy start to their school day. Additionally, KFS partners with community meal programs, such as those provided by Brock Mission, One Roof Diner, the Salvation Army and others, to provide a well-rounded outreach for our hungry neighbours.

The 21st year of the Loonies on the Street Fundraiser in support of Kawartha Food Share takes place December 11th from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

In an effort to keep everyone safe and to properly enforce Covid-19 protocols, they have moved off the street and into the warmth this year, broadcasting the festivities live on FREQ 90.5 and OLDIES 96.7 from Santa’s House on the lower level of Peterborough Square.
