Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre Swimming Pool Has Been Reopened

The Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre’s swimming pool and change room showers have reopened following completed maintenance work on the facility’s boiler system.

The Centre is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.   

Swimming lessons begin this Saturday.

The pools and changeroom showers at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre remain closed as maintenance work continues on the facility’s boiler system.

The City anticipates that the pools and showers will reopen on April 16, with swimming lessons starting on April 18.   

The gymnasiums and fitness area remain open for regular use.  

The Sport and Wellness Centre is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre pool and change room showers are closed from now until April 11 due to maintenance on the facility’s boiler system.

The Sport and Wellness Centre (775 Brealey Dr.) will maintain its standard operating hours during this period, with the fitness centre and gymnasiums remaining open for their regular use.

Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The City of Peterborough celebrated two decades of sports, fitness and activity at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre in a ceremony held on Thursday morning.

The Centre had its groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 25, 2003. Since it first opened its doors on June 5, 2005, the building has been equipped with three gymnasiums, an aquatics centre and water slide, fitness centre and classes, an indoor track and multi-purpose rooms. The facility has become a centre of community connection, said Mayor Jeff Leal.

“We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with the residents and staff who have made the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre such an integral part of our community,” he explained. “This has become a place where individuals of all ages come to build healthy habits, helping our residents lead active, connected lives. The Sport and Wellness Centre is a true community hub.”

“Over the years, the Sport and Wellness Centre has welcomed thousands of members and guests, hosted countless community events and fitness classes, and played an important role in fostering social connections and lifelong wellness,” said Councillors Lesley Parnell and Alex Bierk in a joint statement. “We look forward to another 20 years of community and healthy activity at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre.”

Fleming College has been a longtime partner of the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, serving as the home of the Fleming Phoenix.

This facility has been an integral part of our students’ experience, providing a place where they can stay active, prioritize their well-being and feel connected to the broader Peterborough community,” said Dr. Kate McIntosh, Fleming College Vice President of Student Experience. “We are grateful for the Sport and Wellness Centre’s ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive space for all, and we congratulate the entire Sport and Wellness Centre team on this significant milestone.”

The Peterborough Sport And Wellness Centre Is Slated To Reopen July 27th

Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre is expected to reopen for members and community use starting July 27th, the City of Peterborough says in a media release.

They will be implementing a phased approach for the centre hours, activities and programs, including new protocols to help create a safe experience for visitors and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To support provincial guidelines and enhanced cleaning activities, the hours of operation are being adjusted at the facility:
-> Monday to Friday – 7 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
-> Saturday and Sunday – 7 a.m. to noon

During this phased reopening, visitors will have access to the Aquatic and Fitness Centres—including changerooms—on a first-come, first-served basis, but that will not include fitness classes, personal training, child minding or registered programs such as swimming lessons and aqua fitness.

SOME OF THE MEASURES & PROTOCOLS PUT IN PLACE INCLUDE:

• Self-screening before entering the facility
• Patrons required to use hand sanitizer before using the facility
• Directional floor markers for patrons to follow to support physical distancing
• Enhanced cleaning of the facility, including exercise equipment, both during the hours the facility is  open to users and during the time it is closed
• Physical barriers (plexiglass), signage, and personal protective equipment
• Restricting the maximum number of people in the facility at one time 

The Wellness Centre continues to monitor direction from health officials and modify service plans accordingly.
