This one-day closure of the bridge, located on Parkhill Road East between Armour Road and Television Road, is required for seasonal maintenance purposes.

Members of the public are encouraged to use alternate bridge crossings at Maria Street or Lansdowne Street, where traffic control measures and detour signage will be in place.

Parks Canada is leading this infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including investments in the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site in Peterborough.

Warsaw Road Swing Bridge Temporarily Closed For Two Weeks Beginning Nov. 7

The Warsaw Road Swing Bridge under advisement of Parks Canada is closed from Nov. 7 at 9 a.m. to Nov. 18 at 2 p.m., announced on Thursday.

The bridge is located on Parkhill Road East between Armour Road and Television Road.

The closure is for completing repairs to the bridge’s metal grating deck. Traffic control measures and detour routes will be in place during the bridge’s closure.

Pedestrians and cyclists using the west pathway along the canal — between Parkhill Road East and Woodbine Avenue — may have occasional interruptions the week before and after construction for site preparation and teardown. This work will not impact traffic flow on Parkhill Road according to Parks Canada.

The sidewalk on the bridge will be accessible except for roughly two days at the start and end of the closure to remove and reinstall the grating panels.

Temporary Fix Will Keep Warsaw Swing Bridge Open Before Full Repair In Fall

After a successful repair to select panels on the Warsaw Swing Bridge more temporary repairs will be made in the coming days ahead of a full repair in the fall.

Initially panels were removed, repaired and replaced in an attempt to reduce the noise caused by vehicles using the bridge.

After monitoring the progress Parks Canada has determined the repair was successful in reducing noise but there are still panels that will need repair.

In the coming days additional temporary hold-downs will be installed. To minimize impacts on traffic, the work will be carried out during regular bridge swings. The bridge will not be closed, though delays due to extended bridge swings can be expected. The repair work will not impact navigation along the waterway.

Parks Canada advises that traffic control measures which were put in place a few weeks ago to slow down traffic approaching the bridge are still in place and will remain until the temporary work has been completed.

Warsaw Road Swing Bridge Closed For Construction This Week

The Warsaw Road Swing Bridge, located on Parkhill Road East between Armour Road and Television Road, will be closed to all vehicular traffic starting on Monday until Friday mid-day.

Traffic control measures and detour routes will be in place for the duration of the work.

At this time, selected grating panels of the metal bridge deck will be removed, repaired and reattached to the bridge to reduce the noise caused by vehicles using the bridge. Following an observation period during the summer months, similar work may be completed on the remaining grating panels in the fall.

The repair work will not impact navigation along the waterway.

Warsaw Swing Bridge Temporarily Reduced To One Lane

Parks Canada announced on Monday that Warsaw Road Swing Bridge will be temporarily reduced to one lane for vehicle traffic on Friday and Saturday, between 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The bridge will be closed for temporary removal of the cyclist steel plates located on the outer edge of both traffic lanes on the main bridge deck.

Traffic control will be in place.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution , respect working crews and equipment, and obey signage and flag persons in the area.

The Warsaw Road Swing Bridge was closed from October 2020 to August 2021 to undergo a full replacement of the bridge superstructure, repairs to concrete abutments, replacement of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical operating systems, and to bring the bridge up to full highway loading.

Part of this work included the installation of perforated cyclist steel plates on the outer edge of both traffic lanes to provide a smooth and safe ride over the bridge for cyclists.

Following the reopening of the bridge, it was discovered that noise levels on the bridge were elevated as a result of the plates vibrating on top of the bridge grating when vehicles travel over them.

The plates will be removed and will be replaced in the spring with new plates that will allow for installation of fasteners to reduce noise levels. Noise from the bridge will not be fully eliminated but rather reduced to levels similar to what existed prior to construction. Cyclists are advised to exercise caution when crossing the bridge until the new plates are installed.

During commissioning of the swing bridge this week, the fit of key mechanical components on the bridge did not meet specifications. The components have been removed and are being remachined to ensure the proper fit. These components need to be properly in place on the bridge before testing and commissioning can restart to ensure safety.

If future testing and commissioning goes to plan, Parks Canada still expects the bridge will be reopened in August. If additional adjustments or modifications are required as a result of the testing the bridge reopening will be delayed until they are completed.

Immediately following the reopening of the bridge, short intermittent delays are expected for operational testing. Traffic control measures will be in place.

The bridge has been closed for a full replacement of the steel swing bridge structure, repairs to concrete abutments, and replacement of mechanical and electrical operating systems. The project has also brought the bridge up to full highway loading.

All mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components are onsite however issues related to the installation of the components have delayed the bridge testing and commissioning work to next week.

If the testing and commissioning go well, the bridge’s reopening will go as scheduled. If additional adjustments or modifications are required as a result of the testing, the bridge opening will be delayed until they are completed.

Immediately following the reopening of the bridge, short intermittent delays are expected for operational testing. Traffic control measures will be in place during that time.

The bridge has been closed for a full replacement of the steel swing bridge structure, repairs to concrete abutments and replacement of mechanical and electrical operating systems. As well, the project has brought the bridge up to full highway loading.

Notable businesses near the bridge are Alf Curtis Home Improvements and Paterson Auto Sales & Service.

Update On Warsaw Road Swing Bridge Construction

Construction is underway and progressing well at Parks Canada’s project to replace the Warsaw Road Swing Bridge, on Parkhill Road East (between Armour Road and Television Road). Engineering inspections in recent years have indicated that this bridge is nearing the end of its useful life.

Construction work at the site includes an in-kind replacement of the bridge structure, which will bring the bridge up to a full highway load rating. The project also includes the replacement of mechanical and electrical operating systems. The Contractor has substantially completed all concrete work in the contract, including the rehabilitation of the centre pier that supports the bridge span, and re-facing of the concrete abutments and wing wall.

Preparations are underway for the start of the delivery of components for the superstructure. Parks Canada has also approved additional concrete work on the face of the abutment that is not expected to impact the overall schedule, but will improve the overall lifespan of the asset.

Vehicular use of the bridge is on-schedule to be reinstated in the spring of this year, with landscaping work to follow.
