Temporary Downtown Patios To Be Removed On Nov. 2

Temporary downtown patios will be removed starting Nov. 2 to prepare sidewalks and roads for winter snow-clearing operations.

This was the seventh summer the City implemented temporary changes to downtown public spaces to allow more patio and pedestrian space.  Photo by Jordan Cooper.

Restaurants and other businesses with temporary patios on city-owned land, including sidewalks and on-street parking next to their businesses, should remove all patio furniture by the end of the day on Nov. 1.

The expanded patio spaces were installed in May. During patio season, the city temporarily transformed Hunter Street West between George Street North and Aylmer Street into a one-lane, one-way street to add more patio and pedestrian space in the café district.

With the removal of the expanded patio areas, Hunter Street West between George Street North and Aylmer Street will return to a two-lane, two-way street.
