Mashup, currently on display in the front room of Artspace, is a collab/co-mingle of art from two artists: Montreal artist Nadia Moss uses sculpture and drawing in a fun, creative way which plays out as a cross between street art and comic book art; and London, Ontario artist James Kirkpatrick uses interactivity as a basis in his sculpture. This is an excellent installation.

Both of these shows run until Friday, November 25th. That gives you a good two weeks to check it out. It's a fun look-see. Artspace is located at 378 Aylmer Street.

Saturday saw the 5th Annual Garage Rock Jubilee happen at the Pig's Ear Tavern. Thirteen bands took part, each taking 40 minute sets which began at 4 p.m. and went all the way to close. Presented by Bareknuckle Records, the event included sets by the likes of Hundred Year Champions, No Pussyfooting and Bumpin' Tacos. Muddy's Pit BBQ was on hand with tasty food for the rockin' crowd.

Musician Caylie Staples did this cover of "The Suburbs" (it starts just after the 4:00 minute mark) in the summer at The Spill. It just got uploaded to YouTube. Man, she can sing.

After local independent movie rental shop Have You Seen... announced they were closing, the windows have been papered over in preparation for their closing sale. That seemed clear enough, until we read the new notice on their door...

It would appear that the kids are not over it. Students from PCVS took to the streets over the noon hour today to show their displeasure in the announced closing of their high school. The event was mounted as a "ghost walk" and was meant to point out to everyone that if you take more than 900 kids and teachers out of the downtown, it does have an effect. While the decision to close PCVS is in the Ministry of Education's hands (pending an Administrative Review), that didn't stop the hundreds of kids who have taken it upon themselves again to show the community that the decision of the School Board trustees is still on their minds.

After nearly 24 years in business, Blushing Brides shop owner Sharon Genge has decided to retire and the store is scheduled to close on December 31st unless Sharon can find a new owner before then. There are terrific 50% off sales and deals happening until then if you're going to be needing that perfect dress soon!
