This Stunning Composite Of Two Photos Reveals A Cinematic Like Downtown Peterborough

Peterborough photographer Zach Baranowski posted a stunning image of Market Hall and the downtown that is getting hundreds and hundreds of likes on his Instagram page.

Zach says on his Instagram post (embedded below) that the image is a composite of two of his photos—it "makes you realize what's really there, masked by the city lights."

"©Zach Baranowski Photography ~ *spoiler alert* This is a composite of two of my photos. However it makes you realize what's really there, masked by the..."

Zach tells PTBOCanada more about how he created this cinematic-like image using technology:

"I took this shot of the Market Hall on my way home after a night of shooting some promotional photos for One Eighty Hunter," he tells PTBOCanada. "It was shot on my 5D mkii: Manual exposure, 25 sec, f/22, ISO 250. The sky photo was taken a couple weeks ago when I was hiking late at night up at High Falls trail (just down the road from Petroglyphs Provincial Park), and the sky was perfectly clear. The composite was created after I edited the Market Hall photo and decided that the pure dark sky was very uninteresting and took away from the rest of the photo. I then took both of the photos into Photoshop CC."

Zach sent us the beautiful original below that he posted to Instagram...

The Peterborough Library's New Bold, Modern Look

UPDATE (May 2nd): The Library has put up this sign to notify people of the move...

--------------------

ORIGINAL POST

The Peterborough Public Library is beginning a multiple stage process to transition to a radical new redesign of their building.

On April 30th, the main branch will close for renovations. During a two to three week transition, the entire collection of books will be moved to a temporary location in the lower level of Peterborough Square, which will open May 19th. Renovations will begin on the 30-year-old library branch to make it more modern, offer more user friendly spaces, and quiet areas to work.

The library has started up a special website to show you the transition called PPL Moves and it will include photos, news and more info as work gets underway.

Hours will remain the same at the temporary location at Peterborough Square, but there will be no after-hours book drop-off. Bring your parking voucher however to get it stamped for a free hour of parking in the underground garage of the Square.

Here are blueprints of what the inside of the renovated branch will look like...

Downtown Peterborough To Have Free Outdoor Wi-Fi

**UPDATE (June 21st)** Free outdoor Wi-Fi is still definitely happening in downtown Peterborough but its launch has been delayed, the DBIA tells PTBOCanada. "We've hit a number of snags along the way that have slowed the project down, but it is still very much in the works and will launch this summer," Communications Manager Joel Wiebe tells PTBOCanada. No specific launch date is given, but they're aiming for July.

ORIGINAL POST

Awesome news for Downtown Peterborough as free outdoor Wi-Fi is coming to the downtown core later this spring, likely in May.

"Wi-Fi and smartphones are becoming integral to the way people shop, dine, work, live and enjoy a night out," says DBIA Communications Manager Joel Wiebe. "Downtown continues to offer a rewarding local experience and modernizing with free Wi-Fi will add to that experience."

The free Wi-Fi will cover much of the main commercial area downtown with potential to expand it if it's a success.

"Wi-Fi is one more way for us to show value to our members and make downtown more competitive," adds DBIA Executive Director Terry Guiel.

This exciting venture is a partnership between the DBIA, Community Futures Development Corporation, Peterborough Utilities Group, Peterborough and the Kawarthas Tourism, the City of Peterborough and other potential partners.

The Wi-Fi will be similar to most free networks in that you'll have to hit "agree" on a landing page but you won't need to have a password.
