City Hall

City Hall, including Building Services, the Clerk’s Office and the Tax Office will be closed on Sept. 2. Online services are available at peterborough.ca.

Garbage, Green Bin and yard waste

There are no changes to the curbside waste collection schedule.

The City/County Landfill at 1260 Bensfort Rd. will be closed.

The Hazardous and Electronic Waste Depot at 400 Pido Rd. will be closed. The Hazardous and Electronic Waste Depot’s normal operating hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Transit

Peterborough Transit will operate on a Sunday/Holiday service schedule on Monday, September 2. The Customer Service desk will be open from 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit peterborough.ca/transit for details or call Transit Customer Service at 705-745-0525.

Peterborough Airport

The Peterborough Airport is open regular hours, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 2. Visit peterborough.ca/airport for more information.

Arenas

The Kinsmen Civic Centre and Healthy Planet Arena, including the Recreation Facility Booking office, will be closed except to scheduled user groups.

The Peterborough Memorial Centre and the Grant Thornton Box Office will be closed on Sept. 2. Ticket sales are available online at memorialcentre.ca.

Art Gallery of Peterborough

Art Gallery of Peterborough at 250 Crescent St. will be closed. For information about gallery exhibitions and programs please visit agp.on.ca.

Peterborough Marina

The Peterborough Marina at 92 George St. N. will be open 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Peterborough Museum and Archives

Peterborough Museum and Archives at 300 Hunter St. E. will be open noon to 5 p.m. on Labour Day. Information about current exhibitions is available online at peterborough.ca/museum.

Parking

Parking in City-operated parking garages, surface lots and on-street parking spots is free on weekends and holidays. Visit peterborough.ca/parking to find more information, including locations.

Peterborough Public Library at 345 Aylmer St. will be closed on Sept. 2. Information and digital resources are online at ptbolibrary.ca.

Provincial Offences Act office

Provincial Offences Act office at 99 Simcoe St. will be closed on Sept. 2. Fine payments can be made online at peterborough.ca/POA.

Public Works

Splash pads

Splash pads in City parks are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Our summer lifeguard program at Beavermead Park and Rogers Cove beaches, as well as local wading pools, ending for the season on Sunday. Beaches are now unsupervised.

Sport and Wellness Centre

Sport and Wellness Centre at 775 Brealey Dr. will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 2.

Social Services

Due to Tuesday’s heavy rainfall, the City of Peterborough is asking everyone to stay off its baseball diamonds to avoid damage until Wednesday evening.

Use of natural and artificial turf fields will be at the discretion of user groups. The City advises caution to be used when playing on them.

Damaged fields and divots can create safety concerns for players. If repairs are required following the storm, the reopening of diamonds or fields may be delayed as the City could deliver further notice.

Following inspections, Peterborough baseball diamonds remain closed due to extremely wet conditions caused by Wednesday’s rainfall until at least Friday according to the City.

Recreation and Parks Services crews cannot complete infield maintenance until the fields have dried. The City is asking all sports and recreational users to stay off diamonds until further notice.

The City of Peterborough apologizes for any inconvenience.

Natural and artificial turf fields are open, but users are advised that use during current wet conditions may cause damage that requires repairs.

New Property Tax Portal Launched By City of Peterborough

The City of Peterborough has launched a new online portal for property taxes to provide property owners with access to their account information 24/7 from their computer or mobile device.

“The new online portal for property tax information is an important enhancement to the City’s customer service,” said Mayor Jeff Leal. “Checking your information and getting your tax bills electronically isn’t just convenient—going paperless is also good for the environment.”

The online portal allows users to manage their property tax bills online, including the ability to:

  • view their current and previous bills

  • view their current property tax balance and payment history

  • print statement of account

  • sign up for electronic billing

  • enroll in the pre-authorized payment plan

  • update their mailing address

Property owners can register for the online portal to complete the secure, two-factor authentication process. To register, they will require the access code from their property tax bill from 2023 or later. The access code is located at the top right corner of the Interim or Final Tax Bill.

The City of Peterborough Updates Social Services Office Hours

The City of Peterborough Social Services office has updated its hours.

Starting July 2, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. It will return to extended hours starting Sept. 3.

The Social Services office is located at 178 Charlotte St. Its phone number during office hours is 705-748-8830.

Outside of regular business hours, Social Services maintains after-hours emergency services that can be accessed by calling 705-926-0096.

City Splash Pads Now Open For the Season

Peterborough’s six splash pads are open for the season, running from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, announced by the City of Peterborough on Friday.

City splash pads are at the following locations:

  • King Edward Park, 455 George St. S.

  • Rogers Cove, 131 Maria St.

  • Kinsmen Park, 1 Kinsmen Way (Sherbrooke Street and Clonsilla Avenue)

  • Barnardo Park, Barnardo Avenue, north of Sunset Boulevard

The splash pads at King Edward Park, 455 George St. S. and Kinsmen Park, 1 Kinsmen Way (Sherbrooke Street and Clonsilla Avenue) are undergoing repairs and/or final commissioning inspections and will open as soon as possible according to the City.

“Splash pads offer a fantastic and inclusive way for children and families to enjoy water play, promoting outdoor activity and social interaction in a safe, refreshing and accessible environment,” said Councillor Lesley Parnell. “We encourage everyone to get outside, get active, and enjoy the season.”

Beaches at Rogers Cove and Beavermead Park will not be supervised until the City’s lifeguard program starts on July 1. Wading pools in City parks will be opened later in the season when lifeguard supervision is provided.
