The first period went by fast with no penalties or goals. Peterborough led in shots 9-7 going into the second.

The second period was slightly more lively Bulldog’s Noah Roberts took a major spearing penalty three minutes in. Peterborough capitalized as Jack Van Volsen crashed the net and shovelled in a Tucker Robertson rebound to get the game’s first score into the third.

The Petes had layover powerplay time from a Hamilton penalty in the second. J.R. Avon extended Peterborough’s lead to 2-0. Seconds later Hamilton captain Logan Morrison cut the lead in half. Justin DeZoete restored the two-goal lead late into the period to make it 3-1.

Hamilton had a six-on-four powerplay with an empty net and capitalized to make it 3-2. The Bulldogs pulled their goalie again but Tucker Robertson tacked on the insurance marker to make it 4-2. Nick Lardis added a powerplay goal with five seconds left to make it a 5-2 final.

Former Peterborough Petes' Nick Robertson Scores Two Including Game-Winner For Toronto Maple Leafs in Season Debut

From missing the opening lineup to overtime hero, former Peterborough Pete Nick Robertson netted two goals including a walk-off score to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.

Robertson made his season debut in the Leafs’ fifth game after failing to make the opening night roster.

He made his first goal not two minutes into the third period, seconds after Toronto’s powerplay expired. Robertson received a pass from Michael Bunting from the far-side corner, was uncontested when making his shot and sniped it past Stars goaltender Scott Wedgewood to give Toronto a 2-1 lead.

During overtime, Robertson created a turnover as the lone man during an odd-man rush for Dallas. Toronto had an odd-man rush of their own as Robertson slapped a one-timer goal off a give-and-go pass from star Leafs forward Auston Matthews to win the game 3-2.

After the game, Robertson credited his mother for having a memorable season debut.

“She’s my rock, she’s the reason why I’m here,” he said. “To have a night like this, it’s something you dream of. I definitely put the work in, she’s put the work in more than I have to get to this point.”

Nick made his season debut against his brother and Stars forward Jason Robertson.

Three minutes into J.R Avon would tuck one past Zhigalov to tie the game at 1-1. Tucker Robertson extended the Petes lead after Kingston committed a delay-of-game penalty, ripping a shot off the post and in for a 2-1 lead into the third.

Peterborough exploded in the third period offensively as Jax Dubois scored his first of the year, Justin DeZoete rifled one through for his third of the year and Robertson capped it off with a penalty shot goal to seal the victory.

Petes goalie Michael Simpson stopped 27 of 28 in net to earn the win.
