Man Wanted On Large-Scale Police Search Arrested and Taken Into Custody

A 34-year-old man wanted in connection with a large-scale police search that began Tuesday afternoon has been arrested.

He was located and taken into custody at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Peterborough Police Service, Emergency Response Team, K9 and an OPP helicopter were in the Maniece Avenue and Ashburnham Drive area searching for the suspect yesterday afternoon. He is wanted in connection with non-violent crimes.

Two Peterborough Men Arrested On Impaired Driving Charges In Separate Incidents

Two Peterborough men have been arrested and charged with impaired driving in separate incidents that occurred on Tuesday morning.

A 22-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after a single-vehicle collision.

At roughly 1:40 a.m., the Peterborough Police Service received a couple of calls about a vehicle in the ditch in the area of Monaghan Road and Parkhill Road. They located a vehicle with front end damage parked facing the wrong way on Monaghan Road. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment and learned the driver’s license had been cancelled.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

  • Drive motor vehicle- no licence (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 28. 

An 18-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after a collision.

At roughly 4:30 a.m., the Peterborough Police Service received calls about a collision in the Hunter Street East and Driscoll Terrace area. Officers learned that a vehicle had struck a parked vehicle and flipped over but no injuries were sustained. In speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment. Hunter Street was closed for about an hour while the cars were removed.  

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

  • Novice Driver B.A.C Above zero (Highway Traffic Act)

  • Careless Driving (Highway Traffic Act)

  • Fail to Notify change of address – license (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 28.

Peterborough Man Arrested After Brandishing a Knife During a Road Rage Incident

A 50-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after a road rage incident that involved brandishing a knife at a person on Wednesday evening.

At roughly 6 p.m., officers were called to the Hunter Street West and Aylmer Street area. Upon arrival, they learned that the victim, who was stopped in their vehicle at George Street and McDonnel Street, was approached by a motorcyclist. The latter yelled and spat at the victim, complaining about their driving, then followed the victim to a parking lot in the Hunter Street West and Aylmer Street area.

The motorcyclist approached the car again and brandished a knife at the driver while yelling, including racial slurs, before fleeing the area. The motorcyclist was identified and officers attended his residence and took him into custody on Thursday at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault

  • Assault with A Weapon

  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

As the case involves a hate crime element, the Peterborough Police will address it progresses through the court process.

Two Arrests Made For Stunt Driving; One Person Charged With Impaired Driving

Two drivers are facing stunt driving charges in two separate incidents, with one also receiving an impaired driving charge, reported on Thursday.

A 20-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired and stunt driving charges after a traffic stop in Peterborough early Wednesday morning.

At roughly 2:17 a.m., an officer conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Water Street and Mill Street spotted a vehicle going 90 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.  The officer activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking to the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

  • Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform stunt - Excessive speed

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 21.

A 24-year-old driver is facing a stunt driving charge after a traffic stop in Lakefield Tuesday night.

At roughly 10 p.m., an officer was on general patrol in the area of Lakefield Road and Fraser Street.  A vehicle was recorded travelling at 119 km/h in a 50km/h zone. The officer activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. 

The driver was issued a ticket for stunt driving, a 30-day license suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

Peterborough Man Charged With Child Pornography Earlier This Year Arrested For Indecent Acts and Voyeurism

Twenty-three-year-old Mathew Saunders from Peterborough, who was charged earlier this year with harassment and possession of child pornography, is facing more charges after an investigation into more of his devices on Thursday.

Officers conducted a search warrant of a phone and located photos and videos of indecent acts and voyeurism while at his place of work, in his home and in the community.

Police say there’s no indication that any incidents involved members of the public, as the business was closed at the time of the incidents. 

Saunders was arrested and charged with:

  • Indecent Act X5

  • Voyeurism X9

The accused was held in custody after his arrest and was released on a release order with strict conditions earlier this week after his court appearance.  

The investigation is ongoing and officers are continuing to identify and connect with known victims.

Stunt Driving Laid After Driver's Cellphone Video Surfaces to Police

A 26-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after an investigation into a cellphone video showing high rates of speed on Monday.

The Peterborough Police Traffic Management Unit was made aware of a cellphone video where the motor vehicle's owner recorded himself travelling 2.5 times the posted speed limit on The Parkway (150 km/h in a 60 km/h zone). 

Officers were able to confirm the date, time, location and speed of the vehicle. 

The driver was located and charged under the Highway Traffic Act with: 

  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - speeding by 40 or more km/hr in a zone that is less than 80km\h

  • Speeding 150 km/h in a 60 km/h zone

  • Drive - hand-held communication device

The vehicle has been impounded for 14 days and the driver's license has been suspended for 30 days. 

The investigation is still ongoing.

Two Women Arrested After One Struck Another Woman's Hand With a Knife

Two Peterborough women are facing charges after an intimate partner violence incident, involving one woman striking another woman’s hand with a knife on Sunday afternoon.

At roughly 5 p.m., officers were dispatched to the fire station on Sherbrooke Street regarding a woman with a hand injury. Two women had been socializing near Millennium Park when a verbal argument escalated and one of the women was struck with a knife on the hand. The woman with the injury was treated and released by EMS at the scene. While the investigation was underway, the second woman walked by and was taken into custody.

A 53-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to comply with undertaking

A 59-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to comply with undertaking (party to the offence)

  • Assault with a weapon - spousal

The women knew each other and had been under conditions that prevented them from interacting.

Both women are being held in custody on Monday.

Bracebridge Man Faces Impaired Driving Charges

A 23-year-old Bracebridge man is facing impaired charges after a concerned citizen called police on Friday morning.

At roughly 2:20 a.m., officers were called about a possible impaired driver in The Parkway and Fisher Drive area. An officer in the Charlotte Street and Park Street North area spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking to the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

  • Entire plate not plainly visible (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14.

Man Arrested For Allegedly Stabbing a Woman Gets Charges Upgraded to Attempted Murder

A 49-year-old Peterborough man wanted on an Ontario-wide warrant who was arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman with a knife has had his charges upgraded to attempted murder, announced on Tuesday.

Officers responded to a residence on Southlawn Drive and Otonabee Drive area on Saturday. A 42-year-old woman was found with injuries and taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

The Peterborough Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT) contained the residence. They arrested a male suspect, who was taken to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of injuries sustained during the initial incident.

The man has now been charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder

The accused is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

The name of the accused is not being released to protect the victim's identity in this incident.

Road Rage Incident Leads to Assault Charge For Peterborough Man

A 34-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges, including assault, after a road rage incident on Saturday afternoon.

At roughly 3:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Bowers Park area regarding a group causing a disturbance. It was determined that the call was unfounded.  However, in speaking with the group, officers learned that there had been a road rage altercation between a motorist and a person on an e-scooter a few hours earlier and that the person on the e-scooter had been hanging around the parking lot.  The latter was no longer in the area and there was no basis to the call for service; officers left. 

Shortly after, a second call came in stating that the man on the e-scooter had returned and brandished a knife at the group. One person received a minor injury during an altercation that ensued. Officers returned to the scene and took the male into custody as the group was holding him.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with A Weapon

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 7.
