Peterborough Band To Watch: roboteyes

Peterborough's roboteyes has just released their debut album. It has a distinct 80s new wave, synthpop sound that lands somewhere around the feel of early eighties British duo Yaz (aka Yazoo).

Their first single, "Break My Heart", could become a hit if it gets radio airplay.

Band members include Kate LeDeuce, vocals; Ryan Ford, guitar/vocals; Matt Servo, synthesis; and Marty Kerslake, bass.

Have a listen to the 4-track album or download it here.

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Das Bootleg Studios in Toronto.

The Iconic hiTOPS Sign Is No More In Downtown Peterborough

hiTOPS Facebook page photoThe iconic hiTOPS sign in downtown Peterborough has come down, and been replaced with this sign pictured below for a new Thai restaurant.

hiTOPS Chinese Restaurant had been undergoing renovations for sometime, but much speculation has surrounded whether it would in fact re-open with the same name and ownership.

hiTOPS, and its facade, has been a landmark downtown. It has been locally owned and operated for four generations by the Hum family, and has been in business here for over 100 years.

Now, in its place, is Real Thai Cuisine restaurant.

No word yet from the hiTOP owners on what happened, and whether in fact they own this new restaurant.

Red Pashmina Announces Next Phase Of Their Campaign, Recognizing Women In Peterborough

Thanks to the Peterborough community, the Red Pashmina Campaign was able to raise $6,700 in 2012 for women in Afghanistan. The money will go toward supporting their Lantern Fund, an initiative that funds teacher training programs in Afghanistan.

The next phase of the campaign will focus on the local component—to recognize and celebrate the incredible women in Peterborough by sharing their stories. Ten women nominated by the community before January 31st will be profiled in the Red Pashmina photo exhibit during the SPARK Photo Festival. The campaign will be working with five local photographers on photo essays to be displayed at Natas Cafe this April. Proceeds from the auctioning of the photos will go toward educating women and girls in Afghanistan. If you wish to sponsor a photo essay or for more info, email redpashminacampaign@gmail.com.
