PTBO Game Jam 02 At Fleming College Was Huge Success

UPDATED (February 23rd) with more pictures below....

---------------

More than 150 participants took place in PTBO Game Jam 02, held February 17th to 19th at Fleming College’s state of the art Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre. More than half of those in attendance were game developers, resulting in an impressive 33 games being created.

This semi-annual, not-for-profit showcase of all things game development saw programmers, designers, artists and others involved in game-development disciplines gather to plan, design and create games in a specified time frame.

PTBO Game Jam 02 also presented an event-opening Educational Block that featured Robert French, who led a seminar on the steps and processes involved in the creation of PAC-MAN.

“Watching the organic growth of this event has been astonishing,” says principal event organizer Matthew Davey of Peterborough game development studio dotBunny.

“Hearing the stories of individuals and their journeys to get here made all the work organizing it well worth it. I can't wait to see what we can do for PTBO Game Jam 03 as we are now starting to catch the eye of much larger markets.”

A Bunch Of PCVS Basketball Alumni Reunited At Raider Dome For An Unforgettable Day Of Hoops

On Saturday (February 18th) on Family Day weekend, 38 former PCVS Raiders basketball players from classes gone by got together for an incredible afternoon of hoops at the school's "Raider Dome" in a reunion that had been long overdue.

Organized by 2002 grad Mike Hanley, the day featured a tournament format of teams broken down into age brackets.

Grads from as far back as the early 1980s up to 2010 suited up for a day that was less about winning a trophy and more about having fun in this iconic school which closed its doors as a high school five years ago in downtown Peteborough.

Coaches and teachers from the past even manned the benches, making the experience even more surreal for the alumni who gathered for this special day.

Spectators and family in attendance at Raider Dome

Size, speed, age and skill varied—with some NCAA and CIS standouts running the courts—but it didn't matter: This was about bringing back former comrades from close and afar to show that once you’re a Raider, you’re always a Raider.

After its success taking place on Family Day weekend, the plan is to make this an annual event to keep Raider basketball and pride going strong!

HOW WIN THIS SPACE COMPETITION WORKED

After launching the Win This Space competition on October 17th, Win This Space received 41 applications. Eleven judges narrowed it down to 10 finalists on January 19th. The 10 finalists were put through three mandatory workshops on business plans, marketing and financial forecasting. After delivering their business plans and live presentations on February 13th, five finalists—all women—were selected. Out of that Final 5, Tina was chosen as the winner.
