Peterborough Police Auction Goes Online

In order to better serve the community, the Peterborough Police Service’s auction is now being offered online.

“A live auction is weather dependent, necessitates that people attend in person and requires a sufficient number of items to attract many potential buyers in order to have competitive bidding prices,” says Inspector Lynne Buehler, Support Services Division.

“In an online auction, bidders can be anywhere and can place their bid at any time," Inspector Lynne Buehler adds. "An online auction is less labour intensive for our property and evidence staff, will make it easier for people to purchase items and will generate more revenue for the Peterborough Police Services Board auction fund.”

The online auction is being run by Police Auctions Canada. On this site, bidders will find items from 19 different Police Services across Canada and four Universities. The items are not organized by Service but by item.

This year, the Peterborough Police Service has submitted items to Police Auctions Canada, including 93 bicycles, various pieces of jewellery, electronics and high-end designer clothing. All of the revenue from the items submitted by the Service goes back to the Peterborough Police Services Board Auction Fund.

For more information on the online auction, to see what items are available or to place a bid, visit Police Auctions Canada.

Meet The Duck Family Living In The Courtyard At PRHC That Entertains Patients & Visitors

UPDATE (June 14th): Nine of the 11 baby ducks, including their mom, have been relocated. Two babies still remain in the courtyard but will be relocated soon. Mom and her babies were relocated to a nearby pond and have since made their way back up toward the hospital, waiting for baby ducks No. 10 and No. 11 to be taken out to meet them.

ORIGINAL POST

There is a Mama Duck at PRHC again this year, and she’s raising 11 (yes 11!) ducklings inside of the enclosed courtyard at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

No one is quite sure if this is the same mama who has come back year after year or if the courtyard is first come first serve? It’s apparently a preferred destination and they’re well looked after.

The courtyard provides great cover from the elements and potential predators. A beautiful courtyard full of vegetation and lush greenery, it's an awesome spot for the ducklings to play—all the while providing a closer look for patients, visitors and staff at their day to day life as they grow.

PRHC reminds visitors to the courtyard to give the ducks their space and not feed them...

Eventually the family is taken by crate outside to the nearby pond area to continue their lives until they’re able to fly away to wherever it is they eventually go.

Here is the pond area on PRHC grounds where they are taken...

Then, next year, more ducklings will be born and the courtyard will be full of quacking again as life begins anew.

A Deer Made Several Tourist Stops In Downtown Peterborough Today

The Silver Bean Cafe on the Otonabee River often does a Customer Of The Day on their board, and Friday's might be an animal: a deer.

Yes, a deer made a jaunt near the cafe in Millennium Park in downtown Peterborough on Friday morning (May 26th)—right near the MNR building, appropriately enough—and Bean staff member Sam Milliken witnessed it, along with owner Andrea VanDerHerberg and her kids.

"William, Grace, Andrea and I were sneaking up on rabbits nibbling by the train tracks, when all of a sudden we saw a deer running toward us at full speed down the tracks," Milliken tells PTBOCanada. "It crossed through some gardens, ran along the river line until it hopped the fence by the cafe, and I guess having nowhere else to go, it jumped into the river and swam to the nearest island!"

They were all too excited in the moment to get photos of the deer, but did capture this pic below of it swimming to the island (the little dot in the pic is the deer) that they posted to their Facebook page...

So Oh Deer, what a Friday it was at The Bean.

Trent-Severn Waterway To Open for Navigation In Stages Starting Friday, May 26th

The Trent-Severn Waterway 2017 Navigation Season will open in stages starting on Friday, May 26th.

Increased precipitation over the past weekend coupled with forecasted rainfall has created the requirement for additional time to reduce water levels and flows to a point that ensures safe boating conditions across the system.

As of May 26th, locks 28 Burleigh Falls to 42 Couchiching will be open to boat traffic. All other lock stations will be open to land-based visitation but closed to boat traffic.

This staged opening of the Waterway will most importantly protect boater safety, and help to prevent further shoreline erosion and property damage experienced by local residents and businesses. Parks Canada will continue to work diligently to open the entire system for navigation and will open individual lock stations in stages as soon as it safe to do so.

All visitors are encouraged to exercise extra caution now with water flows less predictable and stable than during regular navigation season.

Below is a table listing the stations that will be open for navigation as of Friday, May 26th...

The Glorious Local Connection On Nashville's Run To Stanley Cup Finals

Unless you've been living under a rock lately—and we do know there are some really nice rocks in our area—you'll have heard by now that the Nashville Predators, Captained by Mike Fisher, are on their way to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history.

What you might not know is the other epic local connection to the Predators: WWE NXT Champ Bobby Roode—who lives in Peterborough when he's not on the road—and his Glorious Domination theme song have been rocking the Preds and their fans throughout the playoffs.

The #Glorious movement is legitimately sweeping the social media Nation in all of its gloriousness, and fans are taking notice outside of the pro wrestling world.

Seriously, search #Glorious and #Preds and you'll find just as many hockey references now as you'll find wrestling references, as hockey (and beyond) starts to adopt this great theme song and hashtag of Roode's.

Nashville—aka "Smashville"—has become a hockey hotbed and if you're going to see a game live anywhere, it's pretty much unmatched in terms of atmosphere. Adding in anthem singers like Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Kelly Clarkson bring the crowd to life—and Bobby Roode's theme song keeps the crowd on their feet!

Even more meta-Peterborough, Dan O'Toole did this tweet a couple weeks ago...

If the #Glorious ride continues and the Predators win The Cup, we may know a couple guys who might show up to the parade.
