Jordan Dool got things rolling for Trent, scoring for Trent early in the first quarter. Cole Hanrahan followed with a second goal for the Excalibur. Jack Faller got on the board for Queen’s with 4:23 left in the quarter to cut the deficit in half and the score remained 2-1 going into the second.

At roughly 9 p.m., officers arrived at the apartment and learned that a male had been seen leaving the area. Both victims were taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre where the woman was pronounced deceased and the man was transported to a Toronto-area hospital in critical condition.

Through investigation, CCTV cameras in the area and honourable citizens, a suspect was identified according to Chief Stuart Betts of the Peterborough Police Service.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers received information that the suspect was spotted in a wooded area near Ashburnham Drive and Maria Street.

The Emergency Response Team, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Unit, officers from the Investigative Services Unit and an OPP K9 Unit attended the area. Officers learned that two women known to the suspect had been verbally threatened and one attacked with a hatchet according to Betts. The two women were able to escape and were taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

Officers continued searching the woods and took two people (a male and a female,) were taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 29-year-old Jesse Rowe of Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

  • Second Degree Murder

  • Attempt to Commit Murder

  • Assault with a weapon

  • Utter threats X2

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order X2

“Rowe has a lengthy criminal history with Peterborough Police, dating back more than a decade and is currently before the courts on charges of robbery with a weapon and fail to comply with a prohibition order,” said Chief Stuart Betts. “He's also on a number of prohibition orders in relation to the possession of weapons during violent offences.”

Rowe is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He is also bound by seven prohibition orders with regard to firearms, restricted weapons, ammunition and explosives.

He is being held in custody and will appear in court on Thursday.

The next of kin of the deceased female has been notified and her identity is not being released at the request of the family.

A 30-year-old Peterborough woman found with the suspect was taken into custody on a warrant for a shoplifting incident on Aug. 27.  In connection with the incident in the woods, the woman was further charged with:
