Peterborough has been called The Electric City, perhaps because it was home to General Electric for many years or because it was the first City in Canada to introduce electric streetlights but the moniker is being revisited with the introduction last week of the ARC Motor Company.

The brother and sister team of Sloane Paul and Tom Chep, who grew up in the South end, describe ARC as a green-tech start-up that transforms and upcycles iconic classic cars into modern and powerful electric vehicles. For details visit arcmotors.com.

Former Liberal Party Candidate Greg Dempsey Gives Endorsement For Upcoming Leadership Race

Former 2022 Ontario Liberal Party Peterborough–Kawartha candidate Greg Dempsey has officially endorsed Bonnie Crombie to lead the Ontario Liberals for the province.

Crombie vies to become the Liberal leader for the upcoming provincial election in June of 2026, challenging current Premier Doug Ford (Conservatives).

Crombie currently serves as the Mayor of Mississauga and has been an MP for Mississauga-Streetsville from 2008-11.

“We came close to winning Peterborough–Kawartha last year but just didn't have the leadership we needed,” said Dempsey. “Bonnie’s been elected as an MP, she’s led a city, she’s competent, strong, inclusive. But most importantly, she scares the heck out of Doug Ford. With Bonnie as leader, I believe that we’ll beat Dave Smith, evict Doug Ford from the Premier's office and make our province the caring place it can and should be.”

“I am so grateful to have the support of Greg Dempsey,” said Crombie. “Everywhere I go, I am seeing a spark across the Liberal Party. People are proud to be Liberal again. We are re-energized and ready to win in 2026!”

Liberal leadership election votes are this Saturday. Citizens in the Peterborough—Kawartha riding can vote at the Peterborough Lions Community Centre (347 Burnham St.) from 2 - 7 p.m.

Petes Snap Winning Streak With Dominant Play From the Windsor Spitfires In 5-2 Loss

The visiting Windsor Spitfires leave town with a win over the Petes, snapping the hometown team’s winning streak with a 5-2 loss at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday night.

The Petes still maintain a four-point lead in the East Division with a game in hand to the second-place Brantford Bulldogs. Photo courtesy of Kenneth Andersen and the Peterborough Petes.

Windsor had a one-man show during the first period as Jacob Maillet went coast-to-coast and scored 5:32 into the frame for a 1-0 lead. He was not done as late in the period, Maillet corralled a loose puck off a Konnor Smith hit and backhanded it in for a 2-0 Windsor lead at the end of the first.

Peterborough was able to counter in to kick off the second period, and the Petes could sustain pressure in the offensive zone. They were rewarded with a one-timer goal from Owen Beck to Donovan McCoy, keeping their hot streak going and cutting the deficit to one. Beck made another big play, stick-lifting a Spitfire and turning the puck over. Tommy Purdeller got the loose puck and in transition, passed it to Beck for the one-timer and the game was tied at two.

The Petes were on a power play five minutes later but it became a turning point in favour of the Spitfires. After Windsor cleared the zone with a flip dump, Cole Davis won the race to get the puck in the Petes zone and beat Zack Bowen five-hole for a shorthanded goal and a 3-2 lead after two.

Windsor kept their foot on the gas in the third period as there was nifty movement from Davis and he drop-passed it for Valentin Zhugin, corralling the puck from the backhand. The latter got the puck under control and snapped it past Bowen for a 4-2 lead with under six minutes left in the game. The Petes had a power play with just over two minutes in regulation but the Spitfires deposited an empty-net goal and won 5-2 over Peterborough.

The Petes are getting little rest between games as they are back in action on the road to place the Mississauga Steelheads for 7 p.m. at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Fans can attend the Official Road Game Watch Party at Shoeless Joe’s Peterborough.
